Would only make sense for the Angels if they know for sure that Saunders or Santana will be moved for a bat. Otherwise they would have a 6 man rotation with Adenhart coming next year.

Is it really a good idea for the cardinals to trade rolen from a baseball standpoint. his value can't be much lower, i'd wait and see if he can raise it a little.
Or if he can't get his shoulder squared away, maybe just hope for him to retire. makes about as much sense as trading him at this point

You know what I think would be absolutely hilaroius? If somehow the Phils go Rolen on the cheap and traded for him. He is a great 3rd when healthy. But the irony would be hilarious. (I don't think it going to happen)
But I would like the Phillies get involved on Clement and Colon, two good pitchers who are low risk high reward. Speaking of Riske, I think he would make a great addition to the Phillies bullpen.

ConservativeTog,
I like your thinking on Clement and Colon--precisely the kind of pitcher acquisition I think the Phils should gamble on.

I'm surprised. Rolen may actually be a hotter commodity than I thought. After his last surgery I would have bet money that the Cards would have trouble locating even one team willing to risk him.
Now it seems like maybe they can sit back and get their best offer on him. Granted, the best offer will probably be junk, but still, it's surprising.

I think the Phils should go after Colon, but not Rolen. They don't need to spend that kind of money on offense, they have offense. Depends on how much the Cards would be willing to pay. But in Colon's case if you could get him for 1/7 with incentives i think its a good idea. Put him in that rotation with Hamels, Myers, Moyer, and Kendrick, and thats a good rotation to go with a dominating offense and a now better bullpen (Flash Gordon, Lidge, Romero)
