Tomko Designated

The Royals' Brett Tomko experiment has ended after 60.6 lousy innings.  He was designated for assignment to make room for Carlos Rosa.

The Royals spent $3MM on Tomko, and he posted a 6.97 ERA in ten starts and six relief appearances.  It was worth a shot.

Maybe he'll end up back at San Diego or Seattle.

THANK YOU GOD!!!!

Good riddance! This is great news, although I will miss calling him a bum during games. Never liked this signing, or Tomko in general.

$3M on Tomko was not "worth a shot" it was "wasted money."

Anyone seen that guy pitch the last 5 years? I had hope for him in LA, but he was horrible.

There must be 50 guys in the minors who could pitch 5.00 type ERAs in the big leagues. Why pay Brett Tomko $3M to do it?

Because he's a Proven Major Leaguer.

More importantly, it prevents you from signing Barry Zito.

…I actually think Cleveland might be one of the teams who attempts to sign him. He does have upside (doesn’t generally meet it, but it is there), and he wont cost anything at this point ~ they have done so previously with other pitchers and they could have a need if Carmona doesn’t come back soon or if they do end up trading CC. Much like they have Elarton on standby, Tomko is probably next…

The royals gave it a good try. I think tomko would end up in Seattle. They have nothing really to lose.

"Because he's a Proven Major Leaguer."

There is nothing "proven" at this point about Bombko, other than his propensity for walks and home runs.

I haven't been this happy since Brezhnev died.

We'll see how Rosa does...but there's not a ton of depth in the minors yet...so I hope he does well.

Clearly, he'll be missed.
