« Teams Inquiring About Zambrano | Main | A's Acquire Ryan Langerhans »
Kosume Fukudome is a 30 year-old outfielder currently playing for the Chunichi Dragons. Mike Plugh praises his doubles power and has described him as an on-base machine with a rifle arm on defense. He may compare to Hideki Matsui in some ways. Should Fukudome come over to the Majors after this season, it won't involve the posting process. He'll be a free agent.
According to injury guru and occasional rumormonger Will Carroll (subscription required), the Red Sox already have their eye on Fukudome. Carroll doesn't expect the Sox to acquire a long-term outfielder like Rocco Baldelli this summer because of their interest in Fukudome.
I will have to find out if Fukudome could play a credible center field or return to third base. Otherwise, such a signing would only seem to make sense for Boston if they moved Manny Ramirez. They don't seem likely to try J.D. Drew as the regular CF.

1. How much do you think Fukodome will get?
2. Do you think he is an option for the Braves to replace some of the offense from Andruw.

I haven't heard anything about a Red Sox interest in Fukudome, but if they were it has to be for a 3b replacing Lowell. We're getting a congested outfield and adding Fukudome to the Coco/WMP/Ellsbury/Murphy mix would be silly.

4 years, $45MM or so? Wild guess.

Fukudome doesn't compare to Hideki Matsui at all in any facet of the game. Fukudome is a plus defender and more of a Todd Helton type of hitter. Matsui was a power hitter in Japan and is far from a gold glove cailbur defender. If I were to guess what it'd take to sign him, it'd probably take a 3-year deal which granted free agency at the end of it probably worth $15-18M plus incentives.

What happened to my post about the pronunciation of his last name? Deleted because of the use of the F word? or did it not correctly post - although I could swear it was there at one time

It's Foo-Koo-Do-Me. Like every other Japanese pronunciation of its type. Its hideki Mat-soo-e not Mat-Suck-e. I guess a stupid question gets a stupid response.
