« Burnett Won't Be Traded | Main | Jarrod Washburn Rumors: Monday »
First A.J. Burnett, now Bronson Arroyo. According to ESPN's Jayson Stark, the Reds have informed other teams that Arroyo unavailable. Arroyo's contract was causing unsatisfactory offers.
The Reds are pretty quiet all around. MLB.com's Mark Sheldon says offers for Adam Dunn, David Weathers, Dave Ross, and Jeremy Affeldt have been unimpressive.

Arroyo is off the market. Burnett won't be traded.
It looks like Duchscherer might be the only guy left.
The Rockies and Dodgers (according to Steve Phillips during the Angels/RedSox game, the Dodgers are having internal discussions on duke, whatever that mens) are after Duke-perhaps allowing the A's to get their asking price.

I would still be surprised if one of Weathers or Affeldt are not moved. Both have a chance to be at least a Type B free agent. Dunn will be Type A and Griffey will be Type B. With the Reds tight strings I can't see them being able to sign all those extra picks.

If the Reds had any confidence in their young pitching I think Arroyo would be gone for just salary relief. Since they still need him a little I think they hold on to him and hope that he pitches well in the second half and then move him in the off-season.
As for Dunn, he's hitting very well as of late and is getting his average to around .250, leading the league in homers, the team in RBI (would be more but Baker insist on hitting the hitter formally known as Ken Griffey Jr in the number 3 slot in the order) and is playing league average defense in LF if not a little better.
Honestly he's getting close to actually being underrated because people see him as a Dave Kingman clone that can't field to save his life and has absolutely no passion for the game because he apparently hates it.
Dunner is closer to the Reggie Jackson's, Jim Thome's, and Mark McGwire's of the baseball world, is someone that has to be pulled out of games...played over a year with bum knees and a entire half with a broken hand...and someone that you never hear anything bad about.
I think the worst is that he was upset management took his recliner from the clubhouse and he lacked passion.
Personally I hope the Reds lock him up for another four or five years so I get to enjoy watching him play a little longer.

Hmmm Kershaw and LaRoach for the Duke might be the coup of the century for Beane.

I'd piss myself if the A's got Kershaw and LaRoche (or Kershaw period) for Duke.
That said, it'll never happen.

I wouldn't trade Arroyo if I were Jocketty, at least not yet. Starting pitching is always needed around baseball and I would wait until our prospects have developed and shown us their true capabilities. Then match them with Arroyo, if Arroyo is the odd man out, someone else will want him.
