aaron miles for tavarez, lol?

In May and June, Tavarez as at his best as a starter, it was his only time as a full time starter, where he had stamina built up (he had about a weeks warning in spring before the season started, first appearences were low pitch count) - June onwards he was more of a spot starter.
Anyway, May and June, in the AL he went 4-3, 3.64 ERA, including a quality start loss to Santana.
That makes an interesting option for a NL club, if Pineiro could become servicable in the NL Central.. Tavarez isn't actually a bad option.
Further thought, the fact we are talking about this really shows the bad state of the NL, the fact that guys who are not good enough for an AL bullpen, can make it fine as a NL 4th starter...

At this point, why wouldn't the Marlins trade Gregg? he should fetch something decent, they have some interesting young arms in their bullpen.

I'd just like to state that I was way ahead of reporters on the Tavarez-to-the-NL-as-a-starter thing. I suggested it back on Nov. 6 in this post (2/3 of the way down):

I wonder if a Ryan Freel for Julian Tavarez deal could go down?
Freel is a fine bench player ( SUPER SUB ) and Tavarez could be the Reds 5.

I know the Cubs probably have no interest in him, but I would like to see Tavarez come back to the Cubs and be a 5th starter along with Marshall on occasion. Tavarez is the fiery type which the Cubs need, and he also keeps a light mood on the team with his sense of humor.
Who would I trade for him? Lets see. Ronny Cedano straight up I hope. If not, Cedano and Dempster. If not then, Cedano and a B type minor leaguer. But thats it. And Im high on Cedano which is why I think straight up is fair.

Wasn't Tavarez in the proposal (with Mike Lowell) for the Helton trade last summer?

Does a Tavarez for Fuentes type of deal sound right?
I know the Red Sox expressed interest in Fuentes.

Trade Gregg for more league-minimum players! Maybe the Fish could actually shoot for the lowest payroll ever since the end of the reserve clause!

Tim,
How about Jeff Baker for Julian Tavarez?
The Sox are looking for a 1B/3B/corner OF-type to replace Hinske, and Baker fits the bill while offering some pop off the bench. Meanwhile, Baker is among a glut of Rox bench players who are virtually all blocked on the depth chart.
Just my take.

I'm just wondering, was that 'post-haste!' another Simpson's reference? When Mr. Burns shows up at the Kwik-e-mart with his old car and says something like: "Fill it up with petroleum distillate" then something else, then "post-haste!"
I think Tim knows what I'm getting at.

See, this is why I hate the Hot Stove as much as I love it. at 9:22am we have a "confirmed" interest; less than 4 hours later that interest is denied. Basically, this is pure, undeniable proof that until ink is on contract, nothing that anyone says can be believed.

Ummmmm. January 2007, everyone and their mother.
He might want to be traded, and it might be the nice thing to grant his wish but damn it if I'd let that complete nutbag leave without some serious compensation. Not only does his on the field performance have to be replaced, but who is going to punch people in the face during spring training games? Who is going to sit in the dugout and have their shaved head pet by Manny causing announcers to giggle uncontrollably for an inning and half? Julian that stunning adonis that he is, is irreplacable.

Julian Tavarez is what Kevin Millar would be if he used to have a healthy angel dust habit.
Posted by: ArodSucksAtLife | December 05, 2007 at 01:32 PM
socalcolonel7, I don't really see the "pop" from Baker. I mean, he hit .222/.296/.347 with only 8 XBH in 144 AB last year.
crunch17, doyou think the Rox would give up Fuentes for Tavarez? It seems a bit low to me. But if they'd do it I think it would help both teams.
Posted by: metafrantic | December 05, 2007 at 01:34 PM
ArodSucksAtLife, I meant this postseason (about Tavarez). I've been searching for any mention of it since around when the WS ended, and just now we're seeing it mentioned in print.
And I beg to differ; Julian could totally be replaced. the Sox just need to get Delmon YOung tossed into the Santana deal, and they've got their bat-chucking goodness right there.
Posted by: metafrantic | December 05, 2007 at 01:37 PM
metafrantic, i wrote that before i looked up contracts because i would assume rox might want another player. but fuentes and tavarez contracts are pretty much identical
Arodsucksatlife, if tavarez leaves, dicek needs a new best friend!!
Posted by: crunch17 | December 05, 2007 at 01:42 PM
to arodsucksatlife and metafrantic.
sox could just go and sign jose offerman O WAIT isnt he still in jail?
Posted by: crunch17 | December 05, 2007 at 01:44 PM
Offerman would be perfect except for two things:
1) the whole "behind bars" thing.
2) unlike Offerman, Young and Tavarez both actually have some value as baseball players.

well i guess your right. that day he hit the catcher and the pitcher was his first multi-hit game in years
