Lowry Failing To Draw Interest

Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News discusses the Noah Lowry situation.  On the surface, a 27 year-old lefty who won 14 games with a sub-4.00 ERA would seem to be a hot commodity.  However, Baggarly says teams were scared off by Lowry's ugly 1.0 K/BB ratio and August elbow tenderness.  Lowry's on the hook for $2.25MM in '08 and $4.25MM in '09, with a 2010 club option for $6.25MM.

Baggarly notes that the Giants "remain active in trade talks."  Given that it's 2008 and not 1988, Brian Sabean isn't going to fleece any GM based on Lowry's win total or ERA. I'm starting to think that a trade for Joe Crede straight up might be fair, after all.

Very good. That made me laugh very hard.

Don't forget that there is still someone called Ned Colletti, and by the looks of his moustache he still thinks it's 1983.

Lowry for LaRoche would be a good laugh. Impossible, but still funny. :)

*Should* be impossible. Nomar comes out raking to start the spring, Schmidt has to get shut down for a bit ...

Good. We can keep our starting 5 intact.

Shouldn't 14 wins and sub 4 era on a last place team be a pretty impressive feat? His K:BB was ugly in '07, but in '05 it was 2.26.

I'll give em that the injury history is a red flag, but if I'm Sabean, I hang onto him.

Given that it's 2008 and not 1988, you don't deal young starting pitching for cheap. But then again, this is the giants we're talking about. Take some lessons from my boys across the bay Sabean!

Hey, even Nolan Ryan had a few seasons with a K/BB near 1.0... of course he also had a K/9 of around 10.0, but still. :)

I don't buy it. All the GM's are selling wolf tickets to deplete his value. He wins games, bar none.

^That doesn't really make sense, what you just said, "bar none"... but anyway, wins are a terrible way to evaluate a player, which you obviously don't know how to do. Anyone can win games with the right run support, and Lowry was obviously lucky. We've been over this. And what does selling wolf tickets mean?

So the Giants assume the risk that he is healthy for a few months. The Giants would like to move him but at this point they don’t need to move him. No big deal. The big deal is so far Sabean is not letting his past trade templates , I.E. the A.J. & Hillenbrand trades, govern what he will settle for with Lowry.

As a Crede-loving Sox fan, I would love to see that move for Chicago. His remaining contract isn't bad at all for a semi-solid starter. Not to mention, the Sox would instantly free up $2.5 million in salary difference between Crede and Lowry.

I should tack on that I don't think it would be a one-sided trade. I have faith Crede will be a good producer wherever he plays.

That’s nice you have faith in Crede. Considering he will probably be playing for your team ( unless your G.M. Swaps him for an equally long term worthless contract) it’s important. He was a key part of your ‘05 post season so enjoy him while you can.

finaly sum1 doesnt try bringing down crede

Equally long term worthless contract? 1yr $5.1 million long term and worthless? that makes no sense.

Either way, the sox should try to rebuild.

no they should not there good except for our rotation

Noah Lowry is crap. Look at his K/BB ratio. Look at his home/road splits. Look at his WHIP. "He wins games" was the explanation people gave as to why it was smart for Arizona to sign Russ Ortiz.

Noah Lowry is the new Kirk Reuter.
