Today over at RotoAuthority, I've got a list of center fielders who could really break out if given the opportunity. Check it out to see why I'm so fond of Jason Michaels and Milton Bradley.

Bradley got 516 at-bats last year and was nothing incredible.
he is a very talented player and is certainly capable of becoming a top 5 CF, but his baggage and injury problems should not be ignored either.
As for Michaels, the guy deserves a starting shot somewhere, but I wouldn't think he'd maintain his numbers over 600 at-bats. More at-bats can open up more holes, and Michaels did get an above average amount of playing time against lefties, which he hit better than righties.

Jason Michaels intrigues me, and at this point, he can be had. Unfortunately, Hendry is otherwise occupied. A contact tells me that Michaels is just a small blip on Hendry's radar screen. I'll talk to a couple of local sources and see if anything has begun to float around regarding Michaels.

As a Phillies fan, Michaels is very underrated. He was an excellent college player at Miami, went through the minors and finally broke in with the Phillies. He is only 28 and is in his prime. If he got 500 at bats, he would hit around .290, 18 HR, 80 RBI, 10 SB. Many teams have asked about him, but its going to take a very good deal to pry him from the Phillies even though he is now their 4th OF.

-Jason Michaels for Carl Pavano
That's what was reported as a possibility for a potential PHI/NYY trade. Howard Eskin didn't report it, so it's credible.

I have to agree with Ty - adding also that he is VERY inexpensive (800K) but eligible for arbitration (still not likely to get more than $1.5M yet).
He's a gamer who gets on base...it would be interesting to see his "clutch" stats that you did for Abreu...
In big Yankee Stadium, he would need a little help from Mastui covering ground but would be a GREAT FIT in Chicago.
We have heard the Pavano for JMike rumors but it would also include Padilla or even Gavin Floyd and the Phils are concerned about Pavano being able to pitch in Philly after struggling in NYC.
Who would Chicago give up? The injury-prone, $10M a year Kerry Wood....otherwise, I am not sure its a fit unless they send propsects we can send somewhere else for Danys Baez or Jesse Crain.

Steve, how about if the Cubs sent over a couple of Mike Wuertz/Jermaine Van Buren types? Doesn't seem like enough, but the Cubs could muster up some decent arms.

The Yanks Searching
Centerfield, our biggest hole,
Lately has, taken it's toll.
Once a strength, but now we're weak.
Desperately, we now seek.
Where is Hunter or Juan Pierre?
The positons empty, no ones there.
Rowlands gone, and so Kotsay.
Giles signed, somewhere else today.
Damon's good ,deep down we know,
But Boras, you know where to go.
Michaels dangled, the Phillies tease us so,
Seattle won't give us, Ichiro.
Maybe they will give us Reed,
But, I doubt that we succeed.
Jeter switch, and Furcal too?
What the Heck, are we to do?
It's turn into ,the escapades.
How about Bradley and his Grenades?
DeJesus, Edmonds or a Vernon trade?
The farm, is where the price is paid.
In a pickle and a bind.
A centerfielder's hard to find.
Questions many, and answers few.
What the heck, are we to do?

That was a bit odd, but entertaining.

Would you prefer the Cubs trade for Juan Pierre or Joey Gaithright?
How about signing Nomar Garciaparra for 2B and trading Todd Walker for outfield help, maybe Milton Bradley? Or would Bradley want to play CF instead of RF? I remember that problem with JD Drew in LA. If the Cubs do trade for Bradley to play CF, who would be the best fit in RF? Mench? Wilkerson? C. Patterson? Someone else?
What about signing Reggie Sanders to platoon with Matt Murton in LF? If Murton proves his worth a contender would want Sanders at the July 31st trade deadline.

The cardinals are not going to trade jim edmonds, not for wang and the yanks young second baseman, who certainly impressed me as a clutch hitter in the playoffs. the cards would love to get him, but there isnt anyone to replace edmonds in center it would be to much of a defensive giveaway. plus edmonds' offensive numbers have gone down and are not about to get any better. his getting older and if i remember correctly clutch hitting was a small problem in the playoffs too. although edmonds can still dazzle in center. the man makes impossible catches spectacularly and makes hard catches look mearly irritating.

Inside sources close to the Phillies team have informed us that the New York Yankees are seriously considering sending Alex Rodriguez and cash to the Philadelphia Phillies for Bobby Abreu, Jason Michaels and Gavin Floyd. This is trade that i really believe would help both teams. Thats why I think it will get done. Please post comments for this potential under-the-radar, blockbuster type deal.
