« Pirates Acquire Jason Michaels, Brewers Mull Turnbow | Main | Jays Targeting Wilkerson »
THURSDAY: According to Jamey Newberg, Broussard has been designated for assignment.
WEDNESDAY: Evan Grant's article from late last night implies that the Rangers could designate first baseman Ben Broussard when Marlon Byrd returns from the DL next week. Broussard has been pushed to the bench following 89 ugly plate appearances. He's earning $3.85MM this year. Grant has wondered whether a Broussard release would be paired with a Ron Washington firing.
Broussard, 31, was last effective in 2006 when he hit righties well. Still, for the minimum salary he's a low-risk bench addition. Broussard could be the first of many Rangers vets to depart. Grant suggests Frank Catalanotto and Gerald Laird would be nice fits for the Yankees. They probably wouldn't mind having Kevin Millwood, either.

It's worth releasing Broussard if it means that Washington is gone too.

I would have thought that Bud Black would be the first manager fired , and if you listen to NY sports talk radio Willie Randolph could be gone right after the yankee series.

I don't see reason for the Yankees to be interested in Laird.
Posada should only be out for a month, and he's signed to a 4 year contract. Jose Molina is signed through next season. If Posada was going to miss most of the season, sure, I'd see interest.
As for Millwood, he's not any good and signed for several more years for a decent chunk of money. I don't see why anyone would be interested in him.

Crazy that the rangers signed this guy for almost 4mill they could have had sean casey for 800,000. Or gotten hinske. Daniels also needs to go.

Living in Arlington, it's easy to see that nothing will change until Hicks sells. Biggest mistake of the year was choosing Washington over Trey Hillman. Hillman went to Arlington High School, then The University of Texas at Arlington and isn't the right man for The Rangers?
Let's compare Texas' and K.C.'s records after this season.

This might be a blessing for the Mets...

RoyalRooter-- sounds like a similar refrain that I hear around here about the O's-- they'll improve after Angelos sells.
Poor Rangers. I enjoyed them a lot when Ryan was there. Pudge & Juan Gone, etc. Where have those wonder years gone to?

Broussard was a good fit with the Mariners and could give Balentien a breather against tough righties occasionally, while doing the same with Sexson, if he continues to slump. Not to meantion Broussard is a defensive genius and can run as well as Miguel Cairo... Please Bavasi if you are reading this, get rid of Cairo and sign Broussard when he clears waivers!
