Lohse, Fogg On Orioles' Radar?
The Baltimore Sun's Roch Kubatko ponders the ugly state of the new Bedard-less Orioles rotation. He notes that the Orioles have spoken to the agents for Kyle Lohse and Steve Trachsel this winter.
On January 24th, the Sun's Jeff Zrebiec noted that Andy MacPhail had spoken to six or seven Scott Boras clients - Lohse, Ron Villone, and Corey Patterson among them. The impending acquisitions of George Sherrill and Adam Jones probably eliminate the need for Villone and Patterson. Zrebiec also said that the O's had preliminary discussions for Shawn Chacon and Trachsel, both of whom are still available.
Additionally, the Denver Post reported last night that the Orioles have interest in Josh Fogg. They may have to compete with the Twins for his services. Swapping Santana or Bedard out for Fogg or Lohse - that's a fan-pleaser. On the other hand, Joe Christensen refutes the notion that the Twins have interest in Fogg.

Of course, the Orioles could fill out that rotation with Jason Marquis or Ryan Dempster. Demp could even close! (heehee)

Yeah, Jay Payton sounds reasonable for Dempster. Or was that not what you were thinking? Gibbons?
By the way, the last line looks like it should say "refutes."

I could live with Marquis or Trachsel in the rotation. Lohse and Fogg are garbage.
We still have a decent (young) rotation with Guthrie, Loewen, Cabrera. We could probably trot out Olson and Albers if needs be. I think Penn deserves a shot to make the rotation, his baptism by fire two years ago was a bit ill-advised, and he could use some confidence.

I'll take a bag of balls for Payton and Gibbons.
I'll take Trachsel back, good guy and an innings eater. The big con: 8 hour games. Dude is soooo slow.
Frankly, I'd rather test out some of these young dudes over any reclamation projects or over the hill sacks like Fogg and Lohse.

How much will Fogg be paid as a free agent? Any guesses? I know he was paid 3.65 million last year, but how much of a pay increase is he bound to get?

And they were doing so well! Why are they looking to sign veteran pitchers now?

it's not a bad idea to have 1 veteran inning eater in the rotation with your young guys. i'm surprised the Nats aren't also looking at these guys.

I'd take one ball and a geriatric grounds keeper for Payton and Gibbons. Globalizer: I find it strange you list cabrera as part of a "decent young rotation" you know something we don't?
