« Julio Lugo Traded To Dodgers | Main | Alfonso Soriano Stays Put »
Reportedly, a Royals TV affiliate in Kansas City is saying that Jeremy Affeldt has gone through the clubhouse to say goodbyes. Word from MLB Radio is that Affeldt was sent to Colorado along with Denny Bautista for Ryan Shealy and Scott Dohmann.
This one's been in the works for a while now, dating back to July 19th.

MLB Radio said he was traded along with minor league pitcher Denny Bautista to Colorado for Ryan Shealy and another, lesser known minor league pitcher.

Trader Dayton makes yet another trade, again with most people feeling we came out on top.

Why wouldn't you say that wood? If you have seen Affeldt pitch, you know that this is a great trade. He could be a great pitcher with his potential, but he just gives up leads way too often. Bautista will probably never go through a season without getting hurt, although if he pitched in relief he could be a nice middle reliever. Shealy is probably overrated, but it is still a great deal for KC.

Bautista and Affeldt are going to get creamed in Coors Field. They're freaking batting tees in pitcher-friendly Kauffman Stadium.

"...he just gives up leads way too often."
Hmm...that's usually not a good sign...

i just think affeldt has a chance to develop into a good pitcher.
shealy is getting older(even though he stilll is young)
he is also a 1B prospect, which the royals have in huber.
Posted by: wood34 | July 31, 2006 at 03:39 PM
Huber is probably now viewed as an OF prospect, as he is playing OF everyday in Omaha. Also, if Butler can play adequate enough RF the DH spot would be open as well, so Shealy and Huber could both play both 1B and DH. The one that might be hurt by the trade is Teahen, because Gordon is coming up as a 3B, and Teahen would have no position.

Awful awful awful awful trade for the rockies.
Affeldt is often injured and also sucks when he gets a chance to pitch. We need a CF. booo crap

This isn't the greatest trade for KC either. They should have moved Sweeney or Doug M. first.

thank you, ozzie

Still, if no one would take Doug M. or Sweeney, you aren't going to not make a trade that you come out on top, just because of a logjam. Sweeney will almost always be hurt, and Doug is hurt right now, and could probably accept a bench role. I think we just signed Doug to a 1 year deal, so let him go at the end of the year, and try to get anything you can for Sweeney either in August (his contract will almost certainly go through waivers) or this offseaon.

Hoping Billy Butler will play an acceptable rightfield is a bit of a stretch. He's pretty horrible defensively (though reports say he has worked very hard to improve this year), and he has a cheese arm, so he profiles as a leftfielder if anything at all besides DH.
I know he's at least a year or two away, but Colorado has a helluva nice switch-hitting CF leadoff prospect down in Asheville in Dexter Fowler.
Affeldt has been long-rumoured as having the "best stuff of any lefty in the major leagues." He's crushed the hearts of not only the Royals but fantasy and Strat-O-Matic owners everywhere, me included. lol We keep hanging on for the promise of that "stuff" to come through.
Now we shall see...
