« Red Sox Designate Snyder for Assignment | Main | Giants Interested In Nick Johnson? »
Last we checked, Barry Bonds was determined not to retire. Rangers beat writer Jim Reeves has this to say about the basher:
"Fact is, if the Rangers are somehow a surprise contender by midseason and Bonds is still out there... let me just suggest that the Bonds issue might well be revisited again by the powers that be at The Ballpark in Arlington."
Reeves is not advocating the signing. In fact, he's urging Rangers owner Tom Hicks not to bend when he responded to the question of signing Bonds with a vehement, "No way" that put this rumor to sleep almost a month ago. However, Rangers Manager Ron Washington is vocally in favor of bringing Bonds on board.
"'I'd do it,' Washington said. 'I would. I'm a Barry Bonds fan. I've always been a Barry Bonds fan... He's going to help you win a lot of ballgames. That's what it's all about ... He has his own attitude, but that don't bother me,' Washington said. 'The bottom line is what does he do for us between the lines?'"

There has been a few stories connecting Bonds to the Blue Jays lately as the big Left handed bat they desperately need.

Texas isn't interested huh? Of course, why should they be? Who needs Barry Bonds when you have...um...Frank Catalanotto. Texas is and always will be a terrible team.

I know they've said that they're not interested, but Seattly still makes perfect sense. JOSE VIDRO?

Steroids or not, Bonds is the best power hitter in the history of baseball. No one has ever been feared the way Bonds is. He has more intentional walks than any player in the history of baseball, i'm sure one of the highest OBP since joining the Giants, and in the AL where he can be used as a DH over Jason Giambi, Milton Bradley, and many other overpayed and unproductive dh's in baseball. If the Red Sox didn't have Ortiz for DH and Manny for Left, I would most certainly advocate them picking up the best slugger of all time. Texas, Tampa Bay, Toronto, Baltimore, and Oakland all need to get over themselves and make a good decision to make them playoff contenders, especially Tampa Bay and Toronto who have proven they have much stronger rosters this year than last year. Imagine a Toronto team with Thomas and Bonds as interchangeable dh's, maybe have bonds spend a little time in left or right. They would most certainly be a much more feared line-up that already contains many great sluggers, rios, wells, bonds, and thomas? Toronto I see as his best suiter.

Once the contenders become apparent, Bonds will end up somewhere, if for no other reason than to prevent someone else from signing him.

It is interesting how managers seem to be for Bonds while the higher ups keep shooting it down. I think they are scared to death of the backlash when people find out they knew about the steriod problem all along despite their best efforts to pretend otherwise.
