Rosenthal's Latest Video
Ken Rosenthal has a new video up at FOXSports.com for your viewing pleasure. My summary:
- As you know, Eric Gagne and Akinori Otsuka are drawing strong interest across baseball. The only team named by Rosenthal is the Yankees, and in a roundabout way. He simply said that the Rangers have been scouting the Yanks.
- Both the Dodgers and Angels would love to add a power-hitting third baseman. The problem is, there's not much about there. Rosenthal says Troy Glaus, Mike Lowell, and Miguel Cabrera are all currently unavailable. One who might become available and could play third is Miguel Tejada. My own speculation on some possible second-tier trade candidates at third base (some long shots included): Jose Bautista, Mark Reynolds, Chad Tracy, Ty Wigginton, Melvin Mora, and Wilson Betemit.
- Michael Barrett could be on his way out of Chicago, mostly because of his defense. Rosenthal names the Marlins and Rockies as interested parties.

If the Greg Maddux trade is any indication, Barrett will be traded to the Marlins for Mike Mordecai. Yeah, Mordecai has been retired for years, but that won't stop Jim Hendry.
But it's not a Chicago Cubs season until someone is traded at the absolute pit of their value.

why would the Marlins, or even the Rockies for that matter want to trade for a rental catcher? Oliva is not a huge drop off from Barrett with the stick outside of Oliva having 64 walks in 1500 career at bats. Barrett doesn't make the league minimum, the Marlins should use thier piggy bank money for a CF if they think they will be in a playoff race or something.

spieldogg, I think they are talking about Barrett and next year, he will stay this year with the Cubs.

I don't see the DBacks looking to trade either Chad Tracy or Mark Reynolds right now. We're a game out of first, both are performing well and neither would bring substantial enough returns to improve this year's team.
Offseason, who knows, but they aren't going anywhere now.

Jim Hendry is the master of the buy high/sell low tactic.

Come on Roto, this IS the same guy that got the Cubs Aramis Ramirez and Kenny Lofton for Bobby Hill et al. He also got us D-Lee for Pork Chop Choi. That's roughly 50% of our offense for garbage. Hendry's not THAT bad. He's had some terrible deals, but he's had some steals, too.

i think tim purpura decided to start collaborating with him. ship the farm to colorado for jennings and put him on the block with a bad elbow and no wins so far this year. yay for mediocrity

I know, overall he has a fine trading record.

He just sucks at dumping veterans and often signs free agents coming off career years.
