The Mitchell Report

1:06pm: Jon Heyman names a slew of guys in the report.  The Mitchell Report itself is available here.  Start reading!  Wow, this thing is loaded with surprises.  Kind of cool to see the emails Mitchell was able to collect among front office guys.

11:11am: More on last night's cut n' paste misspelled list - WNBC talked to a "high-ranking MLB official" who refuted several names on it.

10:51am: This is odd, WNBC/CNBC is rolling with the same cut n' pasted misspelled list.  Hey look, Troy Glaus is in there twice!  MetsBlog checks in with buzz that the Klapisch note about the Mets being safe may not be true.

10:25am: A list with a bunch of fairly believable names (many of them misspelled) in the form of one big paragraph has been passed around the Internet since at least last night.  There's no indication it has any legitimacy (no need to email it to me).  Deadspin has published said list.

10:04am: The New York Daily News is also saying Pettitte is in the report.  But those Grimsley names were revealed in October of last year so I'm not sure what the hubbub is about.

9:20am: ESPN is reporting Roger Clemens is in the report.  Clemens was named in the Jason Grimsley affidavit, anyway.  So were Andy Pettitte, Miguel Tejada, Brian Roberts, Jay Gibbons, and David Segui.

9:09am: The latest is from Bob Klapisch, who reports that no Mets on the current 40-man roster are in the report.  So people can stop randomly throwing Carlos Delgado's name about.  Klapisch is on board with my tip that the Yanks will be hit hard.

Received this list from a reliably un-reliable source who has sources inside an office with desks and computers. This list will cause controversy:

Mark McGwire, Cool Papa Bell, Albert Belle, Ernie Banks, Sammy Sosa, Mike Greenwell, Richie Ashburn, Barry Bonds, Mordecai "Three Finger" Brown, Jim Palmer, Jason Grimsley, Alvaro Espinoza, Glen Allen-Hill, Earl Weaver, Gary Sheffield, Orlando Cepeda, John Smiley, Tony Perez, Addie Joss, Andy Van Slyke, Lefty Gomez, Josh Gibson, Mo Vaughn, Troy Glaus, Orlando Cepeda, Roger Bresnahan, Sammy Sosa, Jack Chesbro, Mike Stanley, Todd Van Poppel, Willie Keeler, Robin Yount, Chris Sabo, Jason Giambi, Jeremy Giambi, Jose Canseco, Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte, Dale Berra, Aaron Boone, Bret Boone, Bob Boone, Ray Boone, Steve Balboni

Alright now this leaked info on Pettite/Clemens is a "source" who had a portion of the report read to him, that says Pettite/Clemens personal trainer told Mitchell he sold them both steroids. Not a person who worked on the report, not the trainer himself. Hope this turns out to be crap.

It's like a my girlfriends, brother's ex's sister's uncle read something this one time that said Abe Lincoln had 4 testicles.

Not backing up the Yanks or any other team, but why would mitchell want to hurt his own franchise the Red Sox?? Shouldn't surprise anyone that there are hardly any red sox named on the report. One reason for having so many yankee names could also be the fact that the ONLY players actually forced to discuss and rat their team mates are grimsley and giambi, so of course there would be yankee names. But I wouldn't doubt that mitchell gave the yanks a lot more interest than other teams.

Just reported that Mario Mendoza is on the list too....

Moxmox - Sabo!?!1 Dammit, I knew those RecSpecs were so his head wouldn't expand.

moxmox,

Steve Balboni is a man of great character, dignity and grace, How dare you dirty his impeccable reputation.

rumor has it that ronny "woo woo" wickers is gonna be on the list. he has been noticeably louder and faster with his "cubs woo" chants....

"Mark McGwire, Cool Papa Bell, Albert Belle, Ernie Banks, Sammy Sosa, Mike Greenwell, Richie Ashburn, Barry Bonds, Mordecai "Three Finger" Brown, Jim Palmer, Jason Grimsley, Alvaro Espinoza, Glen Allen-Hill, Earl Weaver, Gary Sheffield, Orlando Cepeda, John Smiley, Tony Perez, Addie Joss, Andy Van Slyke, Lefty Gomez, Josh Gibson, Mo Vaughn, Troy Glaus, Orlando Cepeda, Roger Bresnahan, Sammy Sosa, Jack Chesbro, Mike Stanley, Todd Van Poppel, Willie Keeler, Robin Yount, Chris Sabo, Jason Giambi, Jeremy Giambi, Jose Canseco, Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte, Dale Berra, Aaron Boone, Bret Boone, Bob Boone, Ray Boone, Steve Balboni"

This is the best list yet. Mordecai Brown? Awesome.

This is confirmed. Mike LaValliere is on the list.

They've said that the two main points that Mitchell is drawing on are the Jason Grimsley info, and the Mets clubhouse attendent. So expecting a bunch of guys from a lot of teams would be silly. How many Minnesota Twins do you expect to be named by a Mets guy and Jason Grimsley.

not spanky!!!! NOOO!!!

Clemens started taking in `98, from Jeremy Schaap.

Shhh everyone be quiet.

Here it comes.

heres the report

I WAS happy that we had picked up Lo Duca, now he is a blight on our team. Is it too late? Can we fire him? I'd rather have a COMPLETELY inexperianced rookie than a cheater on the team...

what page has all the names on it? or does the actual report not have that?

someone help me out....

i got this list from my buddy who watches baseball, mostly baseball movies. pretty serious stuff.

Brady Anderson, Manny Alexander, Rick Ankiel, Jeff Bagwell, Barry Bonds, Aaron Boone, Rafaeil Bettancourt, Bret Boone, Milton Bradley, David Bell, Dante Bichette, Albert Belle, Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd, Paul Byrd, Wil Cordero, Ken Caminiti, Mike Cameron, Ramon Castro, Jose and Ozzie Canseco, Pedro Cerrano, Roger Clemens, Paxton Crawford, Wilson Delgado, Lenny Dykstra, Johnny Damon, Roger Dorn, David Eckstein, Carl Everett, Kyle Farnsworth, Ryan Franklin, Troy Glaus, Rich Garces, Jason Grimsley, Troy Glaus, Juan Gonzalez, Eric Gagne, Nomar Garciaparra, Jason Giambi, Jeremy Giambi, Jose Guillen, Jay Gibbons, Pedro Gomez, Juan Gonzalez, Willie Mays Hayes, Clay Hensley, Jerry Hairston, Felix Heredia, Jr., Darren Holmes, Steve Howe, Marion Jones, Wally Joyner, Darryl Kile, Matt Lawton, Raul Mondesi, Mark McGwire, Guillermo Mota, Robert Machado, Damian Moss, Abraham Nunez, Trot Nixon, Jose Offerman, Enrico Palatzo, Andy Pettitte, Mark Prior, Neifi Perez, Rafael Palmiero, Albert Pujols, Brian Roberts, Juan Rincon, John Rocker, Pudge Rodriguez, Sammy Sosa, Scott Schoenweiis, David Segui, Alex Sanchez, Gary Sheffield, Isuro Tanaka, Brian Taylor, Jake Taylor, Miguel Tejada, Julian Tavarez, Fernando Tatis, Maurice Vaughn, Rick "Wild Thing" Vaughn, Jason Varitek, Ismael Valdez, Juan Valdez, Matt Williams Kerry Wood and Anthony Young.

it doesn't just have a list of names, but page 145 starts a segment that will bold a player's name and then go into detail about the evidence against them

The report also names Rick Reuschel and John Candelaria.

Page 822, para 2: Bob Sheppard and Mel Allen, on the list.

Why do people who aren't funny think they are funny?

Not really amazed or shocked by anything...although surprised to see Mo Vaughn on there...maybe he was injecting it into his esophagaus so he take food down faster. I think Brian Roberts and Pettite were the only big name current players that have not been previously linked.

Pettitte had come up before. Roberts should come as no suprise. Want a suprise? Nook Logan??? ...the guy couldn't punch his way out of a paper bag.

Thanks Johnny Carson.

Hmmm...I'm suprised by the lack of big names

Don't quit your day job.

The list has all the people Mitchell was able to find information on. I wonder how many others escaped the Mitchell Report.

So uhh, where are these prominent Yankees? The only one nobody knew about was Mike Stanton.

I love how Larry Bigbie has like 5 paragraphs dedicated about him.

I made a searchable text version of the Mitchell Report

http://www.drodd.com/html3/mitchell-report.html

Yeah, pretty boring stuff here, just a recap of news we've already heard.

Why would Heyman list all ex-Yankees and not include Kevin Brown, who is listed later on?

Yeah, pretty dissapointing if you ask me. Although it's nice to finally get confirmation on those that have been rumored, such as Gagne, Clemens, Pettite, etc.

yawn.....nothing new here.

I think the point isn't which teams were more affected than others. You can't cherrypick this stuff. It was basically league wide. The public isn't going to allow specific finger pointing to resolve this. They're going to use a big brush to paint all players. This is going to be really bad for baseball.

Who are the real Villains in this the players or owners? One reported ask a owner if one of his player was off steriods now there was testing, the response from the owner was the player didn't care enough
to take steriods.
I there is to be punishment
the let it be across the board....Owners .. players..and if this took place on your watch Commisioner are you ready to step down????? Lets move ahead and agree on testing,

I was scanning totallysuperawesome's list and for a sec I saw

Jeremy Giambi, Jose Guillen, Jay Gibbons, Pedro Gomez, Juan Gonzalez, WILLIE MAYES Hayes, Clay Hensley, Jerry Hairston, Felix Heredia, Jr., Darren Holmes, Steve Howe,

and I thought "wow they did dig deep. I never would have thought" then I saw Hayes on the next line
