Casey Fossum had been tearing up Triple A, so the Tigers decided to designate Francisco Cruceta to make room for him.
Cruceta, 26, has only 26 big league innings under his belt. He's been knocked around, and lousy control hasn't helped. Cruceta missed all of spring training with visa issues. The Tigers are the fifth organization seduced by Cruceta's high ceiling (according to Baseball America).

Shame--Cruceta was Detroit's #9 prospect according to BA.

It's not a shame to see a sort of young prospect go back down to the minors when an all-star like Casey Fossum is coming up to take his place.
Seriously though, what a good story that Casey Fossum's back up in the big leagues. That guy's been with about six teams in the last five years and most people thought he was going to be a stud when he came up with the Sox. How can you not root for a guy like that to finally show his promise even though he's 30?

How can you not root for a guy that throws the occasional Eephus pitch?

Oh man, Cruceta has some wicked stuff when he can control it. As a Tribe fan, I was so excited when we pulled him in (with the big intimidating head-hunter Ricardo Rodriguez for Shuey). Hope he finds a good home, good pitching coach, and eventually time in the Majors again…

…As much as I do root for him, that’s kind of sad. I mean, the guy had been making prospect lists since 02-03... But think of it this way ~ teams don’t generally sign their top-10 prospects off the minor-league scrap-heap; ya know…

It also speaks to the crappiness of Detroit's farm system.

Sounds to me like a Jesus Colome clone.
Maybe the Nats will take a shot and see if Randy St. Claire can figure him out.
