Rockies To Sign Scott Podsednik

Tracy Ringolsby of the Rocky Mountain News reports that the Rockies are "finalizing details" on a minor league deal for outfielder Scott Podsednik.  The idea is to let Pods battle Cory Sullivan for the backup center field job in Spring Training.

Podsednik as an extra outfielder seems like a decent idea.  He may have been treated as a starter for a bit too long.

Ringolsby adds that the Rockies haven't made progress on a long-term deal with Brad Hawpe and will probably just ink him for one year for now.

Sounds like a great place for Pods to revive his career. It's a shame injuries ruined his time with the Sox cause when healthy he is VERY beneficial. Best of luck to him, another reason for me to like the Rockies.

Best of luck to Scotty. I appreciate everything he did for the ChiSox, and I hope he can do some good for Colorado.

extra outfielder...

Ryan Spilborghs
Cory Sullivan
Seth Smith
Jeff Baker

why Podsednik?

Pods in one of the most spacious CF in baseball?

Good luck with that.

Pods fell out of favor with his relentless injuries limiting his effectiveness and taking away his prime productive years. He won't be much more than a backup anymore.

nhahha good one colorado good luck with him

Wow, I missed this thread all day for some reason…

…Anyway, all I can say is ~ WHY??? Why would the Rocks want Pods, especially since they have Pods-2.0 already (Willy Taveras ~ the updated version that can field a bit)

I never understood the fascination with Podesdnik ~ horrible BA, horrible OBP, horrible SLG, bad fielder… Sure he can steal some bases, but that hardly even begins to make up for the other shortcomings…

Good move by the rockies. If he is healthy, he can be one of the most dangerous leadoff hitters in the game. You cannot teach speed.
