What are the Pads going to be doing to rectify our gross deficiencies in quality outfield depth?
Posted by: The Third Giles | December 17, 2007 at 12:09 AM
That's a lot of unnecessary big words for one post.

From now on please ask questions like the one above in such manner:
The Padres outfield sucks yo. What the dilly?
Posted by: PDubs | December 17, 2007 at 12:44 AM
Jim Edmonds?

With the growing concern about climate change, what would your administration do to alleviate this problem and what steps would be taken to reverse these effects?

Will the Mets go out and get an ace for the rotation or are they just going to waste the season with what they have? Enquiring minds want to know!

In your opinion, what are the chances of the Orioles trading Bedard to the Dodgers now (post Kuroda signing) for any players that DO NOT include Kemp,Loney,Bills,Kershaw..? I dont see any other clubs making better offers now, especially with Arizona just trading away their chips for Harren. If I was Colleti, I'd tell the Orioles GM to pick any THREE from this list: ethier/abreu/elbert/miller/McDonald/bell/dewitt/dejesus/meloan. I think that's a better offer than "most" other teams could give. I see the Orioles starting to feel a bit more pressure now and soon folding in, trading away Bedard for less than what they have been demanding. They better hurry up, time is running out and they can get more for him the sooner they trade him. Otherwise, he cannot wait to leave Baltimore.

Will anyone read this post and EMail the questions instead of posting them in the comments?
Posted by: SDSU Aztec | December 17, 2007 at 02:13 AM
I have heard that the WhiteSox are having trouble finding any real interest in Joe Crede on the trade market and therefore are considering making Paul Konerko available in trade instead. I would assume that this would mean that the would continue to play Crede at 3B and move Fields to 1B if they do actually trade Konerko. It is also my understanding that the WhiteSox are hurting for quality outfielders since they lost out on both Fukudome and Rowand. So, with these circumstances in mind, my questions are: Do you think the WhiteSox would consider trading Konerko to the Giants for Randy Winn and Noah Lowry? If such a trade were to happen how would you rate the trade for both the Giants and the WhiteSox?
Posted by: giantsrainman | December 17, 2007 at 02:35 AM
Why are the Giants so stupid?

"Anything goes, I'll pick a bunch and answer 'em on Monday."
In that case, I just picked up a new Cleveland HiBore driver, and it's well known that you should tee the ball lower for this driver to reach maximum efficiency. So how low should I tee it?
Posted by: Chillin | December 17, 2007 at 02:50 AM
probably a few inches under the ground since it will reach maximum efficiency that way...but I will let the experts answer that later today!

#5 SP, SD?
Posted by: The Third Giles | December 17, 2007 at 03:03 AM
"#5 SP, SD?"
David Wells, they will give him another shot after a physical reports that he only gained 10 lbs this offseason.
Posted by: Chillin | December 17, 2007 at 03:59 AM
giantsrainman,
if the white sox ever did that trade, i think there would be a line outside of US Cellular field waiting to take turns to slap kenny williams in the face. the sox are getting old fast, the last thing we need is a 60 year old corner OF with no power. Lowry is a nice player, but not worth konerko.
Posted by: trober81 | December 17, 2007 at 07:43 AM
What other moves will the Cubs make? Is a Brian Roberts trade still being pursued or did his name in the Mitchell Report make him less desirable to Hendry & Co? If not Roberts, is Orlando Hudson an option? Seems like the D-Backs may need to try and re-stock their system following the Haren trade and with Burke around to play 2nd, Hudson could be expendable.

Who do you predict will land the following free agents?
-Carlos Silva
-Bartolo Colon
-Matt Clement
-Kyle Lohse

The Cubbies are SO weak offensively up the middle. What do you see them doing before spring training to take care of the weak bats??
Posted by: pkkarate | December 17, 2007 at 08:16 AM
No offense Tim, but cant you just start a thread once a week for people to ask you questions? I dont want to start yet another email account that I wont use just to ask a question once in awhile.
Posted by: namesake49 | December 17, 2007 at 08:17 AM
I concur with namesake49. It would be much easier. That said, do you see the Angels making any more moves this offseason?
Posted by: rumorsrus | December 17, 2007 at 08:28 AM
You need to start a whole new email account just to ask Tim a question?
Yikes.
Posted by: JerseyMetFan | December 17, 2007 at 08:29 AM
I am sure the yanks would be interested in paul konerko, any chance for a paulie - hideki trade, everyone knows kenny likes aging outfielders, this would seem pretty possible to me. I'd imagine the yanks want to wait for santana to be traded or taken off the market before gettin rid of OFs
Posted by: whitesoxfan424 | December 17, 2007 at 08:45 AM
Where is Kenny Lofton looking to play this year? Will any team put him in CF?
Also, what teams are in the running for Otsuka? I can see him easily outperforming Gagne once again.
Which NL West position prospect is more likely to be dealt? Matt Kemp or Chase Headley?

Will major league hitters be able to hit the "gyroball"?
Posted by: worldcupfever | December 17, 2007 at 09:05 AM
I fell asleep a few weeks ago,is Kenny Williams still the GM of the White Sox? Or do they have a GM?
Posted by: Blutarski | December 17, 2007 at 09:18 AM
whitsoxfan: I was thinking the same thing. I think the Yanks would LOVE to make that swap, an aging but "capable" OF for an aging but "capable" 1B who could help Giambi with his leather allergy.
Posted by: jnr98 | December 17, 2007 at 09:18 AM
what does matsui offer to the sox? they already have an "aging but capable" RF and a young LF with potential. theres no reason to trade for matsui.

"Do you think the WhiteSox would consider trading Konerko to the Giants for Randy Winn and Noah Lowry? If such a trade were to happen how would you rate the trade for both the Giants and the WhiteSox?"
That would be a bad trade for the Giants.

HeyBlueJay,
Still sad you didn't get Lincecum?
Posted by: zito4cyyoung | December 17, 2007 at 09:46 AM
People are actually much more likely to shoot off an email than leave a comment. Every reader has an email address. I don't use the email addresses for anything.
Another note, not really taking mailbag questions from the comments.

Casper310,
Your Dodger offer for Bedard is laughable. A true #1 ace, Cy Young candidate for a pile of odds and ends? Silly.
I doubt that the Dodgers would want Bedard now with Kuroda signed. But it definitely would have taken Kemp or Kershaw and probabably both.
What makes you think that the Orioles are on a clock with Bedard?? They have him for two more years. He can be traded at the trade deadline this year, or December next year. Personally, if I were Andy McPhail, I'd rather take the draft picks than what you suggested.
Posted by: delaware_bird | December 17, 2007 at 10:23 AM
"Will the Mets go out and get an ace for the rotation or are they just going to waste the season with what they have? Enquiring minds want to know!"
Darnit, another one tricked by the NY media. I have been hearing that the Mets have needed an ace ever since Ihave started to watch baseball. I dont care what anybody says, lack of an ace did was not the reason for our loss to the Cards in 06, or the epic collapse of 07. We are goin to war with what we have. Nobody in their right mind would gut their own farm system and then hand out a 7 or 8 year contract at 20 mil per. Which makes Johans likely destination the bronx.
Posted by: nrmax88 | December 17, 2007 at 02:21 PM
The mets are not in any worse shape then any other NL East team in terms of starting pitching, but the NY media, and I guess just baseball media in general whine about how they need an ace. So all the fans buy into it. These are the same people who bashed Omar for not pursuing Zito hard enough. Hamels and Myers, and Smoltz and Huddie may be better then the Mets top 2, but I will take Duque and Perez over James/Reyes or Moyer/Eaton every single day. Also, if Pedro doesnt get hurt again, he has shown he can be at the very worst a number 3 guy. He still might post a sub 3.50 year in 08, which is a solid number 2 these days. I would be fine with a guy who will eat some innings and save the bullpen. As much as I would be thrilled to see Johan in a Mets uniform, the price is too steep imo.
" I dont care what anybody says, lack of an ace did was not the reason "
Sorry about the "did was not" thing. I guess I couldnt decide if I was going to say "did not cost the mets", or "was not the reason for their collapse". and I just sort of mixed them into once sentence.
Posted by: nrmax88 | December 17, 2007 at 02:29 PM
"That would be a bad trade for the Giants."
If by bad, you mean trading an overated not above average Randy Winn and an overated number 5 started with absolutely no upside for a GG 1B with power, then yeah, it would suck. Either way, the Giants still suck. You make it sound like Winn and Lowry are world beaters though. I would be surprised if anybodyu would give up any value for either of those guys. Atleast that would give the Giants ONE good position player.
Posted by: nrmax88 | December 17, 2007 at 02:36 PM
You would rather have draft picks then Meloan/Elbert/ and your choice out of one of those other guys? Not sure. I like Meloan and Elbert a lot though, so maybe I am just biased. I would rather have those players then the picks.
Posted by: nrmax88 | December 17, 2007 at 02:39 PM
Nrmax88,
Elbert is coming off an injury and Meloan is a relief pitcher.
Before the Orioles worry about relief pitching, they need positional players and starting pitching.
I like both those pitchers too by the way. Meloan is very nice. Elbert might be good (being L handed always helps). But give me the two draft picks to chose exactly who I want and what position.
The Orioles are in a position to demand exactly what they want with Bedard. Plus there ARE other offers out there. Seattle is offering Adam Jones, which is better for the Orioles than Elbert and Meloan together.
Heck MacPhail might just say "You know what? I'll retest Erik Bedard's value at the trade deadline when he is on his way to winning a Cy Young award."
There is no rush.

Paul Konerko is a run producer and a clutch performer. The White sox would never make that Winn/Lowry trade. An aging outfielder, and a 4th starter for someone like Konerko who is a fan favorite, hits 35+ homers, drives in 100+ ribbies, and comes through in the playoffs. Maybe we will listen to Crede offers but there would be no match for Konerko.
