I just joined Jeff Joyce on the MLB Home Plate show. It was a good time.
I was alerted to the station's blog, which showcases some interesting quotes from players they've had on the show. Check out this entry from Kyle Lohse's appearance. Lohse says he's down to about three clubs, and admits that the availability of Johan Santana and Erik Bedard has slowed things down for him.

Kyle Lohse mentioned in the same breath as Santana and Bedard... sad. It's pretty miserable when the mediocrity that is Kyle Lohse gets to choose from a wide variety of options. He should be begging for a two year, $8 million deal; instead he'll get 4 years, 32 million.

You are underestimating Scott Boras... I bet he gets closer to Silva money.

Perhaps the fact that Kyle Lohse is Kyle Lohse is what's slowed things down for him.

I’m with Tyler here, and that quote is bound to be something Boras has filled his head with ~ ie probably a load of bull in the “talk trash up to the point it is compared to gold” fashion he usually tries. Wasn’t he telling some team that they wouldnt make the playoffs without Weaver or something nuts like that…

I belt is the team who offers Loshe the most money. Probally a team like the Yankees with their bottomless pockets migth be one of the teams.

Ya know what? Kyle Lohse really sucks. He's not even nearly worth Silva or Meche money.

Lohse actually did pitch pretty well for the Phils during their playoff push. They did win 10 of his 13 starts.

Yeah, but he sucks. Look at his stats. He hasn't had one above average year in his career. His career ERA is almost 5. WHIP is over 1.4. Sucks.

I say it was the Mets, the Crdinals, and a mystery team.

I'll say Santana and Bedard are slowing things down for him. He'll get signed by someone, but he's no better than a 4th or 5th choice for most clubs, and it's not like the Yankees or BoSox want him at all.

he seemed to imply that he'd take less years to pitch for a better team. i think that's bc he's only being offered 3yrs. maybe the Mets get him for 3/36? he'd be nice to have around if/when Pedro/El Duque go down, and next year when they're gone

3/36? For Lohse? I think I just puked a little bit in my mouth. Im one of the people who thinks that Lohse can turn it around in the NL, especially at a park like Shea, but I would offer him 2/13 and say take it or leave it. Maybe throw in some incentives and an option for a 3rd year but you cant gauruntee him 3/36 when you dont even know whether or not he will be needed as a starter.

And with pedro, I think if he shows that he can be somewhat resemblant of the Pedro of old, that the Mets will resign him to a 2/34 type deal. Thats just my opinion though, Omar loves Pedro. He is one of those guys that actually does make a team better just by being in the clubhouse. The guys LOVE him, they really do you can see on his face how much he loves to play and it rubs off onto everyone. Plus it couldnt hurt to have him around for the younger guys, and he still is Pedro, even coming off rotator cuff surgery. He looked good last year in limited time, we will see if it holds up.

Gota love that 32/7 K/BB in his 28 innings of work last year, in his first 5 starts back.

Lohse is crap. It will amuse me if the Mets' big move to bounce back from the collapse is to sign Lohse.
How do you sell Lohse, anyway? "He can give you 180 innings of 4.30 ERA ball if he's pitching some place like Petco." Wow! And for only $11-13 million a year? Heck, where do I sign? The worst thing to happen to this guy was to get traded to the NL, now you can't even use that BS "move to the NL and he'll be like Ted Lilly/Bronson Arroyo!" nonsense anymore.
