Ken Rosenthal is back with a column loaded with rumory goodness. Rosenthal's column is like a drug.
- Rosenthal doesn't think the Red Sox will just ignore the availability of Alex Rodriguez, especially if someone lures Mike Lowell away with a five-year offer. Rosenthal suggests a shorter term of five-years, $150MM with option years and opt-outs so that A-Rod could have one more payday as he theoretically approaches Hank Aaron's record.
- Jorge Posada will receive a "monster offer" from the Mets. While the Mets can't move him to DH down the road, they can put him at first base. I've been saying 4/56, but 5/70 isn't out of the question apparently. Posada wants a four-year deal, and won't sign with the Yanks without fielding other offers first. Apparently the Marlins and Blue Jays are also in on him.
- The Nationals may be kicking the tires on big names Torii Hunter and Aaron Rowand, but Jim Bowden is also a big Mike Cameron fan. The Nats do seem a reasonable fit.
- The Cubs are also in on Cameron, in addition to Kosuke Fukudome. Rosenthal suggests the Cubs could put Felix Pie in left if they get Cameron.
- Scott Boras client Kyle Lohse is looking for 4-5 years, $10-11MM annually. No surprise there.
- The Royals are looking to add a starter and a reliever, and maybe a closer if they decide to put Joakim Soria in the rotation.
I cant believe Cameron is still a hot ticket after getting busted, thats alot of heavy baggage for a team to carry, just ask the Giants organization

Pie in LF??? Hmm. Yeah, maybe it's a Spring Training competition for playing time in LF between Felix Pie and Alfonso Soriano.
Whatever. Pie is not playing LF, barring major injury to Soriano. If they do sign Fukodome AND a CF, Pie will be traded for pitching or a SS.

God I hope the Cubs aren't dumb enough to trade Pie for Khalil Greene...

God, if it's 5 years, let them have Posada. He's coming off a lucky year offensively, mediocre defensively, and will prove to have one of the worth contracts in baseball at the end when he's a 40 year old 1B with poor defense and offensive production ranking among the worst everyday 1B/DH.
Typical of the Mets to do something like that. I could see overpaying in years for someone like Pedro, but for Posada?
I guess if they want to spend the money though...

04Forever, getting busted for amphetimines isn't frowned on as much as steroids. There was a time when most players used uppers during the long season. I'm not agreeing with that view, I'm just giving you my observation.

That Pie in left thing is just dumb...Pie is the better defender RIGHT NOW than Cameron...he is probably one of the best in baseball. Putting him in left is downright retarded.
If the Cubs get Fukudome, they should be thrilled and going after a SP or SS. I agree, Greene is not going to be good enough for them, at least I don't believe. The media and fan base will be yelling for Theriot if Green is all they get. I am secretly hoping for them to sign Fukudome and have Tejada's name come out in the Mitchell report, and have the Cubs trade for him while his value is at a low.

What about Pie for Michael Young? There are some concerns ... Young is 31, doesn't have exceptional range, and his power is in decline, and he's yet another RH bat in that lineup ... but on the flipside he's clutch and he gets on base. The Rangers are in rebuild mode, so I wouldn't be surprised to see them ship him off if they can get a cornerstone CF.

if pie is to be mentioned in trade talk, i hope it is for a top of the rotation pitcher pushing lilly down to the 3 spot and hill down to the 5 spot.

I don't think the Cubs are trying to trade Pie for a SS...honestly, I think I'd rather have Green than Young. I don't know...there aren't a ton of good options honestly. They may be alright to keep Pie and let Theriot and Cedeno fight it out for a spot. Ronny has a ton of upside, just don't know if he will ever realize it.

ANY possibility the Cubs try and move Soriano back to the infield?
Posted by: FriendofRotoAuthority | November 06, 2007 at 11:36 AM
None whatsoever.

Rosenthal probably just meant to say Pie in RF.
Posted by: Tim Dierkes | November 06, 2007 at 11:53 AM
Lets hope thats the case...for his credibility's sake.

I would love to see Tejada in a Cubs uni. He's been dissatisfied with the O's as of late and is a consistent ballplayer who does not strike out a whole lot (also doesn't take a whole lot of BBs either). Teams talk of 'major-league ready' players in these kinds of deals and the Cubs have 3 or 4 that could be dealt and are appealing. Cedeno, Murton, Theriot, and even Fontenot. I know we got Fonty from the O's (for Sosa) but we package two of those with a top-level prospect for Miggy, that's not a bad deal for both sides. I'd even deal Pie for him if that's what it called for.
Tejada was mentioned in trade rumors last season with Chicago and knowing McPhail's ties to the Cubs franchise, I believe it could be a real possibility.
Any of this seem plausible to anyone else, and if not, please offer up a differing opinion.
