J.D. Drew - Major Shoulder Damage?
Tony Massarotti of the Boston Herald reported yesterday that J.D. Drew appeared to have a problem with his physical. He indicated that an Ivan Rodriguez-like injury clause would be included. He didn't expect the deal to be killed altogether.
Additionally, Will Carroll chimes in with speculation that Drew's shoulder could be damaged to the level of Scott Rolen in 2005. That year, Rolen slugged just .383 in a lost season.
Whatever the problem, Drew will seek a second medical opinion on Monday.

Oh how right it would be if he fails his physical to the point of them not signing him......F Boras

So we can plan on seeing Wily Mo Pena for about 100 games this season in RF?
Not necessarily a horrible thing considering he could probably hit 50 HR's as an everyday player....while setting the MLB record for K's.

It would be nice if opting out of that contract comes back to bite JD.

wow weird, jd drew is hurt... good thing no one saw this one coming
Posted by: jerseyballer | December 17, 2006 at 12:47 PM
So if drew ends up being screwed, I think zito would be a lock to texas for some insane price (6 years 115 mil) just so boras can try to save some face after what could end up being a diaster of an offseason.
Seriously if this is true JD/Boras are complete idiots. Especially JD, how would you not know if your own shoulder is injured, I mean i figure you'd at least check with a doctor before you decide to throw away 33 million

I really feel that Sox fans are excited about booing Drew. I love it.
Posted by: beauhoopman | December 17, 2006 at 12:52 PM
maybe the sox are trying to get a cheaper deal.

Kill the deal...kill the deal.... Bring back Trot for a year, and go FA next offseason.

At least he has experience in getting things thrown at him from the stands. Although I think the Red Sox fans pack a little heavier arsenal than batteries.
I wonder which would cause more internal bleeding...having Mo Vaughn tossed at you or every single Phil Plantier rookie card in existance.

3rd option: Bill Buckner Bobble Head Dolls.

People always forget that you can't just stretch out stats for the whole season. There is something called fatigue.
Willy Mo won't hit more than 35 HR if he plays the whole season.

Im all for WMP playing the Right field. Even if he does strike out 200 times a season. We red sox fans forget we had a strike out machine with Mark Belhorn patrolling 2nd base. Willy Mo has alot more power upside than Belhorn did..

Every Red Sox fan should read Gordon Ede's new article: http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2006/12/17/wooing_of_pitcher_was_wowing/?page=full

Your right ArodSucksAtLife Bellhorn did strike a lot, however he was able to draw a walk and play league average defense something Wily Mo Pena has yet to prove in the majors.

Why I am not surprised Drew screwed up his physical?
Posted by: ramaboy28 | December 17, 2006 at 03:06 PM
That may be a great thing for the Braves. No doubt the Red Sox will be knockin on the Braves door for Andruw Jones. Would hate to see him go but after the Wells deal Braves fans KNOW he won't be resigned. Maybe if Big John trades him now he will get to play for a manager other than Bobby Cox. Hate it & realize how good he got it in ATL & come back for another discount. I know far fetched but I can dream can't I.

Jone's said he will veto any trade. Jones plays CF, I doubt a move to right would suit him. We would still be short a Rfer as manny and coco cant play out there.
Not to mention Jones will be getting near 20 million a season and the braves are going to demand the farm for him.
Jones to the sox would be a stupid trade.

take this for what its worth, but a freind of mine says barry zito is looking at houses in CT. Maybe leaning towards NY? no proof, so like i said, take it for wah worth, but it could be something

Tyler, is your friend a realtor?
Posted by: NYs Maine Man | December 17, 2006 at 06:53 PM

awwww...did sweetums hurt her widdle shoulder...awww, she has a boo-boo.
That is what she gets for letting the anti-christ convince her to throw away a guaranteed $33M.
JerseyBaller:
Your comment about at least consulting a doc to make sure she was gonna pass a physical was priceless!! But we Dodger fans watched her not play for two years and we so happy when her princess behind opt'd out! Personally I suspect Colletti did too.

Andruw said he would veto any deal. Players say that all the time. It doesn't hold water to me. And if he was to go to Boston more than likely it would involve CoCo since the Braves seem to be high on him. They tried to get him from Cleveland before he went to the Red Sox. I don't know its a thought. I do know there is alotta holes the Braves need to fill and don't have the money to do it. Somewhere along the line another deal has gotta get done. I feel safe at 2B if we get a lead off hitter for LF. Just doesn't seem like there is a good one available. I know there was talk of LaRoche to the Angels. But I want to see more than Figgins. I thought Podsedniak would have been a nice fit but he resigned. I would deff. like Roberts but like I said we need more than that for LaRoche. Would really like Baldelli but don't wanna see James leave. Big John got some holes to fill and I know he will come through.
