Mark Teixeira Trade Update
The Mark Teixeira talks are really heating up, with the Braves, Dodgers, Angels, Yankees, and Red Sox all involved. Ken Rosenthal has updated this column, and Evan Grant has new info as well.
The Braves still appear to be in front. The names going to Texas would include Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Elvis Andrus, and one of Matt Harrison or Kyle Davies. A very nice package, but to get three solid prospects the Rangers would have to pair Teixeira with a reliever. The Braves have their eye on Eric Gagne, C.J. Wilson, and Ron Mahay, with the latter most likely. It's unclear whether Gagne can be traded to the Braves without his consent.
The Dodgers counter with James Loney, Andre Ethier, and a pitcher not named Clayton Kershaw.
The Angels will give Casey Kotchman as well an outfielder like Terry Evans or Nate Haynes. Kevin Goldstein considers Evans a prospect, Haynes not so much (he turns 27 soon). You may remember the Angels got Evans for Jeff Weaver last year. Rosenthal thinks the Halos will have a tougher time being a division foe, and could turn to Adam Dunn or Jermaine Dye. There's definitely a Dodgers rivalry element in play as well.
Grant does not mention the Red Sox or Yankees. Rosenthal sees the Red Sox involved because of David Ortiz's knee and Kevin Youkilis's slump. The Yanks appear to be showing just their obligatory interest, as they seem unlikely to offer the best package.

I just still think the braves are giving up too much.

One day there will be an update about Teixeira that involves an actual trade...or the season will be over. Can't wait for either.

PeteRose - I am thinking of starting a blog called "MLBTrades". I am going to copy the transaction page from MLB.com. Will you come visit?

Dude that website sounds sweet.

Obligatory Yankee interest. Classic. Makes me think of that rich, fat guy from the film the Red Violin who's bidding on the violin just to add it to his collection. Bit of a stretch for a baseball trade rumor site?
Posted by: johnflaherty | July 25, 2007 at 07:48 PM
I was inclined to think people interested in MLB trade rumors would be the type to visit a site called mlbtraderumors.com >_>
See, the weather man isn't always right. In fact, it isn't even his job to be right. He just tells people what so called "experts" expect to happen and look pretty. This is just like that except we don't have to look at Tim :)

Maybe the Braves are giving up a little too much, but if we can win another ring it will all be worth it.

Not as sweet as yours, Tim.

oh god i think its about time Davies packed his bags and got the hell out of Atlanta the Braves FO any reason to keep him and we can get him away and get Teixeira despite sacrificing Salty i think it would be worth it if we got a reliever too. id rather give up Yunel instead of Elvis though.
Posted by: bravesrule14 | July 25, 2007 at 08:12 PM
Me too. No giving up Elvis!

Salty, Elvis and Davies for Tex and Wilson sounds about right, but the other variants are all wrong. I don't think the Braves upgrade from Davies to Harrison for a Gagne rental and I doubt the consider a 36-year-old, left-handed as he might be, a worthy part of this sort of deal.
Any chance the Braves go with Andrus, Harrison and B. Jones for Tex (and maybe Mahay) so that they could still send Salty and change to Pitt for Snell? Those deals (even just the rumored Tex trades) rob us of a lot of young talent, but we'd be getting plenty in return in this second scenario. Thoughts?

You sly fox, are you trying to say something?
Well, wait.
before you start thinking.
again.
I want you to know, for your own personal comfort, that I was merely stating my displeasure at seeing yet another rumor about Teixeira. I don't dislike rumors ...in fact I actually like rumors, all kinds...that's why I come....I'm just tired of this particular rumor.
and no I probably wouldn't visit your site...I don't like your atty-tood.

Andrus, Harrison and Bjones for Tex AND a reliever?
how does that match up with say Loney, Ethier and a pitcing prospect?
That is a serious junk offer right there.

I agree up to a point. It depends on what RP we get back. IMO a package of Salty + Davies + Thorman for Tex + Wilson would be perfect for both sides. A stud C, a promising but struggling SP, and a power-hitting 1B/OF would be fair compensation for a top ten 1B that will be a FA after 2008 and a lefty RP. I realize this is probably unrealistic, but I'm just throwing it out there.

If the Rangers could get Loney, Etheir and a pitcher or the Braves package they'd be stupid to not be all over it. I somehow doubt they'd get that much, that's ridiculous.
Posted by: Guitar Hero | July 25, 2007 at 08:54 PM
that would fill a lot of holes for them, and they'd save some money. i don't see why the dodgers won't just leave loney at first? he's playing as well as anyone r/n

I trust Schuerholz isn't dumb enough to trade away the future for what is basically a year-long rental. Atlanta needs pitching. Even with Gagne, this deal stinks.

I heard a rumor that Pete Rose isn't going to get into the Hall of Fame any time soon.

Please, for the love of dog, can people refrain from quoting anything Evan Grant writes about trade rumors? The guy has been making up stuff for two months now, as a sort of wish list for the Rangers. He names Loney and Kershaw and (throw in another top prospect here) even if it makes absolutely no sense for the Dodgers. Even as rumor milling goes, Grant's not one to take seriously.
And as I said earlier, if the Dodgers are trading for anything, it's pitching.

Any Dodger pitching prospect? ANNNNNNNNY Dodger pitching prospect? Okay, give me Scott Elbert. I don't care if he's out for the year. Thanks for the ripoff of the century.
Signed,
Jon Daniels

I agree. A big screw you to Colletti if he even considers this trade. Craig Phillips is right. Grant has been man crushing on Loney and Kershaw for two months now. I don't take anything he has to say seriously. Makes zero sense. Sure the offense could use an upgrade, but not at 1st.

Hey GoBoSox420,
I'd be willing to wager a fair ammount of money that you had/have no idea who that RP I mentioned in my proposal even was before this post came up AND it was convenient to ignore the fact that I added "and maybe Mahay".
Bottomline is this, Elvis Andrus is a top 100 prospect at a premium position and he's not yet 18. Harrison was also one before the season and he's done nothing but dominate at AA this year. Brandon Jones was recently promoted to AAA after tearing stuff up at the lower levels. Just because you don't recognize the names and don't know much about them doesn't mean they're not worth something.
Oh, and there's no way the Dodgers deal Loney and TWO other good-to-very-good prospects for Tex. Really, there's no reason why they should make this deal and I believe they're just making it tougher on the Braves.

This is another article by mark bowman, and the only real news is that major league scouts believe that elvis andrus may not go, but instead Brent Lillibridge would be the other position player to go to texas.
Even though texas does have young and kinsler, Bowman says that the rangers, as we all know, have been looking for a speedy centerfielder/lead-off guy, and think lillibridge could be an option. I would much rather give up lillibridge than andrus, and still hope there is some way we could give up davies instead of harrison.

Dodgers need starting pitching......Tex over Loney will not make a diff. It would be lights out for Colletti if he does this. It's should be a RSox/Marlin/Dodger deal to expect
