Latest Mets Rumors: Luis Castillo, Chad Cordero

Let's have a look at the latest rumors swirling around the Mets.

• Second base remains an area of focus.  A Twins scout was at Shea recently, presumably trying to figure out what to ask for from the Mets for Luis Castillo.  The Mets were recently scouting the Twins as well.  The problem is that Castillo is not yet officially available.  A couple of Marks, Grudzielanek and Loretta, remain on the radar.  The Astros might consider signing Loretta to an extension, though no details have been discussed.
• The Devil Rays hosted the Red Sox last night, and a Mets scout was on hand.  Speculation on my part, but possible targets include Ty Wigginton, Jonny Gomes, Edwin Jackson, Al Reyes, and Casey Fossum.  The Mets had some interest in Jackson way back in November.
• According to Dan Graziano, the Mets are still pushing for Chad Cordero or Jon Rauch.  Graziano is skeptical that the Nationals can arrive at a trade.  Matthew Cerrone believes the Mets might give up Mike Pelfrey to get Cordero.
• Will Carroll has some other relievers the Mets are considering: Matt Thornton, Chad Bradford, and Shawn Chacon.
• The Mets had a scout in attendance yesterday to watch Jon Garland.  He gave up ten hits but only three runs in 7.1 innings to the Blue Jays.

Thanks for that link Kramerica, it looks like the braves are being smart, as if they are going to give up all their young talent and trading chips, they will get the players to feel more than one need

Depending on what Castillo would cost, I wouldnt mind, but I would much rather have Loretta or Grudz or Wiggy, I really am not a castillo fan. Coredero would probably cost us Milledge, and no thanks to that. I would rather just go after Paul Shuey or Al Reyes or somebody less valuable.

I really want Edwin Jackson I think he can be this years by low guy with a huge upside like Perez last year. I also would like Castillo he isn't as fast anymore but would be the PERFECT number 2 hitter that we haven't had this season. He would also bolster our bench by allowing Gotay to go to the bench and be a lefty hitter with pop off the bench. Both guys shouldn't cost us top prospects and help us a lot.

also Reyes and Castillo is a sick double play combo and he is the type of 2nd baseman Willie loves.

I would do that but I don't think the D-Rays would.. I mean Humber hasn't pitched great like Jackson and I think Jackson has greater upside

Well Wiggington is traded to the stros so i guess it doesnt matter.

yea but now that makes Loretta available so hopefully the Mets could pick up Loretta and Jackson which I would prefer.
