Reliever Masahide Kobayashi filed for free agency and is interested in MLB offers. He'd prefer to close but it's not a dealbreaker.
Do you expect us to know how to speak japanese?
Posted by: clarknaddison | November 02, 2007 at 04:59 PM
I think Tracy meant Noah Lowry. Not Tim Lincecum.
Posted by: Sal | November 02, 2007 at 05:06 PM
I hope the White Sox consider signing one of the top Japanese relievers.

There is a another article about the availabilty of Caion and/or Lincecum. Stupid suggestion.
Posted by: bravesrule14 | November 02, 2007 at 05:13 PM
There is no bat available that would make me OK with losing Lincecum. Maybe if Florida gave up Cabrera, Ramirez AND Jacobs I wouldn't cry too much...
Posted by: PapaGiorgio | November 02, 2007 at 05:22 PM
The only way Giants trade Lincecum is if a name like Pujols is involved!!
A "quality" bat is what you trade Lowry and a prospect for.
Posted by: zito4cyyoung | November 02, 2007 at 05:27 PM
Carl Crawford for Tim Linceucum
Posted by: WHITESOX | November 02, 2007 at 05:31 PM
Lincecum for Crawford, Longoria and Brignac, nothing less!
Lincecum for Pujols, Duncan and Carpenter, nothing less!
Posted by: PapaGiorgio | November 02, 2007 at 05:36 PM
WS..
That might work too...
Crawford has the tools and is already a solid player.
Posted by: zito4cyyoung | November 02, 2007 at 05:36 PM
"Either Ringolsby is misinformed, or Brian Sabean has lost it."
These are not mutually exclusive. Sabean has a long history of overpaying for mediocre veterans rather than go young, and as he continues to try and re-sign guys like Omar Vizquel and Pedro Feliz, it's not hard to see him dealing Lincecum for an average-to-slightly-above-average aging outfielder.
Posted by: chris heer | November 02, 2007 at 05:38 PM
Joe Nathan, Francisco Liriano & Boof Bonser for AJ Pierzynski.
That says exactly what Sabean is capable of.
Posted by: PapaGiorgio | November 02, 2007 at 05:42 PM
Papa..
Why you gotta go there??
lol

A lot of people seem to think Schill is a dick. But I don't. I really like how he does anything to win and is extremely blunt. I can only hope he comes to the Phils, but in all honesty I see him signing in Boston.
Posted by: no funny hats | November 02, 2007 at 05:58 PM
People think he is a dick in large part due to the Mitch Williams fiasco. Other things too, I can't cite anything in particular but something tells me he's said things that didn't need to be said at certain times. Oh, and he's a spotlight hog.
Posted by: gogopalehose | November 02, 2007 at 06:08 PM
Tom Glavine in the American League East, now that is really funny. Cocaine is a hell of a drug.
Posted by: coolpapabell | November 02, 2007 at 06:09 PM
People think he is a dick because he is a dick.
Posted by: zito4cyyoung | November 02, 2007 at 06:09 PM
Oh man... what I wouldn't give for a front line of Lincecum, Hughes and Joba.
Seriously, is Sabean insane?

"Do you expect us to know how to speak japanese?"
That's why I told you what it said bro!
Hindsight is 20/20. None of us would have objected to the Liriano deal at the time it was made.

Hey Tim...
Do Baldelli and Dukes have any value at this point?
The Rays don't need them and could use some pitching behind Kazmir and Shields (Price and Niemann coming but still...).
Posted by: henry14theking | November 02, 2007 at 06:25 PM
hey Tim, you seemed concerned that the Cubs may pick up Steve Trachsels Option, but im at mlb.com and i see his name under filed for free agency.
im assuming this means his option was in fact Declined..
link.

Tim, just some random info. Reed Johnson will not be non-tendered.
There has been speculation about Toronto possibly parting ways with Johnson, who missed three months with a back injury, but Ricciardi said that's no longer the case.
"There's no reason why we wouldn't be able to bring him back," Ricciardi said about Johnson, who is eligible for arbitration.
Posted by: Grant77 | November 02, 2007 at 07:18 PM
i would give up yunel, kj, and a top pitching prospect (with lilbridge and prado filling in in '08) to get lincecum as a braves fan... that guy will be a stud
there's no way that article can have any validity... lincecum for "a quality bat" is insane
Posted by: dudetheplayer | November 02, 2007 at 07:33 PM
No you know the saying, "Quality bats" win championships. It's brilliant.
Posted by: ArodSucksAtLife | November 02, 2007 at 07:47 PM
People hate Schilling because of his politics and the fact that he speaks his mind. Stupid reasons to dislike a baseball player.
Obviously the Giants want to trade Lincecum for Duncan.
OK, in all seriousness, at least if Sabean "shops" Lincecum, the market will naturally shield him from doing something too retarded. Of course, it is Brian Sabean, so who knows.

The Giants really want Ramirez last off season:http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2006/11/27/SPGBSMKD521.DTL
Matt Cain's name even came up. At the time of the trade discussions last off-season Lincecum was under draft protection so was not available....That would a cheap young and affordable pitcher to replace Schilling and a great rotation. If that ever happened a lot of $$$ would free up for Arod.

Manny is probably not worth his contract, so why would he be worth his contract and five years of Lincecum?
Posted by: plh903 | November 02, 2007 at 08:48 PM
I saw that Trax filed...I'll have to look into that.
Posted by: Tim Dierkes | November 02, 2007 at 09:14 PM
any chance a jose tabata plus a lil something for lincecum works out. tabata is supposed to be great in a couple years. still dont know why they would wanna trade licecum for any real reason, but just a thought
Posted by: jerseyballer | November 02, 2007 at 09:23 PM
I am VERY interested in the Trax thing too. I think hendry got himself in a pickle because he ended up trading away a pretty decent prospect...which means that he will look like a retard (not saying he isn't a lot of the time) if he doesn't keep him around. I think he needs to bite the bullet on this one. A mix of Gallegher, Prior, Hart, and a lot of Marshall needs to be occupying that 5th spot.
Posted by: Aduncaroo | November 03, 2007 at 12:08 AM
Lincecum? No freakin' way. He's going to win more than 1 Cy Young, and the Giants are not ignorant to that fact. By far the most exciting young pitcher to watch in the majors. The Giants couldn't get his full value in a trade if they wanted to.
Posted by: FineHamAbounds | November 03, 2007 at 12:24 AM
"Manny is probably not worth his contract, so why would he be worth his contract and five years of Lincecum?"
Manny is worth his contract. And after this year its team options for 09, and 10. He is a good deal. 5 years of Lincecum? Maybe not. He apparently was rumored to be traded for Cain plus, which could have been a decent trade.
Posted by: ArodSucksAtLife | November 03, 2007 at 12:24 AM
Yes, they couldnt, because he has only thrown 150 or so big league innings, and I hate to say it, but all signs (5"10, 170lb) to me atleast, point to some kind of injury and surgery some time down the road. I dont think the guys frame can support his delivery for years to come. I guess we'll see, but to me he looks like a shoulder injury waiting to happen.

If they don't go all Dusty Baker on him, he can be fine.
Posted by: ArodSucksAtLife | November 03, 2007 at 02:47 PM
Yeah, I know, it is more like a gut feeling I know there are cases of small guys that never got hurt, and I hope he doesnt, cause he is a stud, but I just see a shoulder surgery somewhere in his future.
Posted by: nrmax88 | November 03, 2007 at 04:11 PM
He sure is fun to watch.

There is a hard-core group of Mets fans calling for a Beltran/Lincecum swap, while using some of Beltrans money to pursue A-rod. Some of them even want to try to throw in Delgado to free up some cash and free up 1B for Wright. Move Milledge to center. It is an interesting idea. The giants could certainly use Beltran patrolling center, and he is a legit stud, not just a quality bat.
Man it is annoying having to sign out and in almost every single time I post.
Posted by: nrmax88 | November 03, 2007 at 04:50 PM
Signing Gagne would be a good idea for the Rangers because it would allow them to do the same thing they did this year: let Gagne reestablish his value and trade him to a reliever hungry ball club willing to overpay with prospects.
Posted by: LADFan | November 03, 2007 at 05:06 PM
Yep, same thing with KC and dotel.
Posted by: nrmax88 | November 03, 2007 at 05:34 PM
Hunter Pence for Lincecum and Jonathan Sanchez?
If Sabean is that eager to get a young, proven bat, he should want Pence over anyone else mentioned above.
Lincecum for Pence would probably be equal in real life, but if Sabean is that anxious for a bat, I'd ask for Sanchez also. Plus, Lincecum and Sanchez are both bigger risks than an OF like Pence.
Still, I'd trade the perennial all-star outfielder for the perennial Cy Young candidate pitcher.
