« Reds Podcast Appearance | Main | Free Agent Stock Watch: Rafael Furcal »
FRIDAY, 9:34am: It's official - Turnbow has been designated for assignment.
FRIDAY, 8:53am: Adam McCalvy says the Brewers will call up outfielder Joe Dillon today, leading to speculation that Turnbow will be designated.
THURSDAY: Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel wonders whether the Brewers will decide to eat Derrick Turnbow's $3.2MM salary and release him.
Not only is Turnbow unhappy, but he's been rocked in eight appearances this year. He probably needs a fresh start. I am not a fan of the "relief ERA" metric, but the Red Sox, Mariners, and Rangers fare poorly by it. In reality, there are probably a dozen teams that would like to try to straighten Turnbow out. Control, of course, is his main issue.

I'm hearing he's out by end of day today or tomorrow. Look for the dfa. Only question is whether or not they'll get an "organizational depth" player out of a deal.

Is it just me or is Turnbow's velocity down? I remember he was in the high 90's and could touch 100 before. Last night during the Cubs game he was throwing around 90-92. Anyone know what happened there?

He never really went over 97, and has been consistently 92-95 over the past couple years.
The Brewers might as well cut ties with him now. I know they're trying to get him in situations where he can succeed, but it clearly isn't working. Time for a change of scenery for Derrick.

Decent Peripherals, Poor Control...sounds like a Pat Gillick Reclamation Project to me.

The Braves need to seriously look at getting Turnbow in Atlanta

Yup, they DFA'd him this morning. It's too bad. I hope he clears waivers and can get back whatever he lost.

Someone will claim him quickly.

I agree that the braves should go after him. He has had past success, and maybe a new environment will still allow for him to get back at least some of his old success. I would not mind taking a flyer on him, even though I really would not be impacted either way. He could just be another Chris Resop as this point.

There are a ton of teams who could use this guy at league minimum. I could list off maybe 20 teams who could use him. I hope that gagne picks it up because I think turnbow could be at least that good.

Poor bastard. Went from being an '06 All Star in 2006 to getting DFA'd.

so lets say the braves pick him up...do the brewers get any kind of compensation? do we pay his full salary? i suck at these situations and the money issues if anyone could clear it up that would be awesome!

Haven't we seen this before. Maybe the Card's will sign him to play OF.

dont go for him braves! Dan Kolb 2.0! both had 39 saves for the brewers then fell apart. avoid both.
