I would love to be a part of the chat but i am still in school at that time.Maybe you could think about making it later...

Nights may work better.
How exactly does it work?
Posted by: Jay107 | April 01, 2008 at 09:39 AM
Well, for my wife's sake I'd rather not work nights if I don't have to.
Plus, MLBTR's highest traffic is during the workday, by far.
Posted by: Tim Dierkes | April 01, 2008 at 10:16 AM
Do we have to tell you how to handle this with your wife, Tim? lol j/k
hm what's with all of us people at work slackin?? haha
Posted by: Jay107 | April 01, 2008 at 11:20 AM
Haha, it's for my sake too though...
Posted by: Tim Dierkes | April 01, 2008 at 12:11 PM
I would hate it if you did it at night, i work than... stupid people and their need for packages early in the morning...

I enjoyed that chat a lot, and it was a whole lot better than the first one. I think you got the balance of accepted questions right, and just the right length of response to keep it pacey but informative!
Posted by: Lockie | April 01, 2008 at 05:44 PM
Just out of curiosity, Tim, what qualifies you to answer people's questions regarding player performance? Have you been doing some scouting on the side that we don't know about?
Posted by: Drunk Cubs Fan | April 01, 2008 at 07:39 PM
I find it a stretch when someone goes from posting "found" information to the point where their personality starts dominating the proceedings and they start to come across as a tout.
Posted by: coryjwilson | April 01, 2008 at 09:24 PM
Drunk Cubs Fan, I have done a lot of work on projections over the past few years and run a fantasy baseball site. However, I don't make any claims about my qualifications vs. other people. I just answer questions I have a quick answer for.
Cory, I'm not too sure what you're talking about. But whatever you're trying to say, it seems to lack tact.
Posted by: Tim Dierkes | April 01, 2008 at 09:29 PM
Jeez guys. Tim runs a baseball rumor website, where he does have SOME inside info now and then. He runs a fantasy website (yes which he just stated), and has been at it for years. He's done a pretty damn good job, in no way saying "This is the way it'll be" about some players. Just like any ESPN announcer or your respective baseball teams' beat writer, he has opinions. Doesn't your beat writer have an email address that is available for you to email them and ask their opinions on whatever? Not only opinions, but he may inform someone of something that has been said or done that the person asking is not aware of, so Tim informs them of that. He does a real good job saying where he got his info from too.
Give him a break. He does a damn fine job at what he does. Let him continue that and not have to waste time on posts such as yours.

Tim, you do run a great site and I thank you for it. It makes it much easier to one-stop-shop for my transaction fix. What does annoy me has nothing to do with you at the moment. It's the people out there who talk about you like you are deity. How you respond to this adoration will determine the the future success or failure of MLBTR. It's like a band that has a hit sound and then messes with the formula to become basically a parody of themselves.
I view you as a guy who provides a service by collecting information. I'm really grateful for that. I'm jut not sure what qualifies you beyond that. That's not meant as a slight at all. My fear is all these worshippers that bow at your feet will blow your ego to the point where you are like Berry over at ESPN fantasy or like the arrogant blowhards over at ESPN.

Sir CoryJWilson,
Tim has a reputation proceeding him because of the quality of analysis he provides, whether it be on MLBTR or on player analysis for Rotoauthority, The Hardball Times, Rotowire, or any of the other fantasy baseball establishments that welcome his commentary. There is a reason why his following is what it is, and his attitude toward your comment was completely warranted. If you did your research before you made your comment, you'd know that Dierkes commentary is not based merely on found information, but his careful and articulate analysis of such. It's hard to real some of the crap on the internet from guys like Berry who speak of their "gut instincts" and offer little else. In no way is that true of the commentary Dierkes offers. He really does do a thorough job collecting, analyzing, compiling, and synthesizing and finally presenting new information, which is the reason why his sites are among the small handful I am able to rely upon. If you disagree, at least have the courtesy to back up what you say because your opinions seem baseless among those of us who are familiar with Dierkes' body of work.

"I prefer Dos Equis. No really, that's my fav. For some reason I like Mexican beers...Sol, Tecate, etc."
Pacifico, ftw.

Wow, I just read what I wrote again and I think it could get misconstrued as me being fresh, for lack of a better word, and that's not what I intended. I was trying to ask a legitimate question about Tim's baseball background. Sorry, Tim.
Posted by: Drunk Cubs Fan | April 02, 2008 at 03:04 PM
CoryJWilson,
If you find Tim is unqualified, you have a lot of options. You can:
- do your own research on Tim's qualifications and answer your own question.
- read his "found" info and ignore his analyis
- move on to another site you deem more valid
- remind yourself what a blog is
otherwise, your intention is still unclear besides apparent ax grinding.

finite24,
It's amazing you could pull your head from Tim's butt long enough to type that little spiel. Yes, it is "found" information. He is not originating news. So what if Roto sites and Hardball Times take his contributions.
Oh man....you said "Dierkes body of work." I'm sorry for insulting Hemingway. It's all very pretentious. Not "Dierkes" but you the Trekies that suckle at his teet.
How does one become a baseball progosticator? I'm guessing by having the loudest microphone. What are the success rates for their field. I think Ron Shandler said something to the effect that he was only close on projections 60% of the time. I'd venture to say that the average fan who is up to date is at 50%. If a surgeon was only 10% better than you at doing your operation would you go to him.
My point being that baseball "experts" are only experts because they CLAIM they are.

Tim's #1 bust for 2006
Alfonso Soriano....yeah what did he hit...46 long balls.
Wait....further on he says that the Twins compare Liriano to Santana but that Scott Baker is the real prize....
Rotoauthority welcomes his "quality analysis"....I'd certainly hope so since HE RUNS THAT SITE.
But...my beef isn't with him it's with you fan boys out there. I hope he puts out a poster so you can put it on the wall.
