« Pedro Looking For Three Years? | Main | Blue Jays Sign Armando Benitez »
On Sunday evening, Ken Rosenthal wrote that Ron Belliard of the Nationals and Esteban German of the Royals were "attracting the Dodgers' interest."
However, Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star reports today that Royals' GM Dayton Moore has not been informed of any interest in German by the Dodgers. German is known for his .373 career OBP and his versatility, though Baseball Prospectus says he is "capable of playing second, third, and the outfield equally poorly."

Because we all know how truthful Dayton is with the media concerning these types of things...

yeah..i especially loved how Dayton denied any rumors involving Jose Guillen *HOURS* upon signing him.
Dayton Moore had the best quote I use in ANY translation of a rumor: "How does it benefit the better interest of the Royals to tell 29 other teams our plans."

What is German's trade value? I would guess the Royals would want a minor leaguer or player with option in return, would asking for Josh Bell be too much?
He didn't make BA's top 10 but baseballprospectus rated him 6th. It looks like Bell may have trouble staying at third even with a plus arm, is an outfield corner out of the question?

I hope they can work something out. The Royals don't need German and Callaspo. This would open up a roster spot for Shealy or Huber.

Dayton is a very secretive GM. I like the beer leaguers comment above.
German is a quality utility player who has succeeded when he has not been "over exposed". Ramon Troncoso would be a likely fit, seeing how Dayton is intent on stock piling pitching. DM's approach seems to fit the needs of this organization. Pitching is the currency in baseball.
I would not be surprised if over the next 2 or 3 years, DM's strategy will play out as follows:
Acquire Hitting in the draft (round 1).
Acquire pitching via trading major league players.
He seems to put a tremendous amount of faith in his scouts to find "sleeper" pitchers. The only time I see a deviation from this plan is if there is a legit no. 1 starter available in the draft.

The best option for the Dodger is probably Helms. The Phillies don't really want him (having Feliz and Dobbs) and Helms is fairly cheap.
