Zambrano Talks Cool Down, But Not Over

One person near the negotiations between Carlos Zambrano and the Cubs for a contract extension said that both sides have agreed to let things "cool down".

But that's not to say the possibility of a deal has been greatly reduced.  Zambrano and his agent have decided to extend the deadline for completion of the deal "indefinitely".  Originally, the Zambrano camp had placed a deadline at Opening Day, but has since backed off of that given the news that the Cubs parent company, the Tribune Co., will be sold and that the buyer will then sell the Cubs in the offseason.

Both the Cubs, Zambrano and his handlers are saying that they think a deal can still be worked out despite this turn of events.

I think this means that the deal has been agreeded to (by Hendry and Zambrano's agents) but it is awaiting approval. It will probably be a couple of weeks before the dust clears on the Trib sale...

I'm sorry, I know that now is a slow time for actual trade rumors and the like.

But I think I'd rather the site started publishing weather forecasts than see another "Carlos Zambrano still not quite re-signed" thread.

I get it. General Franco is still dead.

I know what you mean "jakec", but by the same token, if we didn't publish something about it, we would get comments/emails asking about it. Everyone's interests are different.

are you going to let tim post anything?

are you going to let tim post anything?

This is the biggest news right now in baseball right now as far as a trade or signing....

If you don't want the biggest news posted...don't read the thread.

I was out of town for the past couple of days and Tom was filling in.

I think Tom did a damn fine job - I even enjoy his blog although not a Phillies fan ( although prefer them to the Mets )

Thanks TouchMM... Despite being a Mets fan, you have good taste.

Whoa whoa whoa there Tom - I am a native new yorker who hates all the ny teams - all sports across the board. I am a cubbie thru and thru since the days of the greatest RF ever to don cleats - Big Keith Moreland ;o). Most of my teams rarely win but enjoy it none the less

Oh, right, I read you wrong the first time. Good, even greater respect for your tastes in that case.

How's that Phillies bullpen workin' out for ya, Balls? :)

beeniez - The city is thinking of mandating that the Phillies go over some basic fire safety tips on the scoreboard beginning in the eighth inning.
