« Mets Close To Deals With Torrealba, Castro | Main | Nats Trying To Acquire Dukes? »
UPDATE: An official statement from A-Rod - he and his wife spoke with the Steinbrenners today. Contract talks are expected to continue and it looks positive. I'm also getting emailers from readers who have heard from John Sterling, Yankees radio announcer. Sterling apparently has a source close to Rodriguez saying that the chance of A-Rod re-signing is 101 on a scale of 1 to 100. So there you go.
UPDATE: Ken Rosenthal notes that A-Rod would need to fire Boras for the Yankees to exclude him from negotiations. Otherwise, it would be a violation of the Basic Agreement.
This is a shock to some, not so much to others. Mark Feinsand and Bill Madden are reporting that the Yankees are in contract talks with Alex Rodriguez.
Two stipulations from the Yanks: the contract would have to compensate for the lost Texas money, and they don't want Scott Boras involved. Rodriguez would have to talk directly to the Steinbrenner brothers before anything could be completed. Taking a "below-market" deal might be a way for Rodriguez to improve his public perception. Would Boras still get a 5% commission?
The Yankees have surveyed the third base market and may have realized that they can't afford to lose Rodriguez's production. Perhaps they feel Mike Lowell at four years is questionable, and acquiring Miguel Cabrera creates too many new holes.
Peter Abraham, by the way, doesn't buy any of this. He's certain it's posturing, and expects Rodriguez to make a point to talk about coming back to the Yankees on Monday's MVP conference call. ShysterBall leans toward skepticism as well.

"Anyone that gives Santana an 8 year deal is out of his mind. I think a 6/120 isn't too far off what he is worth. That being said, he probably will get an 8 year deal and in year 3 or 4 of that deal it will be one of the worst deal in baseball history."
I couldnt possibly agree more. If santana hits the open market next year it will be just like A-Rod this year. His agent will probably be trying to get him 8/200 and teams will just be laughing. It cannot be justified if a team gives him that contract.

Easy... I didn't say I would give him 8/200. I'm just saying that he'll be looking for something like that. And you're right... A-Rod looked for 10 years, and will probably settle for 8. It's not insane to think that SOMEONE will throw 8 years at Johan. I personally wouldn't, but someone will.

@Red Sox Dynasty!
I think I speak for most people on the site when I say...
Find the nearest bridge, and jump off of it. Either that or turn your god damn caps lock OFF.

I've been a Red Sox fan my entire life. And I'd like to say that RED SOX DYNASTY does not represent my opinions or my attitude, nor is he representative of Red Sox fans as a whole - just the loudest, most obnoxious ones.
Also, I always find it hilarious when people say "TRUST ME WHEN I SAY..." without having done or said ANYTHING to earn that trust.

A-Rod doesnt even need Boras anymore. agents are supposed to get the best deal possible for the clients, A-Rod doesnt even need help, especially if he is staying with the yankees

That is an awesome theory dude. I dont know why I didnt think of this first. Okay though, I wana play. I dont want Albert Pujols, because in 2 years he will be Mo Vuahgn. Hmmmm.....
Anyway, sorry Jerseyfan, I just think 8 years for a pitcher, let alone 25 mil for all 8 of those years, is not a good idea. Too risky.

Rofl. The hilarious thing is, I was in the car and heard this call liv, and he really said something absurd like that. The ball was like barely even too the warning track and he said it was gone. He was all ready to be like..." The Melk Man Delivers!"
Redsoxdynasty is doing nothing at all but bringing awful karma into all boston sports. Sure, they are great now, but if youre not careful, you can find yourself rooting for a lot of really bad teams pretty quick. Sports gods are a fickle bunch man, dont fukc with them.

But hey, all teams have neurotic/idiotic fans, just dont judge us by taking the worst we have to offer. Judging redsox fans by REDSOX DYNASTY's statements would be like evaluating the whole female race based on Rosie O'donnnel.
