Giants Rumors: Silva, Kuroda, Lowry

Andrew Baggarly checks in with some new Giants information.

  • He says the Giants are acting as if they're planning on trading a pitcher, checking in with the agents for Carlos Silva and Hiroki Kuroda.  Brian Sabean found the cost for Kuroda prohibitive, though.  This activity is, of course, linked to the rumored Tim Lincecum trade.
  • No truth to the rumors linking the Giants to Ben Broussard and Shawn Green.
  • Teams have called about Noah Lowry, but the Giants have only gotten lowball offers.

If we can pick up Kuroda, then the Lincecum for Rios + prospect wouldn't be bad.

Lowry to Dbacks for Chad Tracy could be another deal since Dbacks have options at 3B

Still no word on what Tim had for lunch, but an announcement could be made shortly.

I think the Giants would be better off using their money on some offense. Their rotation would still be decent without Lincecum.

Zito
Cain
Lowry
Sanchez

Just sign a couple of cheap starters to fill the 4 and 5 spots (in case Sanchez blows).

And if the Giants get Thigpen they should move Molina for whatever they could get for him and use Alfonzo and Thigpen and catcher.

Correia will start in front of Sanchez...

As much as I hate to give up Tim, Rios plus Thigpen or Diaz would be fair.

"Just sign a couple of cheap starters"

Did you just use Cheap and Starters in the same sentence???!!!

Has Tim's agent been consulted on these lunch rumors? I hear he may bypass lunch altogether in hopes of getting a better deal on dinner.

I wonder if the Phillies would be able to pry both Lincecum and Cain away for R. Howard, Kyle Kendrick and some high prospects.

Both Cain and Lincecum????

Um...NO!!!

i'm pretty sure the giants would go for howard, kendrick, + prospects for lincecum and cain... but the phillies would be completely retarded to do so.

Instead of signing some "cheap" (haha) starters... why not do the lincicum/rios deal and sign andruw to a 1 or 2 year deal?

Jones and Rios improve your pitching with their defense, plus it's two power bats you can plug into the middle of your order.

There would be an excessive amount of OF's on the team... but you could start Davis, have Schierholtz and Lewis spend another year at triple A unless needed b/c of injury. Roberts and Winn are your 4th and 5th OF, which they prob should be anyway... or try to trade one of em for a bandaid at 3rd.

Now you run out a lineup like this:

Davis Zito
Durham Cain
Rios Lowry
Jones Sanchez
Molina Anyone
Ortmeier
Aurilia
Vizquel

Much better than the motley crew they're running out there now.

Ok then...

Zito
Cain
Lowry
Correia
Sanchez

And all they would need is somebody like Chacon to jump into the rotation if Sanchez isn't ready.

Like I said before, by making the Rios deal and then signing a cheap starter, the Giants won't need to spend money on Kuroda and they can go get some offense.

jclay:
Winn had a solid year last year, much better than any '4th or 5th outfielder' on any team...

Sanchez has done nothing to show me he can handle starting pitching. He's done well in the BP, but the starts I've seen of his haven't been very good. If we can get Silva or Kuroda then trading Lincecum or Cain will be more tolerable, but there should be NO way we give up both.

I agree NW, Sanchez is far more reliable out of the BP, his starts have been very lackluster, Misch's starts were much better than his

Sanchez is a good prospect though. He has potential. Give Sanchez a chance in Spring Training and if things don't work out that veteran free agent that they signed can join the rotation instead. That will allow Sanchez to join the rotation if and when he is ready.

I could live with a Lincecum deal for Rios if they picked up Silva, but the rotation including Correia & Sanchez scares me...

Correia has had time to prove himself as a starter and hasnt. I still don't know if I believe in Sanchez. But having Silva fill that 4th spot would be nice.

Whats the word on Boone?
