| Rangers Trade Volquez For Hamilton »
By Tim Dierkes [December 21, 2007 at 3:16pm CST]
MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan has all the latest hot stove buzz around the Rangers.
- The Rangers are nearing a deal with Eddie Guardado. Everyday Eddie might be a dark horse to close, if he can flash his late season form again. The Reds decided in October that he was not worth $3.5MM, and declined his option. Guardado is 37.
- The Rangers hope to add some kind of veteran starter. Bartolo Colon and Jason Jennings are still options, but Mark Prior and Freddy Garcia pretty much are not. Sullivan names Mike Maroth, Mark Hendrickson, and Josh Towers as pitchers of interest.
- Mike Cameron could be an option for center field if he'll take a one-year deal. A multiyear demand would also take the Rangers out of the running for Corey Patterson.
- Sullivan notes that the Reds want Edinson Volzquez for Josh Hamilton, a possibility he first mentioned three weeks ago. Jamey Newberg doesn't think Volquez would cut it. Other trade options could include Andre Ethier, Coco Crisp, and Juan Pierre.
- The Rangers will pass on a Kevin Mench reunion.
If the Red Sawks, trade Crisp, then they would pretty much be out of the Santana sweepstakes? I can't see them trading Crisp and Elsbury and I dont see the Twins taking anything less than Elsbury, Lester, and a few prospects.
I would think that if its Pierre they could trade a bag of West Texas Sand as long as they ate the contract.

Let's see...
The Rangers' continued dumpster diving to fill out their roster appears to have turned up the following: has been, spare, injured, has been, injured, and spare IMO. They'll be well on their way to their stated goal of competing in 2009 with that group. I'm sure the Angels are just shaking in fear of a lineup featuring Marlon Byrd batting cleanup.
John Daniels/Hart(yes, him-the advisor) have become paralyzed with fear after the Chris Young + Adrian Gonzales trade (which, with Otsuka now gone has netted the team a big fat zero). This is why Laird is still a Ranger (why else is he still there with Salty?), and why the Rangers couldn't at least get Milledge from the Mets for the wasteland that is the Rangers OF. I mean seriously - Milton Bradley immediately became their best OF. Now JD is afraid to lose a trade involving another young pitcher for a young OF. He appears to think he has to win every trade.
However, if their scouting hasn't improved any since the Young/Gonzalez trade, maybe they're better off not making any more trades.

Mike Cameron would be an idiot take a I year offer from the Rangers. He was offered a minimum of 2 with the Padres and they're contenders. And all of this after the 25 game suspension. Geez Mike, looks like you may get left out in the dark.

It's agreed upon according to the Dallas Morning News:

"The Rangers, sources confirmed, have agreed to send Volquez and minor league pitcher Daniel Herrera to Cincinnati for power-hitting Josh Hamilton"
