| Brewers Near Deal With Gagne »

Ken Rosenthal has a new column up.
- The Angels are telling teams they will only consider trading Chone Figgins if they find a third baseman. If Figgins does hit the market, figure on the Cubs getting involved.
- The Marlins offered Scott Nestor to the Phillies for Wes Helms, if the Phils paid $1.8MM of the $2.9MM owed to the third baseman. The Phils passed.
- Jeremy Affeldt already has a four-year offer in hand, so he's now looking for five years. Jeez. Teams known to be in on Affeldt: the Yankees, Rays, and Astros. Affeldt's agent has contacted the Mariners, trying to sell him as a starter. He grew up in Washington state.
- The Mets like the Pirates' Damaso Marte, if the Pirates lessen their demands. The Yankees, Phillies, Braves, and Astros are interested as well.
Joe Crede is available for 3rd base, wonder if the Angels and White Sox will talk? I commented on the Brewers Gagne posts that the Sox are looking to move him and the daily herald speculates a major trade involving Crede could be imminent.

Crede for Willits or MAYBE even GMJ???
Posted by: maximumpotential | December 08, 2007 at 09:11 PM
I know the White Sox think highly of a Willits type player, my only concern would be if Kenny Williams would ask too much for Crede. If he was traded after 05 and 06 season I feel it could have been a 3 for 1 type deal. This year not so much. An ideal move for both side would be Willits and a middle market reliever for Crede. I like Crede and he has been one of my favorites on the southside where I am from for a while but with Fields lurking in the wings it may be time to say goodbye. I wouldn't think the Sox would want to deal with GMJ's contract either....

Would DeRosa and Cedeno be enough or have I been sipping too much eggnog? If not Cedeno... Murton or Marshall? Wow... another crazy dreamin' Cub fan thought... Add: Fukudome, Roberts AND Figgins. Say Goodbye: Marshall, Murton, Patterson, DeRosa, Pie, Veal. Any thoughts?

And yes, I realize Fukudome is a FA, but could the other two be had for the bounty of the other listed...

Can Figgins play SS? For that matter can Crede play SS??? Either one would look good in the new lineup on the way for the Cubs. What would we have to give up to get either one?

Jeremy Affeldt wants a five year contract.
The world is officially coming to an end.

Angels get Cedeno, Prior, Patterson
#2

Orioles get Gallagher, Murton, Veal

White Sox get Marquis, Dempster, Marshall, Ascanio
Any thougts--maybe I one too many miller lites

#1 = not enough for the Angels. I have heard loose rumors that the Angels would want ARam and there is no way in hell Figgins is worth Ramirez.
#2 = throw in Prior OR Hill
#3 = out of luck since Crede is only a 3rd basemen. Kenny Williams would probably ask for Marshall, Pie, Vitters(last years draft pick i think thats who it was) and maybe another young arm.
The most ideal fit I see for Crede would be to the Angels straight up for Figgins, since the Sox need a leadoff guy and speedster while the Angels need a 3rd basemen and another bat. They both are injured often enough so its not really win win or lose lose.

ya I was asking before if Crede placed SS
#2 Hill is already said to be untouchable...The trade was Gallagher, Murton and one other position player that I think they were talking about I heard veal or Colvin
Yes Vitters was the first pick

I can't see the Orioles letting Roberts go that easily....unless they know something about the Mitchell report or a nagging injury but those 2 are HIGHLY unlikely. I thought it would have been a steal if the Cubs could have traded Murton for Teahen. I think Bal needs pitching so if they indeed decide on Veal then I think it could be a done deal.

I just know the cubs aren't going to give up Pie or Hill for Roberts a guy that is starting to get old when we already have DeRosa who is going to be just fine.

Hope the White Sox can work something out I think figgins would be a great fit with the sox we already dealt with the angels once this offseason and something could be cooking again

Figgins/Crede would be nice for the Sox sign Rowand for CF put Figgins in LF
Posted by: maximumpotential | December 09, 2007 at 12:24 AM
Crede at SS. Crede, with a bad back, who plays 3rd base...at short. No.
The Cubs trying to get Figgins and/or Roberts in trades will be hard. It will be hard for any team. The Orioles, Angels and Rays (other than the recent splash) are the harder teams to make trades with at all. Angelos and Moreno like keeping good talent and signing free agents. We'll see.

Figgins for Rolen??
Posted by: | December 09, 2007 at 01:55 AM
Kenny Williams likes to be secretive. He outraged at the media for "foiling" his targets. Everyone here in Chicago wants Rowand back and we all know he wants to be back. Its all about the $$. His best friends in the world are Crede and Brian Anderson. I would take Willits or Figgins. For the last 3 years I have heard rumors of Carl Crawford coming to either Chicago team and that will never happen. Honestly I think if one Chicago team signs Fukudome, the other will go after Figgins, I believe the Cubs will get Fukudome as they will never trade ARam for Figgins straight up. If this was 2 or 3 years down the line and Josh Vitters was conditioned for the major leagues i think there would be no question the Cubs pull the trigger.

Anyone have an idea what the Marlins are looking to keep their payroll at this year? $1M or less?
Posted by: nmw25tmc | December 09, 2007 at 03:00 AM
because the last time they did it. They turned out a ton of legit players. Then everyone threw money at them to get the once "young prospects". I look at Florida like a AAAA baseball team. Yeah I said it quadruple A. In between triple a and the majors

I still say that Figgins to the Jays for Glaus straight up is a good deal for both clubs.
Glaus provides that big bat to protect Guerrero in the line-up and his foot should be 100% after having the surgery at the end of this year. Glaus would undoubtably waive his no trade clause to get back to the west coast and play for a winner and he has just been cleared of all steroid allegations.
Figgins is just what the Jays need in their line up, a scrappy high on-base percentage guy who can steal bases. Pairing him with Reed Johnson at the top of the line-up would create ample RBI opportunities for Rios, Thomas, Wells & Overbay. Plus figgins could spell Johnson of lead off duties when the jays want to platoon him for Matt Stairs. This would also save the jays $13 million a year for the next 2-3 years that they can use to replace Glause's bat or go after more pitching to compete in the AL east.
