« Odds and Ends: Hendrickson, Soria, Sherrill | Main | Padres Looking For Corner OF Via Trade »
UPDATE, 1-16-08 at 10:39pm: ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that the Rangers have reached an agreement with Jennings for one year and $4MM. Another $4MM is possible in incentives. I like the price, and I wonder if this was one of those hometown discount situations.
FROM 1-11-08 at 12:09am:
According to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, the Rangers "appear to be closing in on" a deal with Jason Jennings. Grant says the last hurdle before a deal is struck with the 29 year-old might be a physical. Terms are not yet known. The Dallas native earned $5.5MM in 2007.
Jennings had surgery in late August to repair a torn flexor tendon in his elbow. He expects to be throwing by March 1st.

Jennings had two good years in colorado but has a career era of almost 5.00. I don't see that he'll be much different then the other guys they can throw out there. Arlington is like Colorado. He'll have another above 5.00 era.

true but most likely a low risk, high incentive contract. If he can get his sinker working effectly, he could be a No. 4 or 5 starter.

The Rangers need to be careful. There are certain costs associated with signing Jennings that are often overlooked. For example, the clubhouse food bills are going to skyrocket.

That was the deal of the century for the Rockies.

The Jennings deal was pretty much Prupura's ticket out the door.
I freaking hated that deal when it was made, and I still to. I could have done without Buchholz, but how you do give them Taveras and Hirsch too? Good lord.

I don't think it was a hometown discount; I think it was a fat, injured pitcher with a 6.5 ERA discount.
