« Royals Close To Signing Yasuhito Yabuta | Main | Giants Rumors: Cabrera, Rolen, Walker »
Quick note from Danny Knobler: free agent starter Kenny Rogers has fired Scott Boras, and reiterated that the Tigers are his first priority. Not a good offseason so far for Boras.
Rogers will represent himself. Jason Beck says Rogers received two contract offers through Boras from the Tigers and they were declined. I imagine now they'll get something done soon.

Boras saying Rogers would consider offers from other teams might be the worst bluff ever.
He shouldn't represent Rogers, Boras is for a young FA wanting to get the most cash, Rogers wasn't that guy.

Good, it's about time someone realized their best interests weren't put forth by Boras. Good job

Could it be the demise of Scott Boras? The beginning of the end of the strangle hold he has over the MLB free agent market. I hope so.

I don't think the demise of Boras is imminent. This is an individual situation where the player and the agent could not see eye to eye on an issue. Rogers just wants to stay in Detroit but Boras wanted to get Rogers the biggest deal he could. Maybe this was caused by a lack of communication, and Rogers realized he couldn't get what he wanted with Boras doing his bidding. That is purely speculation on my part though.
I think quintjs is on the right track: Boras just doesn't work for what Rogers obviously wants to do at this point in his career. For him it's not about squeezing every last dollar out of a team, he's 43 years old and wants to pitch probably just one more year and not have to move in the process. This was the best move for him at this point in his career but make no mistake: players will not be fleeing from Boras, the man who helped make many of them millionaires.

Interesting though is that Greg Maddux was in a more or less similar situation with the Padres and managed to work out a deal via Boras.

i read that maddux actually did that deal on his own even though boras is his agent.
