Murton, Payton Not Starting Today
The Cubs are again sitting Matt Murton today. That's two days in a row he was expected to start and didn't. Of course, it may just be that Lou Piniella doesn't like him. We'll see.
Meanwhile, Jay Payton is out of the lineup for the Orioles-Yankees game today. He typically starts in left field, but it's Jay Gibbons today. This could also just be Dave Trembley's preference and nothing more. He sat Payton in favor of Gibbons on Thursday as well. Gibbons is 6 for 18 lifetime against Chien-Ming Wang while Payton is 1 for 6.
Discussions regarding a Payton-to-Chicago deal were getting pretty serious last night.
I think Payton would be a nice fit in Chicago. I'd love to see it happen.

It may be Cubs bias, but wouldn't Murton be too much to give up for Payton?
Maybe Jones or a few Low-level prospects, though.

murton was another scratch because lou wanted to get fontenot in at second base but didnt want to let derosa sit out. so derosa is playing rf instead of murton. this is according to wgn tv. it still could signal something in the works... who knows?

changing the subject, Luis Castillo also is sitting today and it seems that FSN North doesnt know the reason. Nick Punto is subbing for Castillo at second base. Could a trade be in the works?

Castillo to the Mets.... eh. Not thrilled, not depressed. I don't see it as a significant upgrade over a Gotay/Easley platoon, so if he is headed East, we better not have given anything too valuable.... maybe Carp or Evans?
