Chacon Placed On Waivers

THURSDAY, 4:24pm: Chacon has been placed on waivers and will be released without pay assuming he clears.

WEDNESDAY, 10:21pm: An explanation for the suspension has come out.  Chacon had an altercation with GM Ed Wade, throwing him to the floor at one point.  What little trade value Chacon might have had is gone now.

8:01pm: It was only a matter of time.  Shawn Chacon, unhappy with his bullpen demotion, has asked the Astros for a trade.  He says he signed to be a starter and turned down more money to relieve for other teams.  Chacon would like to be released if the Astros can't trade him.  The 'Stros reacted by suspending him.

Teams probably won't be champing at the bit to add Chacon, who was predictably lousy in 15 starts.

ESPN bottom line just read that the Astros have suspended Chacon indefinitely. Any word on why?

Maybe he is following the Sidney Ponson method of changing teams.

well if he cant last in the worst rotation in all of baseball where does he think hes going to pitch?

'“He started yelling and cussing," Chacon said of Wade. "I’m sitting there and I said to him very calmly, ‘Ed, you need to stop yelling me. Then I stood up and said 'you better stop yelling at me.' I stood up. He continued and was basically yelling and stuff and was like, ‘You need to (expletive) look in the mirror.’ So at that point I lost my cool and I grabbed him by the neck and threw him to the ground. I jumped on top of him because at that point I wanted to beat his (butt). Words were exchanged.”

Players quickly intervened to separate Wade and Chacon, who remembers being pulled away by backup outfielder Reggie Abercrombie."

"Does Shawn Chacon have to choke a GM?"

(come on, you know somebody had to post that one)

Simply put, he'll be released within the next week. I just wonder if anyone else will give him a shot, even on a minor league deal.

There is always room for belligerent buffoonery in Scranton-Wilkes Barre.

If he can't swallow his pride and pitch in the bullpen, I can't see him pitching in the minors

I cannot belive Chacon did that.....

Even if Wade was cussing at him you can't physicaly assault your own employer

The pathetic part is that within a week or 2 he could have easily been back in the rotation, just like Zito.

Simply put, Chacon has lost all trade value. I know he'll probably be released but I had hopes that he would garner us a B- or C+ spec before this incident. What an idiot. He'll get a gig in an indy league but that's it.

If you are an Astros fan, you have to be happy about this on two levels. One you got rid of shawn chacon who is now the latrell spreewell or Pacman Jones of baseball... gotta be happy about that.

Number two he finally smacked some sense into your AWFUL gm Ed Wade and the Astros franchise in general. The Astros have a lot of talent not being used or trained properly (such as Chacon). This is what like the 5th time in like 3 years that a player has complained about the astros management and cried for a trade.

I believe in getting diseases such as chacon out of baseball and I IN NO WAY condone his actions as a positive way to deal with things. Like the Mets, yankees, tigers, rockies and padres, their GMs and entire management should be in their ears screaming at the top of their lungs. There is way too much talent on these teams for them to be doing as poorly as they are. Waaaa we have no bullpen, waaaaa we are injured, waaaaaaa we have a new manager, waaaaa our bats are cold. Thats pretty much all i've heard from these teams all season. The yankees are starting to step it up (finally). But for the astros.... you got an ace with around a 5.00 era. Yes oswalt is improving as time goes on, but oswalt struggled, chacon has struggled, pretty much the entire pitching staff is having their issues. I'd say that they should fire the pitching coach, not demote chacon to the bullpen. If just chacon's pitching was the problem, then i'd agree (as was the case with barry zito). I've watched 6 astros games so far this season and every game i've watched their pitching has been SLAUGHTERED. I think there needs to be some action in that front office starting with the firing of ed wade and their pitching coach (not sure of his name, can picture him in my mind).

Starting at the 3, at 6 foot 5 from the university of Alabama, Latrellllllllllllllllllllllllllll Spreeeeewelllllll.

Santana... I am all for the Sprewell jokes, but comparing him to Pacman Jones is a little much perhaps. Sprewell had one stupid incident, and after that he actually seemed like he was a good guy, I don't remember him having any problems in NY. Pacman Jones goes around "making it rain on some hoes". This is all in good fun, who hasn't made it rain now and again, but it begins to get out of hand when you slam a strippers head through the wall, for of all things, taking the money you just threw on her. I dont know if you know the rules, but you cannot just make it rain and then take it back. Then there was also the whole shooting a man and leaving him crippled thing.

All that said, Sprewell and Jones got second chances because they are very good players. Chacon is hardly Roy Oswalt over here and that is what it comes down to.

Lol. i'm just saying outrageous diseases that shouldn't be allowed in professional sports. Perhaps you prefer a comparison to Ron Artest. I mean punching a fans not that bad is it? haha.

secondly i refuse to forgive any piece of trash that brings violence into sports. Jones should not have a second shot at life, let alone at being a millionaire playing professional football. It makes me sick. I never have been a giants fan but pacman on dallas might just make me one. Sprewell got better in new york yes. but he did choke out his coach in golden state. He shouldn't have had his opportunity in new york.

Literally jason williams had to kill a man to get kicked out of professional sports/go to jail.

Where do we find these morons?

ZOMG completely off topic... but the funniest part w/artest is that when asked he said he "couldn't promise it wouldn't happen again" thats my favorite part. yet they still let him play basketball. Note to self: do not get floor seats to any game ron artest plays in.

I am an avid Astros fan, and I can say that I am stoked about this. It's like tabloid drama for baseball. I was okay with Chacon until this thing happened, and I don't think Wade is awful, although he wasn't who I was hoping they'd hire. Chacon just made a huge career blunder, and Wade didn't exactly help himself out either. Yes, the franchise is bad, and I think they need to have a fire sale and start over. But, as long as Drayton McLane owns this team, there will be no such thing. It's win now and worry about the future later for McLane. But you can't blame the Astros for Chacon's struggles. He hasn't had consistent success anywhere in his career. He was taken out of the rotation last year in PITTSBURGH and sucked as a closer in Colorado. The guy's just not all that great, but it's amazing how he can be so sure of himself when he gets lit up like he has been. Good luck finding another job, Chacon, and happy trails.

BTW, the pitching coach of the Astros is Dewey Robinson, and he's in his first year on the job, taking over for the retired Dave Wallace. Those are big shoes to fill, and Robinson doesn't seem to be getting it done.

Why would the astros release him? Wouldn't it be better to suspend him for rest of the year and not pay him? Whats the worst that can happen - league overturns it after a year or so of legal wrangling and then they pay him - at least this way they can keep him out of baseball AND not pay him this year. I would love to see it on Judge Judy

Well, I hope Chacon's preserving a macho image was worth it - no team will touch him with a ten-foot pole.

On the positive side, he'll have plenty of time to go look in the f****** mirror now.

Andrew, whats the point you're trying to make when putting PITTSBURGH in all caps? Like we're the last resort for hacks trying to cut a big league check?

All bias aside, I'd take the Bucs rotation all day over the Stros.

"All bias aside, I'd take the Bucs rotation all day over the Stros."

CRIPPLE FIGHT!?

If Gorzo and Snell showed half the potential they flashed last year, our rote wouldn't look nearly as bad as it does.

But instead, they look like they are on course to trading war stories with Ryan Vogelsong and Dave Williams.

He may not have any trade value but he has immense value as an Ed Wade beater. I wonder if I have enough money to keep him employed doing that. If Wade is afraid of going to Minute Maid, maybe he'll spend more time trying to rebuild the farm rather than screwing up the major league team.

Please ink the Phillies as suitors for Chacon. I dont want him to actually pitch, but he should come out with the Phanatic every middle of the fifth inning and choke slam an Ed Wade doll.

Whoever asked why the astros would release him? It would be so they can add another player to the roster.. I'm not 100% sure but I think if a player is suspened then you can't add another player to the roster until that player is moved, and if your suspened your not going want to accept a move to the minors.. and seeing that no team is going want to trade for him, that leaves releasing him. I still see a team signing him but not trading for him. But signing him as a bullpen guy. Chacon is nothing more then a wanna be thug.. he comes from Alaska, I hear it's hard core up there. Eskimo drive bys every day!!

Apparently when Chacon was on top of Wade administering his beating the other players heard him yelling "YOU'RE TAKING ME OUT OF THE ROTATION BECAUSE I SUCK??? DIDN'T YOU KNOW THAT WHEN YOU SIGNED ME??? YOU REALLY DO SUCK AT THIS JOB, DON'T YOU ED WADE???"

now that's funny page!!

I would rather have the Stros pitchers than Reds, Mariners, Tigers, Nat's, Marlins, Rockies, Rangers andPittsburgh who all actually and suprisingly have worse ERA's....

@ Santana...so how do you propose on having "effectively" using Chacon????

Chacon only has a few trade options left...Raw, SmackDown, ECW, or TNA...any thoughts?

Chacon has given up 16 HR and 88 hits in 85 innings, w/ a 5 ERA.
Apparently Chacon didn't want to look in the mirror or saw something really bad concerning his MLB future in that mirror.
Then, he choked the GM.

That ought to ensure your rightful place in the starting rotation. Way to take the high road there.
Stay classy...

TheTeej...

so you'd rather have Roy Oswalt & company over Harang/ Volguez/ Cueto??? Wow, do you watch baseball much?

"CRIPPLE FIGHT!?

Posted by: DunkinDonuts"

That was brilliant.

I would rather have a lower team ERA yes. That Ponson comment was pretty funny.

now if i could pick and choose from each team obviously that is different but we were discussing team era not individual ppl or anything.you guys think it would be all bad to let Chacon get his head straight send him to Round Rock and hope he gets on track then trade him or something? would it be better to just cut losses with him?

I never said that the Bucs' rotation was worse. I was just making a point that it's not exactly full of top-tier starters. Actually, the Astros' rotation is worse right now, with Wandy Freakin' Rodriguez being the best pitcher.

I guess cutting the loss would be what they are doing. Seriously he is going to fight Kimbo Slice on pay per view next week i bet

and at the end of the fight Kimbo is going to smash a mirror over Chacon's head...talk about irony
