First of all, I always thought it was Bazardo. Second, something just hasn't been right with him this year. His dad died in Februaury and then his velocity has been way down. Basically, he has been getting lit up. I really thought the Tigers would try to go the DL route before releasing him.

Why not send him to AAA? Out of options? Even so, still doesn't make sense considering how thin they're staff is anyway.

Did Vargas sign with the Mets yet?

His name is Yorman Bazardo. He pitched well last year, but couldn't find his groove this season. He is out of minor league options.

Bazardo did very well last year but couldn't do well at all this year.
At this point the Tigers have to wonder if all of their trades were worth diminishing the pitching staff. I say this because Bazardo was basically replaced by Clay Rapada, which is definitely not a good thing. With the offense not producing, you have to wonder if the Jurrjens and Hernandez for Renteria was a mistake. Not that we can really make that judgment yet.
I hope that Corey come to DET just to add another arm.

The Jimerson designation is a crock. Just something for McClaren to do to try and mix things up after a bad start to the season. He said it himself. Something like he wanted to go with a "different look". I'm starting to think the guy isn't too bright. He hasn't used his bench at all this season so far and his big change is to swap bench players for no reason?
If anyone should have been DFA'd for Norton, it should have been Cairo. The guy is useless with Bloomquist around. In Jimerson's case, he was the fastest guy on the team and played plus defense at all three OF positions. McClaren's claim that he "never had the oppotunity to use him [Jimerson]" is another crock. Johnny Mac has yet to defensive sub for Raul Ibanez this year. Jimerson was perfect in that spot. What about Wilkerson's .056 line to start the season. Could have thrown Jimerson a start in RF as well.
But I guess McClaren sees the statuesque speed of Ibanez to be a plus late in close games. The windmill approach by Wilkerson is also apparently highly sought after. Geez.
Another funny thing. The Mariner's official site just did a writeup on Jimerson being the only African American on the Mariners squad and how he [Jimerson] thought it was a great honor for him to wear Jackie Robinson's number 42 next Tuesday. How Jimerson was looking forward to it. They did a full article on this... then... promptly release him..
Good grief. What a PR move there.

From the Mariners.com writeup...
"While stars like Griffey, Andruw Jones, Dontrelle Willis, Torii Hunter, Jermaine Dye, Derrek Lee, Mike Cameron, Gary Sheffield and, C.C. Sabathia honored Robinson by wearing No. 42 last season, Jimerson was at his home in Houston wishing he could have been doing the same thing.
Jimerson had been released by the Astros on March 30 and was out of work until May 1, when he signed a Minor League contract with the Mariners.
As he watched television coverage of Jackie Robinson Day '07, Jimerson said he remembers reflecting on the fact there are so few African-American players in the game and the number seems to be dwindling.
"It's a tough thing to talk about," he said.
Asked what he would say if he had a chance to sit down with Robinson, Jimerson said, "I would ask him about some of the things he went through that he had never talked about publicly. I think it would be very interesting, very enlightening."
Looks like he won't be around for it this year either. It would be nice if someone picked him up. I would prefer to keep him in the Mariners org. but he has no future here. His future was as a 4th OFer. He got ditched on that front.
