White Sox A Match For Orlando Hudson

Speculating has been going strong for quite a while now that the White Sox have interest in Diamondbacks second baseman Orlando HudsonAs Yahoo's Tim Brown explains, Josh Byrnes and Kenny Williams talk often and Byrnes could use a starting pitcher.

As I mentioned earlier, the D'Backs have cheap options at second base if they're willing to sacrifice some defense.  Or the Sox could just include Tadahito Iguchi in the deal.  The White Sox would basically be acquiring Hudson for 2008.  He would certainly fit the bill of Major League talent Williams desires, and he'd strengthen the team defensively.  Byrnes could go after Mark Buehrle or Jose Contreras, or even re-acquire Javier Vazquez.  I think an additional prospect aside from Hudson would be required for Buehrle or Vazquez.  Maybe Dustin Nippert.

Well since the Sox will probably be lucky to play .500 ball up till 2009 or even 2010, then I'm not sure I understand the thought process behind bringing O-Dawg in now. Sure, he’s a nice player and could do great on the South Side, but it doesn’t make any sense if you could get highlevel prospects instead and just sign Hudson off the FA market in 09 if you even want him at that point.

But Williams has done a great job of managing to slip farther and farther away from first every year with his “I’m gonna compete” mentality, so let him do as he pleases I guess…

I believe Vazquez has a limited no trade clause and he's mentioned before that he absolutely does not want to go back to Arizona. I wouldn't mind Hudson at all, hell, keep Iguchi and out put Hudson at SS. Uribe needs to go.

darkstar...While Kenny Williams hasn't assembled an annual contender, I find it hard to fault the moves for which he's been vilified. Dealing off Freddy Garcia has proven to be a very wise move, from an on-field and financial standpoint. He fleeced the Rangers in the McCarthy deal. About the only blemish that comes to mind on his trade record is underestimating the upside on Chris Young.

Sure, the White Sox have stumbled since their playoff days, but that's as much a reflection of playing in a very tough division and the natural ebb and flow of success as anything.

Vazquez-

limited no-trade clause blocking deals to 9 clubs in NL West & AL West

He's said many times that he wants to get closer to the east coast not farther away.

Good point on Vazquez.

Even the Chris Young trade you can't really knock - that was a move designed to win in 2006, it just didn't work out. At the time it was a fine move.

Oh, didn't say the things about Kenny as in "he makes bad trades"; it was more to the fact that he hasn't done anything which stands out as helping the path the club was on...

If he lets Beuhrle and Dye walk or trades for major leaguers hitting the FA market before the teams ready to compete again it would only further that.

Divisions too tough to compete with ageing vets and unproven starters...

I don't think AZ needs a rental pitcher like Buehrle. We've begun an extremely quick descent to .500 and adding just one pitcher right now will do nothing to stop that.

From what I have seen of Arizona Hudson is one of the few stable offesive threats in their lineup...they would be wise to hold on to him unless they've given up on the season.

Which negates the use of trading for any pitcher for only 2 months worth of service.

I think GMs can make bad moves and still win the World Series. Walt Jocketty didn't help the Cardinals for years before they won the World Series, and Kenny Williams' team won the World Series when everybody suddenly had career years at once, or way better years than the years before. Seriously, compare everybody on the 2005 White Sox's rosters numbers to the year before and you'll see what I mean.

I still don't think you should trade guys like Carlos Lee for guys like Podsednik, all of that "spark" jive aside. They won, but that's like saying "The Cardinals traded Dan Haren, Kiko Calero, and Daric Barton for Mark Mulder and won a World Series." Yeah, but that's not really the story.
