Milton Bradley For Todd Walker
According to Bruce Levine on ESPN Radio 1000, the Cubs are talking to the Dodgers about swapping Todd Walker for Milton Bradley. Considering the devaluing of Bradley around baseball, the proposed trade sounds plausible.
If the deal were to go through, it's most likely that Walker would play third base for Los Angeles. It's also possible that Jeff Kent moves to first and Walker remains at second base.
Walker has played 60 games at third base in his career, and Kent has spent 105 games playing first.
Thanks to John

Now I know the Cubs are screwed. We just need a couple of good pieces and we are trying to pick up trash....way to go Jim!!! Is it too early to say wait till next year??? Go Cubs in 2007

As a Cub fan, not saying I wouldn't support the Walker for Bradley trade, I would and have stated that LA and Chicago make logical trade partners here. My only beef, such as it is, is that if this rumor is true, I think the Cubs are getting less value than they could. I thought the whole deal was that LA was prepared to GIVE Bradley away? But Walker fits a need for them, that seems like LA should include something in addition to Bradley to make it fair for both teams?
Walker + Geovanny Soto to LA for Bradley and Hee Seop Choi, now that's more like it. Cubs have an extra catcher on the 40-man anyway, and LA could use someone, ANYONE, other than the putrid Gabor P. Bako.

Why would we want Hee Seop Choi????????? We have a MVP-Caliber 1B man in D-Lee. I think that a Walker for Bradley Trade is better for LA, we need more then just Bradley but not Choi!

The Cubs will not be interested in Choi because they have agreed to terms pending a physical with John Mabry. Mabry will back up Lee and will also be the #4 outfielder. Walker would only be traded if the Cubs are sure of getting Furcal. Plus why would the give up Walker for bradley when they can pretty much get him for Macias and Greenberg. Bradleys trade value is about that low.

You want Hee Seop Choi for the bench. The Cubs need a high OBP, power hitter that can come off the bench late in the game and drive in some runs. No more Jose F. Macias' of the world meekly popping up to the SS one run down in the bottom of the 8th.
You need two reserve outfielders, Mabry is one, Choi can play 1B and LF. Plus, Jerry Hairston Jr. can play CF and probably the corners in a pinch. Those three, plus Neifi and Hank White as backup catcher, that's a respectable bench for once.
And everyone loves Hee Seop, I'd love to see him back. I don't think he rates a starting job anywhere else at this point, so if he's bound for a bench job, why not a bench job with the Cubs??

Except Choi's swing has more holes than my 12 year old pair of underwear.
And his offensive prowess last year aside...hank White is not someone you need coming off the bench to hit.
And Neifi blows goats. I have proof.

I like the idea of the cubs going after bradley to play right field, there are still reports of the cubs still trying to get pierre, preston wilson,or 24-year-old Tampa Bay center fielder Joey Gathright to play center. But i can't see them only getting bradley for walker.

Choi has never played left field and i Guarentee he is not coming back to the Cubs. It makes no sense for the cubs to have intrest in him.

Wow, this is one hell of a heated Hee Seop Choi debate. It's true that he's never played anything other than 1B in the bigs.

First post, here goes:
ESPN Radio 1000 reported in their Sportscenter update (about an hour ago) that the Dodgers MAY be interested in Patterson. Thats better. Package Corey Potential and some minor league pitcher for Bradley. They can keep Hee Chop Suey. There is a reason we dumped him - he blows the goats after Neifi is done with them. (Although, I do like Neifi, as a backup. What he does in his spare time is his business...)

Thanks for stopping by, Mark. I have read that the Dodgers were interested in Patterson this summer, as well. I think no matter what the Cubs end up sending for Bradley, they win if they get him. He's simply undervalued and not desired by many teams.

RumorMonger--I'm with you. Despite some of the kids posting in this thread, the central fact remains that Milton Bradley is extremely undervalued because of his past personal problems, and he solves a need for the Cubs that cannot easily be filled elsewhere. Shoot, I'd rate Bradley as the 3rd best CF in the NL right now, that's a pretty good get for Jim Hendry. And in arbitration, Bradley will make at most what, $3.5MM or so? Dirt cheap.

Milton Bradley? What does he have to offer?...Stratego? That game is so 1984.

Thought:
Why trade for Bradley when he will probably be nontendered?
Posted by: hatethedisastros | November 29, 2005 at 10:01 PM
2004 was the best season for both Milton Bradley and Juan Pierre.
Bradley: .267/.362 obp/.786 ops 15 sb's, 123 K's
Pierre: .326/.374 obp/.781 ops 57 sb's
I think the most important statistic for me is that Juan Pierre is a lot more reliable health wise. Milton Bradley career high for games in a season is 141 and next highest is 101...not good

Comment of the day?

I'm not doubting anything about the rumor. I just don't want Hendry to do this trade.

The Brewers should trade Brady Clark &/or Lyle Overbay for Milton Bradley!!!!
Posted by: Mark Jr | November 30, 2005 at 06:57 PM
Ok so we have Hee Suck Choi, Milton Bradley, Patterson, Walker, Pierre
Thier are a few people your forgetting though, What bout Aubrey Huff, and Alex Gonzalez (Florida)
Grant it Gonzalez would be nothing more then trade bait, but if, and i'm hopeing not if Walker goes, Gonzalez wouldn't be such a bad bid to have at second, pending on his capabilities at switching a position.. Just a thought, either way they need a lead off man and another big bat,
I'd worry bout getting Furcal priority number one, and bradley don't have the power to fill any spot where he is needed ..
uh i forgot where i was going with this but oh well
Keep blowing them goats Neifi, if you can hit another grand slam against St. Louis

I can't believe what I'm reading! You Cubs fans think Todd Walker is TOO MUCH for Milton Bradley?! When I heard about this potential trade I was furious! Bradley is far better than Walker, and far more valuable, with or without the crazy. He may be nuts, but he definitely has a passion for the game and puts up the numbers. No way would I trade Bradley straight up for Walker. I don't think he has as low value as you guys think.
Posted by: NumberOneDodgerFan | December 01, 2005 at 05:54 AM
Tough to say what his true value is, but it's normal for each side of a potential trade to think they're giving up too much. I see that a lot. Rarely do both sides go, "Hey, that's completely even."
Posted by: RumorMonger | December 01, 2005 at 09:33 AM
But it's usually that one side thinks they're getting a deal and the other side thinks they're getting screwed. I personally think the Cubs fans are out of their minds to think that Bradley is not worth even Walker! Bradley is a very good defensive outfielder, and is also very good offensively - while only costing around $3-4 million/yr! If the Dodgers make this trade, along with all their other recent messups, I will have lost all faith in this directionless Dodgers organization

The Cubs would be smart to pick up Milton Bradley in this situation. Ronny Cedeno would fill in at second base, and we need an outfielder. Bradley is a solid one who will provide some much needed power as a five or six hitter. I don't want to hear all this about Todd Walker's value because he is expendable here. Bottom line is we need an outfielder, and with as much money as we are giving Furcal Milton Bradley will be very adequate. Good work Jim Hendry!

Also, there is a rumor going around the mill that the Cubs are close to finalizing a 7 player deal that would send Todd Walker, Ronny Cedeno, and 3 minor league pitchers to Texas for Alfonzo Soriano and Todd Mench. If GM Jim Hendry were to pull this off the Cubs would be a sure favorite to win the World Series. Assuming they sign Rafael Furcal it would most likely be considered the best infield of all time in the history of baseball.
