Angels Out On Teixeira?

According to Mike DiGiovanna and Ben Bolch of the L.A. Times, the Angels are done trying to acquire Mark TeixeiraCasey Kotchman and Joe Saunders were agreed upon.  The Angels wanted the Rangers to settle on Terry Evans or Nathan Haynes as the third player.  The Rangers, however, wanted one of Brandon Wood, Nick Adenhart, Howie Kendrick, and Ervin Santana.

Perhaps there is some middle ground, like a Hank Conger, Sean Rodriguez, or Erick Aybar?  The L.A. Times says the door is not completely closed on Teixeira but the Angels won't relent to Jon Daniels' list.

Meanwhile, the L.A. Daily News sings a different tune.  Doug Padilla suggests an offer of Kotchman, Adenhart, and Reggie Willits.  He does not believe the talks to be dead.

Jermaine Dye or Mike Piazza look like the logical alternatives for the Angels.  Buster Olney believes Piazza to be a fine idea, and I agree.  Interestingly, the Angels kicked the tires of Miguel Cabrera but were rebuffed.

Teixeira may now be left to the Braves, Dodgers, and Red Sox.  I still expect a deal to be made.  The sticking point for an Atlanta appears to be John Schuerholz's demand to get a solid reliever back with Teixeira if he is to include Elvis Andrus.

Here is hoping that maybe if the angels have backed off, then the braves might be able to give up less value, or at least get a good reliever in return along with TEX.

That Angels offer is pretty good.. I have to say..

If the price gets cheaper bravesbeast, more teams will get in on it, Angels will come back, probably might get the Red Sox involved, maybe even LAD again.

Thus, i believe that we can get wilson or gagne in the deal much more than I believe the price will go down

I hope the Atlanta/Texas deal goes through. As a Nats fan I obviously don't care about what happens this year or next. In 2009, however, it will be good to know that the Braves minor league cupboard will be bare and the players they receive in this trade will have moved on.

I'm sure he wants to reem a divisional rival even more because it hurts a divisional rival. He's asking too much, but I would take the Braves package.

that was a pretty decent offer from the angels. i doubt you could get gagne in the deal, and probably not wilson either. more likely mahay or benoit if it's anybody, even with the angels pulling out of it

Texas is nuts for asking that much. Teixeira is a very good player but he is not a franchise type player.

umm, a first baseman who has won a gold glove and has averaged a .284, 35 HR, 113 RBI line through over the past three years is very much a franchise player

i thought adenhart and kotchman would have been sufficient, let alone adding saunders. that trade demand may be a little excessive by daniels...now he went from not demanding enough to demanding too much. why can't he just find a happy median?

bravesbeast I disagree. Take him out of that bandbox and let's see how well he hits.

Teixeira's career numbers on the road given 600 ABs:

85 R, 31 HR, 94 RBI, .265 AVG, .849 OPS

As I said, very good player but not franchise type.

Over the past two years, 06 and 07, TEx has hit 29 homers on the road and has around a .950 OPS, while he has hit 17 homers at home with around an .860 OPS. Those are the two stats that would be most affected by playing in a bandbox, yet he has better power numbers on the road. So you are wrong, TEX is still a franchise type player no matter where he plays. Give me a Break.

You can slice and dice the numbers all you want but his road splits don't scream franchise player. Sorry.

we are talking about putting a good hitter in a good lineup. he will produce even more because of the run scoring opportunities. remember, there is a lot of stat padding in Texas. They dont play meaningful baseball after May these days.
