No point in the Phillies trading a solid platoon guy in Helms for another wild minor league reliever.

If the Fish are assuming all of Wes Helms salary, I'd have no problem parting with Wes for a bag of potato chips.

Against lefties, Helms was .282/.346/.444. Unless the Phillies get another 3rd baseman to take his place, why not keep him to platoon with Dobbs?

wow enough said....
im trying to figure out how the reds didnt pull the trigger on that one...if the marlins werent set...would a trade of Encarcion and/or Cantu and Hamilton not have got the deal done?
If so...would the reds accept this deal?? I wouldnt see why not...hmmmm

Ok, so Sabean did not want delmon for lincecum, and would not offer lincecum for cabrera, yet may do rios for lincecum. Where is the logic in that?
Anywho, that would have been a decent swap for both the marlins and the reds. The reds do at least get a workhorse who has the potential to be a frontline guy in the NL at least, while the marlins would have gotten a centerfielder who also could have provided a middle of the order bat to replace cabreara. Well, that would have worked, but I think the marlins were smart in getting the guys they got from the tigers, as that bounty was a lot more prosperous when dontrelle was combined with miguel.

Is this a joke? Josh Hamilton had a 131 ops+ this past year with 19 homers in 90 games, and he has good speed and a great arm. 1 year of service time! His potential is through the roof.
Willis had a 1.59 whip in 200 innings in a pitchers park. Maybe he will turn it around, and maybe he won't. But my money is on Hamilton to have a better career.
Now take into account that Hamilton will be a free agent after 5 years, willis after 3. Hamilton made 380,000 in 07, Willis made 6.45. Why would the reds even answer this phone call.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the DBacks get in the mix for Willis. They've been pretty interested in him over the last 3 years and it looks like there just aren't many pitcher options left open.

Gaby Sanchez will be the starting 3B by August. He is the reason why the Marlins felt this was the time to move Miggy. They want to start breaking in Gaby.
I predict he will bat ard a respectable .260/.330/.400 with some rough defense.

I'm a reds fan and if that Dontrelle for Hamilton trade was offered to me Josh Hamilton would already be on his way down I-75 with a pretty bow attached to him. Hamilton is going to be a great player but our main need is pitching. The reds seem to be good at revitalizing slumping people maybe we could have done the same with Willis.
