« Cubs Still Talking To Rangers About Byrd | Main | A's Revive Talks For Crisp »
FRIDAY, 7:42pm: I have it on good authority that Ceda has not, in fact, been added to any kind of offer to Baltimore. With minor league games having begun today, the O's are still doing their due diligence. Dave van Dyck's sources agree that no deal is imminent.
FRIDAY, 7:13am: We've actually got some movement this morning on the Brian Roberts front. According to Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times, the Cubs have added hard-throwing 21 year-old reliever Jose Ceda to their offer. They'd also send Sean Gallagher, Ronny Cedeno, and Donald Veal to Baltimore. The Cubs had been holding out on Ceda, a nasty relief prospect. With him included, they'd be sending their three best pitching prospects (according to Baseball America) in the 4-for-1 deal.
Wittenmyer also notes that the deal could be expanded to a 5-for-2 with cash if Jason Marquis and Jay Payton are included. He believes a deal will get done before Opening Day, but it may go down to the wire.

Got censored on my last try. Whatever. I'm babbling anyway. (LOL) I DO think that if Dierkes wants to be taken seriously as anything more than a webmaster, he should reveal on WHOSE good authority he's heard this most recent update. He doesn't even have to name names...just give an idea as to why this person should command any more authority than the next poster. My concern isn't that Ceda's out, but rather that this site can sometimes- not always, just occasionally- feel like a Cubs fansite and I just want to make sure that this is legit and not a reaction AGAINST the previous rumor. If you've got sources, reference them: 'Sources inside the Cubs front office...' That kind of thing. Even Ndano references his sources and they're friggin' figments of his imagination.

At least now I can go back to hoping we get Colvin. I can't wait 'til this deal is done.

No Hill, Marmol, Pie, Soto, Colvin, Ceda, or '07 draftees will be involved.

On Tims defense, The Ceda thing was on ESPN and some other sites. So there is a source. I want this deal done. I do believe that is why Soriano was dropped from the lead off spot.

HOPEFULLY WE WILL GET ANOTHER UPDATE TODAY

If Tim is messing with us, he's got a pretty wide conspiracy going between ESPN, FoxSports, the Baltimore Sun, Chicago Trib, Chicago Sun-Times, etc. I guess he didn't quote his last source, it was the mysterious "good authority"...so maybe he is messing with us on that last one. We'll see soon enough. Opening day is approaching.

Remember that Tim just had his wisdom teeth pulled so the last post could have been the Vicodin talking. :-)

Haha, there is a source in the post now.

WhiteSoxFan,
That source doesn't refute the fact that Ceda was included in the deal. It's simply a source that indicates the deal isn't imminent.

Ya know, its not the first time something like this has been brought up…
Back in early Feb Tim had repeated an Onley report saying “confidence that at some point it gets done” (giving a link to an Insider report) but didn’t give the players he mentioned at all (which were Gallagher, Pie, Cedeno and Marshall). He then referenced a Stark article for the names ~ which were Gallagher & Cedeno and unknown.
The same day Rosenthal had a report out on it. Rosenthal starts his report saying “Roberts deal would be most logical next step”, and Tim references it for a quote stating “Cubs officials believe that a deal remains possible” ~ but doesn’t give us the whole paragraph:
“The Orioles and Cubs have spoken infrequently over the past several weeks, sources say, and while some Cubs officials believe that a deal remains possible, others aren't so sure. The Orioles are likely to insist on Pie, a player the Cubs are not willing to move in a package for Roberts ...”
Again, Pie is mentioned (even saying they would “insist on Pie”) but Tim didn’t relay that. Instead he just referenced his prior post on Onley (which he left off the names Onley mentioned, which included Pie) and Stark, giving us only the “Gallagher and Cedeno and ???” from Starks report. And why was Tim posting that Onley feels confident a deal will get done, but leave off the fact that Rosenthal talked to people inside both organizations hearing “remains possible, others aren't so sure” and “spoken infrequently over the past several weeks”? It was just strange, like he was only giving us information which a) suited the desires of certain fans (leaving Pie off an all) and b) led us to believe it was progressing, despite Rosenthal saying they weren’t really even talking to eachother (Onley felt that way, but that’s not backed up).
Maybe he is screwing with people :)

TIM LINKED TO AN ARTICLE SAYING CEDA WAS INVOLVED DARK! Can you read??? So he is just messing with all of us by doing what he has done ALL ALONG, which is saying what reporters that say they have a source are writing?? Come on, your paranoia borders on insanity. He links to everything he says...so just read and decide for yourself. If you want to have a mind of your own, READ AND DECIDE FOR YOURSELF.

Adun, you have issues like I cant believe…

Ok Mr. Paranoia....Tims just out to get us! Watch your back, he might even say Roberts AND Sherrill might be involved next...oh the nerve of that guy.

So...what the hell IS going on. BTW- hadn't checked in a couple days, but apparently not a whole lot of posts since then anyway, so...guess I didn't miss anything. The only comment I feel the need to react to is Dr. S.
Doc, if none of the names you listed are included, then I'm telling you, it's not likely that this deal is going to get done. I get that you're a Cubs fan and don't want to lose any potential future studs, but you gotta give to get and if NONE of those guys were to be included, I would almost guarantee McPhail shuts it down. What's the point? I don't know what the latest is or what the deal is with this last Ceda's in, now he's out thing, but I'm fairly confident that one way or another either he or Colvin will be a part of the finished deal. That's not fan-talk, but educated guesswork based on what we've been hearing and basic principles (that I've talked to death) of value/economics.

Anyone who says throw in Sherrill and MArmol cuz they are equal prospects is out of their mind. Sherrill will be 31 this spring he is definitly not a prospect. I would love to have him in the deal but definitly not for Marmol. I really hope the cubs can get Roberts (sherrill is nothing but a plus) but don't give up colvin, pie, MARMOL, and soto. I wouldn't give up Marmol for the whole Orioles team let alone Roberts.
