A's Acquire Jack Cust

The A's have been busy lately with minor moves; today they picked up stathead favorite Jack Cust.  DH is the easiest position to fill, which is why Bill Bavasi's Jose Vidro acquisition was so baffling.  Why pay your DH anything if Cust is freely available?

Cust returns to the A's; he played for their Triple A club in '05.  He's a walk machine - he actually drew 143 of 'em last year.  They call him a Quad-A player, but he's never really gotten a shot.  Why can't he become Kevin Youkilis for the league minimum?  Cust has absolutely destroyed the ball in the minors so far this year.  He can definitely help the A's at DH while they're short-staffed.

HAH! Wilhelm must've blown his load after getting 2 of his dream guys, it's like Christmas for him...it's like any other guy getting with 2 Victoria's Secret models on back-to-back days!!!

With the A's facing Casey Fossum tomorrow night, I bet Cust has a nice debut.

Why can't he become Kevin Youkilis? Because Kevin Youkilis actually makes contact.

Let's make a pact - use some rationality when talking up 26+ year old guys with huge strikeout totals and I will put away the list of flops that fit that list to a tee. A list that includes Cust and a guy I keep having to dig up, Mr. Jason Dubois. Let us instead talk about why Mr. Graham Koonce, another guy who raked at the same age, never got a real shot when he was at his minor league peak. Also, let us kick the prospect-raters while they are down over Dallas MacPherson, a guy who, once again, they failed to pay attention to strikeouts.

Even when the strikeouts are not huge it's good to be skeptical of the older 1b/DH types. Last year this blog was afire with Ryan Shealy rumors, I still don't see him doing anything.

The A's injury list is commical. Is anyone still wondering why this A's fan picked the Angels to win the AL West this year? I knew they were counting on too many injury prone players.

We're not sellin' jeans here.
