Once a player clears waivers, he can be traded to any team. Here's a list of the players who have cleared waivers this month plus their contract situation. I'll keep the list up-to-date and put it on the sidebar under MLBTR Features. (Thanks to Jayson Stark for many new additions).

Good news about Farnsworth, maybe someone desperate for bullpen bodies (not help, because he wouldn't be that) down the stretch will take a flyer. Although it was pretty obvious he would pass through I guess, it could almost be assumed.

Someone please take Krazy Kyle
Posted by: bobbymcnally | August 08, 2007 at 03:29 PM
Maybe the Yankees could give that guy who caught A-Rod's 500th ball Farnsworth in exchange for the ball. Kyle, if nothing else, can fight and he has money. So he'd be cool to have around for that dude.

Kyle Farnsworth has a very bright career** ahead of him. I don't see why everyone thinks he sucks.

It always amazes me how many players the Yankees end up overpaying b/c they sign guys after career years or just throw too much money at them. Farnsworth, Damon, Giambi, Pavano, Wright, Big Unit, etc.
Must be nice to be rich so you can afford to overpay.

Yeah, that Randy Johnson free agent signing was a real bad move. *rolls eyes*

You can also replace 'Yankees' with 'Cubs'

cubs claimed shannon stewart per bruce levine espn 1000
Posted by: china423 | August 08, 2007 at 05:55 PM
I called it. Shannon Stewart.
Posted by: Teetz | August 08, 2007 at 08:22 PM
I didn't hear it myself though....Shannon Stewart is the perfect fit. Time to get Jacque and Murton out of the lineup....hopefully Floyd too.

Willy Mo Pena = Career Trade Bait
But seriously, he'll surely garner SOME interest. I don't want him on my team, though.
Posted by: WHIPit | August 08, 2007 at 08:49 PM
What will the Cubs trade for Stewart anyways?
Posted by: Zonis | August 08, 2007 at 08:51 PM
Put in a claim? Won the claim? I don't have an answer yet.

Just curious, where do you find out who's cleared waivers, or is it just in random articles you've read?
Posted by: Arbopp | August 09, 2007 at 07:56 AM
One thing that I don't understand about Waivers is, why would a team not claim a guy and then trade for him after he has cleared? It seems to me like a team would claim a player, they like, so that the parent team has to only deal with them and not have the price get bumped up in a bidding war.
Posted by: cincikid | August 09, 2007 at 10:06 AM
maybe they would rather give up a low level prospect or two and get the team to pay half of his salary.
If a team doesn't claim a guy, but trades for him later, it is probably because they weren't willing to pay his full remaining salary, and they would rather work something out to get some of the contract paid for.

Random articles I've read.

What are the chances of Wily Mo to the Rangers? They really could use the potential in the OF - and with their rebuilding status - why not a shot? You'd have to think 40+ HR in their park. Just not sure what they'd have to give up.
Posted by: dmerandom | August 13, 2007 at 11:11 AM
dmerandom - No to WillyMo! The Rangers don't need him. They've already got Nelson Cruz who's a much cheaper option...or a Marlon Byrd (much cheaper). David Murphy? (much cheaper). Brad Wilkerson? (okay, you've got me there.) The Rangers need a true CF, not some corner-spot reject reserve.

Julio Franco also passed through waivers and is playin on the Braves single A team
Posted by: bravesrule14 | August 13, 2007 at 03:37 PM
why wouldnt the Angels put in a claim on Glaus? his numbers this year dont indicate he is worth the money he is being paid but the risk would be worth it for the Angels.
Posted by: themfightnwords | August 16, 2007 at 04:51 PM
when did Jack Wilson clear waivers?
Posted by: davidstick810 | August 16, 2007 at 05:44 PM
Wilson and Glaus were both added today with Stark's report.
I'm kind of surprised no one claimed Glaus.

scroll down to the waiver rumblings at the bottom of the page. it looks like (gasp) jacque jones was actually claimed on waivers and withdrawn. i know this blog is for players who passed through waivers, but that seems noteworthy considering how many times he's come up on this site over the last year or so
Posted by: boomshwa12 | August 16, 2007 at 06:34 PM
richie sexson surprises me too. i know that he's an important part to the mariners success, but couldn't they have moved ibanez over to first and stuck adam jones in left? then they wouldn't have had to worry about his salary anymore
Posted by: boomshwa12 | August 16, 2007 at 06:36 PM
Boomshwa - I too was surprised that he was pulled back after being claimed - then i looked at his numbers. Since 7/13 when Pinella decided he needed to play everyday to get his swing back Jones is 36 for 107 with 24 rbis. Maybe he was claimed by a team that had nothing to offer cubs wanted? Hes hot now - good time to trade him but only if other team can fill cubs needs. ( please feel free to double check my math - seems too hot but i know he has raised his avg 30 pts in a month )

The Twins should really make a run at Wily Mo. At least he'd be an improvement over any of their current DH's. They have more than enough pitching prospects to through a low ball one to the Red Sox for him...
Posted by: Keegz | August 16, 2007 at 09:50 PM
"why wouldnt the Angels put in a claim on Glaus?"
They can't afford the money if they were to get him ~ Artie told us that...
"richie sexson surprises me too."
If it was the Yankees that made the claim then it could really hurt the M's chances of somehow making the playoffs this year. I imagine they would have given him away to anyone else...

Omar Vizquel failed to clear waivers earlier this month and is ineligible to be traded, ESPN's Buster Olney reports.
It was believed Vizquel did clear waivers. Still, he wasn't likely to be traded anyway.
