Chicago Tribune Winter Meetings Whispers
Phil Rogers, Dave van Dyck, and Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune gathered their notes from the meetings today to create a big ole' rumors column. New stuff:
The Giants and Orioles could be the main players for Jacque Jones.
Julio Lugo "seems almost certain to sign with Boston."
Keith Foulke might accept arbitration in Boston.

Unless we're getting Bedard from the Orioles (haha) then I don't see anything that I'd trade jones there for (unless we're getting tejada -- bigger haha)
On The Giants side...I don't want to touch a rotation where the #1 guy was a #5 guy up until last year...
(Lowry and Cain are 2 and 3 on the depth chart and I doubt they would move either of them)
those r some ugly canidates...
anyone know what they could actually be offering?

Maybe this writer's talking out his ass, and simply repeating what everyone already knew: That Lugo wants to play SS? I can dream...
This sucks. Unless Lugo really did accept MUCH less money then Chicago and the Mets offered, this couldn't depress me more. Anything more then 4/$28 and I'm extremely pissed off.

Also Steve Phillips is still pushing the Bonds to Boston thing. Why is this man allowed on television?

Sounds like a great deal for the Cubs. A pretty fair swap for the Pirates but I'm not sure how it works out for the rockies.
All in all however, as proposed 3 way deals go...I think that is a pretty good idea.
Where did you hear that?

Lugo is definately over-rated. If he goes with Boston, low money or fewer than 4 years needs to happen to keep me satisfied. Also, just let Youkilis lead off and quit worrying, the Sox don't run guys anyway.
Foulke? I'd take him back. Hopefully he comes with a reasonable deal. If Boston can sign a few closers-met-with-misfortune they might pull a winner from the pile. Beats bringing in most of the bums they've used since '03.
Drew and Lugo both worry me with the terms they want, but you've always got to plus some holes with free agency. People say this most years, but this is truly a bad year for FA grabs.

God i pray the Sox figure out something other than Lugo. i would rather have that cute ball girl Kelly play short than this guy. last i heard he was looking for 4 years 40 million. save the money for some bullpen help. This guy all but fell apart in La in a playoff hunt he cant handle Boston. if Theo Signs him its his second Renterai in 2 years after he should have just picked up O-cab
Im surprised the Sox offered Foulke arbitration i thought they would have to Lorreta. but i guess Theo may have Learned from his Graffanino mistake last year.
Sox will get something done of this im sure!!
