| Tigers Could Lose Rogers, Move On To Silva »

Plenty of new hot stove talk involving the Mets. Let's get into it.
- First off, there's the fact that Omar Minaya met with Scott Boras yesterday. Minaya says he talked to Boras about all the players he represents. Besides Mr. Rodriguez, Eric Gagne, Byung-Hyun Kim, Kenny Rogers, and Kyle Lohse may be considerations for the Mets. Indeed, there is some buzz that the Mets could bring Kim in to compete for a rotation spot.
- So what about A-Rod? He'd cost the Mets a ton of money, plus the #22 overall pick in the 2008 draft. It sounds like the Mets may hear Boras out as a courtesy, and even put in an offer they feel is reasonable. That number might fall far short of what it will take, as did theirs for Daisuke Matsuzaka and Barry Zito a year ago. That said, Mets insiders aren't afraid of the full retail price of Rodriguez.
- The top priority remains pitching. Carlos Silva, Tom Glavine, Hiroki Kuroda, and A.J. Burnett are on the radar. On the relief side, Chad Cordero and Jon Rauch could again be in the mix. The Nats' are said to have their eye on Carlos Gomez and Mike Pelfrey. Gomez is a hot topic these days - the Twins want him too, and could offer up Matt Garza, Kevin Slowey, or Scott Baker.

I'm curious what could the Mets offer the Jays for Burnett.

The Phillies add Lidge and move Myers to the rotation, and the Mets rumors include Byun-Hyung Kim? Love it.

I wouldn't characterize the Mets bid of $39M as falling far short. The thought was that somewhere around $30M would win Dice-K...who knew the Red Sox would bid $51M!

HA! Please let the Mets pick up Kim and his awesome Home Run Pitch.

To me, the Mets need to get something done with the Twins. Minnesota has clear depth at pitching, and Garza and Slowley would fit great in their rotation. C. Gomez is a great prospect (who Jose Reyes said was faster than he is) that is basically useless to the Mets. Sign Posada, trade for one of those pitchers, and they will have a good team. BTW, why isn't Castillo a good fit for second base? He did well last year and fit in the two spot perfectly.
Reyes
Castillo
Beltran
Wright
Delgado
Posada
Alou / Milledge
Green / Free Agent
Pedro (risking the chance to look like an idiot because I forget how long he's signed)
Maine
Garza
Perez
Competition between Pelfrey, O. Hernandez, etc. for fifth spot

Gomez for Garza straight up?
I will drive Carlos to the airport.
So far he's shown that he can run fast and throw seed from the outfield. Can he take a pitch? Can he work the count to his favor? Who knows when he will actually get it. If you can get away with not sweetnening the deal, you end up with a pretty deep rotation for the future. Pelfrey and Humber can take their time. If they don't sign Johan, then look out. But if they trade Johan or Baker, I imagine that they will resign Johan.

I meant if they trade any of their studs prospects then they will prob sign Johan.
By the way, Slowey is not the guy the Mets want.

Oh and if Gomez can net Garza, why on earth would we give up Gomez for Cordero.
GO F yourself Bowden. You should have taken HUmber when you had the chance.

Smh phillies really think lidge is a savior don't get me wrong I think its a great pick up.but he hasn't been the same since pujols homerun in the playoffs and left field won't help much either

I was under the impression that Arod's wife wanted OUT of NY, so don't you think it would take an absurd offer from the Mets to lure him there? Doesn't seem likely.

Why does everybody keep saying the Mets need starting pitching. All they have to do is replace Glavine. Getting Silva doesnt make this team any btter, it just takes up a lot of money that could be used elsewhere and blocks a kid. Same thing with Blanton. You get a number 4 maybe number 3 guy back, a fat one nonetheless, and you give up Milledge and then some? Please. Sign A-Rod, move Heilman into the rotation, make some trades for bullpen help, and be done with it.
Trading Gomez would be a big mistake, the kid will be special. You'll see in a few years. The thing I dont get though, its the Mets rotation, all in all was pretty good. Now they have a full year of Pedro instead of a revolving door. Heilman is a cheap internall option. My idea if he will do atleast as good as Looper did. That leaves one more spot. You cant let El Duque and Pelfrey and Humber and Mulvey fight it out? What is the point in having young pitching if you never give it a chance and sign guys like Silva to 10 mil per contracts.
Pedro
Perez
Maine
El Duque
Heilman
with Pelfrey, Humber, Mulvey, etc in case of an injury. With A-rod in the lineup, I would feel fine about that rotation. I would be okay with it even without A-rod. I would rather miss the playoffs again in 08 then trade away all our youth for an average at best starter in Blanton or give 50 mil to Carlos Silva. Omar has been smart so far, he has left people alone that the Mets have no business offering contracts too. Now a guy comes around who is worth huge dollars. Better seriously look into it Omar, especially after last september.

Randomscrub, how do you figure a 21 year old outfielder who has been projected by some to be a 30/50 guy is useless? Because he isnt ready yet? Good logic. He is also said to be a spectacular fielder, and one of the fastest, if not the fastest baserunner in the league. Omar wont trade him unless he gets literally blown away. We always hear how Gomez or Milledge will be going to oakland for Fat Blanton, fopr like the last 2 years. Well, Omar hasnt bitten on that one yet, and I hope he stays smart and doesnt trade away big time talent for Blantons fat ass. The guy has been on the block for like 2 years (blanton), how come nobody wants him? Either Beane is asking for way to much, or teams realize Blanton is average at best and wont give up anything good for him.
