Welcoming Two More Writers

I just added John Peterson to help with the Mets coverage - you can read his first post here.  I would also like to welcome two additional writers to the team.

Dan LaToraca is an English major at the University of Scranton, writes for the school newspaper, and follows the Yankees religiously.  He's often seen in the press box at Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees games (Triple A).  Dan already has a Phil Hughes interview to his credit (did you know Phil likes to listen to AFI and Rise Against?)  Dan will write about the big club and the Triple A team.  Maybe he'll get to talk to Kei Igawa in Scranton in a few weeks (kidding).

Nik Kolidas is a recording artist from NYC and a die hard Mets fan since the late 70’s.  He’s written political editorials for NY Newsday, been a guest blogger on many daily Mets boards and never misses a game.  He has a vast knowledge of Mets history ranging from Roger Craig through Billy Wagner.  His Mets claim to fame is standing by the third base dugout in Shea on October 25, 1986 as Mookie Wilson hit the dirt.  Nik and John will work together to cover the Mets.

"did you know Phil likes to listen to AFI and Rise Against?"

I did, did you know he's a Red Sox fan?

"His Mets claim to fame is standing by the third base dugout in Shea on October 25, 1986 as Mookie Wilson hit the dirt."

I hope something horrible happens to you.....j/k.

I'm a die hard Yankee fan and I really think Steinbrenner needs to fire Joe Torre if he wants to win another championship. He's a great communicator with his team but doesn't utilize his pitchers properly. He doesn't allow his starters to go deeper than 6 innings and he just overuses his bullpen on a daily basis.

So wait, is there 2 Mets writers now? If i read that right, thats completely unneeded. How many stories are there to go around?

Not to sound like I'm complaining or my opinion matters all that much, but i think its really dumb that we are going to start getting reports about the Yanks AAA team. If i was looking to hear about prospects I wouldn't go to a site about "trade rumors." Does this mean we are going to be hearing about every teams prospects?

It is not my place to complain, I know a lot of people are digging the new format and the direction you are going, but I don't. Sorry Tim, but I feel like more and more stories that have nothing to do with "trade rumors" are taking over this site. Oh well, i still love Roto Authority.

I really don't see non-trade rumor stories taking over the site...that is definitely an exaggeration. Aside from an Ichiro quote I can't see anything out of my normal subject matter on the front page.

I do think the biggest teams can have two writers covering. It doesn't mean we are going to post about David Wright's new girlfriend.

I took down Dan's first post, the Triple A related one. We have to work out some formatting issues but also get on the same page regarding what kind of content we're looking for (my fault, not Dan's).

Yes, I was exaggerating. But i'm just looking at the recent posts next to me and i see "Ichiro On Matsuzaka" "The Benitez/Julio/Burgos Connection" "Lets Make A Deal: Jose Castillo" and "Yankees Starting Pitching Looking Ugly"

The first one has no relevance. I really don't get the relevance of the second one. The third one has no real trade material, all it does is outline a AAAA player and that he wants to play. Finally, the fourth one has no trade or even signing information. The closest it comes to a trade rumor is "the Yankees may need to be rescued by Roger Clemens and Phil Hughes." one being a prospect one being a free agent. And it doesn't really talk about there is something in the works it just talks about need. Well, i think everyday we could have an article about what teams need. I don't know, maybe i'm just jaded because i hate change.

The Ichiro quote is just something I found funny, and I'm liable to post anything I think is funny. It will happen again.

I really liked the second one, and hadn't considered that angle before. I think it generated discussion and was about trading, what do you come here for if you don't like that?

The third one is talking about Castillo's availablity and whether there could be a market for a guy who'd love a trade.

The Yankee thing was just an opinion piece by me. If you don't want to read about the Yankee rotation, why not just read the headline and move on?

Would you rather I just eliminated all of those articles, and posted only a Jose Capellan trade rumor that day because that's all there was? How is that progress?

I just want to say congrats to Dan. I don't know him personally, but I live in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area and frequent the U of Scranton's library to do work for my school Wilkes University in W-B. I look forward to reading the creations of someone from my local area.

To be honest, yes that is what I would rather. I know i am in the minority and i enjoy your writing very much. What I am saying, and its your site you can do whatever you choose with it, is all of the new writers and the increase in opinion pieces are diluting the content. I don't need to hear every shake and move the Phillies and the Mets are thinking about. I would much rather hear 1 relatively big thing than 6 made up/completely speculative rumors (if they are even rumors). This is just one long time readers opinion, i'm sure the vast majority is on your side.

But...the third Jose Capellan trade rumor this week is not one relatively big thing. You are basically preferring zero content to content that doesn't fit within a very specific box. Reader surveys indicated pretty much the opposite.

That is exactly what I am saying. I have never came here for witty opinion pieces. I come for real trade rumors and the discussions that follow in the comments. Thats what I enjoy most about this site. As I have said many time, I am not saying I speak for the people. I understand I am in the minority. This site is not built for what I enjoy.

I understand that you are expanding and most people want that, more power to you. I am just expressing my dislike for it. I am just one person
