| Unfounded Rumor: Kaz Matsui »
By Tim Dierkes [November 28, 2007 at 9:42am CST]
Shooter! It's time for some new rumors courtesy of Charley Walters. You like rumors don't you?
- Walters tosses out the idea of a Matt Garza for Carlos Quentin swap. He's the guy who was saying previously that Garza for Delmon Young wouldn't die. I think if Quentin demonstrated good health this could be a fair swap. Meanwhile, Buster Olney suggests Quentin could end up an Athletic if the D'Backs look to acquire Dan Haren or Joe Blanton. However, Nick Piecoro doesn't see it happening.
- No extension talks going on with Justin Morneau, and it's arbitration time. Hey, maybe those trade rumors had substance after all. Nah, probably not.
- Walters echoes Ken Rosenthal in suggesting that Joe Nathan will be traded. He believes talks with the Brewers could be forthcoming.

Why does Matt Garza come up in so many trade rumors? why would the twins want to trade him, he seems like the real deal.

Garza for Quintin? That works. I wish the Mets could make a harder play for Garza. Oh Well.
I am not sure that the Twins trade Garza if they trade Johan.

If the Twins trade Santana, they'd better hold onto all their other starting pitching with a death grip if they want to ahve a chance in a couple of years.
Nathan, on the other hand, is expendible since Neshek's a closer waiting to happen. I don't see why they wouldn't move Nathan now.

Just about every Santana deal seems to be asking for a ready-for-major or almost ready SP prospect. Given Twins' depth, they probably can afford to trade Garza if he really brings back a good young bat.
Not sure Carlos Quentin is the solution though, isn't he a RF and Cuddyer is already there? I guess one can move to LF and Kubel to DH.
In a way I'm surprised Garza is being talked so much. He relied a bit too much on his mid 90's fastball in his short time in majors so his WHIP was atrocious, but most young guys with great stuff does that. (Beckett was throwing all heat just a couple years back) Nice upside guy for sure.

Um, I just noticed Cuddyer played 150 games at 3B for them before, maybe that's what'll happen, move Cuddyer back to 3B? He's a bit below average in range but might still be serviceable there.
