Odds and Ends: Kuroda, Hunter, Crede

What'd I miss recently?  Here are some odds and ends.

  • The Tigers have expressed interest in Hiroki Kuroda.  They join the Phillies, Mariners, Dodgers, Royals, Rangers, Cubs, and Mets in that pursuit.
  • 10 teams are interested in Aaron Rowand!  That's almost 1/3 of all baseball teams!
  • Torii Hunter is after a seven-year deal.  Most feel he's saying that because he wants six.  Clever!
  • The Twins are taking a look at Tony Clark as a cheap DH option.  He's supposedly looking for something like two years, $4MM and more playing time.  This would be a very Twins-like signing.
  • T.R. Sullivan has a Rangers update.  Apparently Jon Daniels is checking in on big names like Johan Santana, Erik Bedard, and Miguel Cabrera.  More realistically Daniels may go out to Japan for players such as Kosuke Fukudome and Hiroki Kuroda (we knew that already).  We also knew the Rangers had Kerry Wood and Eric Gagne on their radar.  Sullivan speculates that Scott Linebrink and LaTroy Hawkins could also be in the mix.
  • Barry Rozner expects Joe Crede to be traded. It seems like Crede is a Plan B or C for a lot of teams and Kenny Williams may have to wait til a few dominoes fall first.

I think it's pretty funny how this Barry Rozner guy says that ONE of those Dodger prospects could be dealt for Miguel Cabrerra. Try 3 or 4. Ad I think Colletti would probably stick with Nomar at 3B, if he cant land Cabrerra. Does Colletti want to deal with Boras over Crede?

why not let Andy LaRoche play 3rd?

LaRoche has been tearing it up in International Ball, along with Delwyn Young.

Rangers you will lose to the Cubs on 2 if not 3 of those guys.

Yes, a couple of beers and a late Friday night make me feel like a big man.

…LaRoche has also put up 300-315 / 375-410 / 515-589 numbers in the minors the last three years…

Why in the world every Dodger fan on the planet seems to think he will never provide any results in the majors and is overrated or whatever is way beyond me. I’ve been saying it for months, if the Dodgers don’t want to ever try him please fell free to ship him to my Indians!

LaRoche has several things working against him. He did not produce immediately upon call up. He's injury prone. He always has bad spring trainings. He already has gotten the 'bad attitude' label. No wonder the Dodgers don't want to give him a job, not that I agree with them. When he's healthy he mashes. If they had played him consistently for 3 or so weeks, he would have been fine.

Tim, 10 out of 30 is 1/3, not almost 1/3. :)

I want to point out that I am not asking this to argue and rather really ask…

…But I hear that “injury prone” thing all the time and just don’t see it. I mean 2004 127 split-level games, 05 127 split-level games, 06 117 split-level games and 07 73 in minors and months riding the pine resulting in 35 in the Majors. I realize that his back was hurting or something when he was first called up, and I really think that’s where 95% of that whole “injury prone” thing comes from; but is that really a proper label?

But even with all that stuff against him, that was 3 straight years of 300-315 / 375-410 / 515-590! Doesnt it just make you drool...

You would be wrong "true cubs fan" Fukudome and Kuroda are either staying back in Japan or in a warm weather city. Wood is going to Texas or Houston.

i read not long ago that the Jays GM JP Ricciardi said he would not be interested in LaRoche and a young pitcher for Glaus.. which is just insane. id give Glaus for just LaRoche.
would the Dodgers do that?

and has there been anything recently on the Jays? very rarely do i see anything connected with the Jays
