Reds Sign Bronson Arroyo Through 2010
According to Baseball Digest Daily, the Reds and Bronson Arroyo have agreed to a two-year contract extension through 2010 with a club option for 2011. RotoWorld has the financial details.
Arroyo will make $3.8MM in 2007 and $3.95MM in 2008 under a deal signed with Boston before he was traded. PECOTA says Arroyo will be worth about $15.5MM for 2009-10. BP's system finds him most comparable to Jack McDowell, minus the middle finger thing. I wonder if PECOTA matched up the fact that they've both put CDs out.

Boston.com reports it as a "$25 million, two-year contract extension through 2010.
Arroyo's previous contract contains $8,075,000 in remaining guaranteed salary: $4,125,000 this year and $3.95 million in 2008.
His extension calls for a $2.5 million signing bonus, payable in 2008, and salaries of $9.5 million in 2009 and $11 million in 2010.
Cincinnati has an $11 million option for 2011 with a $2 million buyout. The price of the option can escalate to $13 million, based on innings.
As part of the extension, Arroyo agreed to eliminate a clause that could have increased his 2008 salary by $325,000 if he pitched 210 innings this year, and $325,000 in possible performance bonuses in 2008."

So much for his plan to get better and rejoin the Red Sox.

That'd be cool because I like Arroyo as a guy and an innings eater, but keep in mind that he'd be mediocre in the AL East. Now that NL teams have seen him for an entire season, expect his stats to go down in 2007 too.
But he rocks out, man.

No way he hits 240 innings again next year but we'll see. He had a fine season last year and him taking forever to get that 10th win in the second half was partly lack of run support(was killing my fantasy team! haha).

I still say the NL Central is up for grabs. (Cards, Cubs, Brewers, Astros) However, I see the Reds as a 4th place team this season.

good job by the reds to lock up the only pitching they've had in the past decade. Arroyo is gonna need to go 240 to keep that bullpen in the pen. a good step, but definitely won't be contending next year. Arroyo, Harang, Bailey is a good base for the franchise.
if Bailey turns out to be a true #1, then the Reds could compete the next couple years. all you need is three or four starters in the playoffs, they just gotta get there first

Thats what every one said last year and the Reds were in it for first until the last 2 or 3 games and leading it most of the time too.

It sounds like you are saying that the Reds were leading the division most of the time last year. Of course it was hard to decipher your post.
The last time the Reds led the division was June 10th, when they had a 0.5 game lead for one day. Other than that, they led as late as May 10th.
They pulled even on July 1st, although the Cards had played 2 less games at that point and held a .001 pct. advantage. Exact same thing again on August 24th.
After the Cards started that god-awful slide on September 19th when they were 80-69, they still never relinquished the lead.
So anyway, I can barely understand your post, not for lack of trying, but that's what happened last year.

Fantastic. I love the Reds Starting Pitching. If only they could get a legit closer this team would rock for pitcing over the rest of the Central.
The thing I wonder about this year is what will Eric Milton do. It is his free agency year coming up so he better perform or he is not going to get anything in the free agent market. He did improve over his horrible 2005 season last year but 8 - 8 is not anything to write home about. The 2008 top 3 in the rotation are very very impressive in my book. I love that the Reds have control over Harrang and Arroyo now until 2011 is over. Krivsky nice job man nice job....
Next Season's offseason goals get the outfield set and find a closer and Cincy is ready to roll.

You are assuming a static version of the Central. Krivsky is too stupid to deal with the rest of the league. Brewster's Millions in Chicago, the Crew improving, Jocketty and St. Louis, and for all their faults Houston usually competes. It's cellar time with the Bucs.
I'm half kidding, but it's funny when a team allocates a third of their payroll to Bronson Arroyo and Aaron Harang.
I'll have what Wayne's having.

Maybe that was still overly harsh, but I can't wait until they dump Dunn for some middle relievers. Seriously, can't wait.

I think Bill Bray can probably close for Cinci, judging on the handful of times ive seen him throw, and a lot of scouts said he has closers potential, atleast according to some broadcasters

Are you making fun of Chan Ho Park by saying nobody cares? Interesting, I think the Cards just signed some dude named Kip Wells. Im not sure you are in position to be poking fun at Chan Ho. If that isnt how you meant it then I misunderstood you and apologize.

It's a joke, max. Notice I was actually digging up articles. Notice, I didn't say "no one cares about the Mets signing Chan Ho Park, not like people care about Kip Wells signing with the Cards."
On of these things has nothing to do with the other. Once again, jooooookkkeee.
Obviously, there are people that care about the Mets.
I'll poke fun at Chan Ho Park whenever I damn well please, the dude's been shitty since 2001.

If your going to allocate 1/3 of your payroll for something, at least its almost 500 innings of good pitching. Don't forget if Bronson faces Glendon Rusch all year he will have 75 hrs to go along with his pitching stats.
Anyone know if Glendon Rusch is going to play this year???
Posted by: ArodSucksAtLife | February 09, 2007 at 03:38 PM
No Rusch is still recovering form that Blood clot in his chest i think
