Cubs Eyeing Giants or A's?

Cubs Special Assistant to the General Manager Gary Hughes attended an A's-Giants game recently, according to Henry Schulman.  Could be nothing, since Hughes is based in the Bay Area.  But here at MLBTR I like to put all the info in front of you.

Schulman's source indicated that the Cubs have not asked about the apparently available Randy Winn.

I'd think they might be looking at starters (Hardin, Matt Cain, etc.) but I pray that Dana Eveland and Kevin Correia aren't what they consider upgrades.

Cubs are apparently in the market for a lefty starter. So, if the scouting was anything other than routine, I'd say Mr. Hughes was looking at Greg Smith, Dana Eveland or, on the VERY off and VERY unlikely chance, Zito.

oh man speed,

Zito would be fantastic in a Cubs uniform. I mean I know he'd be terrible in Wrigley, but something about him pitching for the Cubs just sounds poetic.

I think Gary Hughes was out there inquiring the SF Organization about the locker room presence and supporting cast that come along with Barry Bonds, so the Cubbies will be prepared for them when we sign him for the September roster expansion. I think they'll try him at 2B.

I'm soooo kidding.

Randy Winn would be great in Cubbie Blue.

i think the cubs might be looking for infield help from the a's

"i think the cubs might be looking for infield help from the a's"

...Dont forget about Durham and Omar (easy to obtain SH middle infielders) ~ same could be said about the Giants as well...

Micah Hauffpauir for Brad Hennessey?

Id say its probably nothing. I live with an Indians scout and he goes to random big league "non-working" games all the time, you know, for fun.

Cain is the only half way realistic option that excites me at all from a Cubs perspective. Maybe Harden, but they are doing really well and we would have to give up the farm to get him...so, back to Cain maybe?

who cares about giving up the farm, we need to do anything to win now... the management is not worrying about what happens in 3 or 4 years, they want to win now, and so do we.... i say do whatever to get harden or burnett

"who cares about giving up the farm, we need to do anything to win now"

This is pretty much as horrible a philosophy as there could ever be when running a baseball team.

“This is pretty much as horrible a philosophy as there could ever be when running a baseball team.”

…What do you mean, isnt it working for the M’s?

Cubs fans are so moronic sometimes. Did you not pay attention in the Off-Season? Cain and Lincecum are OFF LIMITS!!! And about Harden, YES you would have to give up your non-existent farm. You guys are so high on all your lame B and C level prospects you don't even realize that's what they are. A deal for Harden would be somewhere along the lines of this:
Harden + 1 A Ball player for...
Josh Vitters, Jose Ceda, and Jeff Samardzija. Along the lines of that would be right.

P.S. Dark, isn't it funny that "guru"'s boy just got fired.

darkstar1661,
Do you mean "Some" or "A" Cubs fan being moronic? I say this because I am a Cubs fan and I do not remember touting some B or C prospect to be traded for Harden.

I think maybe next time you should reference who you are talking to. Not just say a large group of people are stupid, just because some dude you disagree with does not know how MLB trades usually work.

OR, and this is a big OR...
What if that guy you are referencing was just wondering what kind of trades could be made if Bavasi was the GM of the A's.

You never know...

And obviously this wasn't directed towards darkstar1661. it was to "AriGoldisaG". My appologies to darkstar1661.

You'll have to forgive me, being a Cubs fan makes me 9% blind and dumb.

“You'll have to forgive me”
…No worries…

“being a Cubs fan makes me 9% blind and dumb.”
…Hahaha…
