Manny To Dodgers, Bay To Red Sox

4:05pm: Peter Abraham says Manny's team options were removed and he has agreed to decline arbitration.

3:58pm: Let's sort through this wild trade.

  • For 1.3 years of Bay, the Pirates receive LaRoche, Morris, Hansen, and Moss.  Moss becomes the regular left fielder, LaRoche takes over at third until Pedro Alvarez is ready.  When that happens, they might have a good problem on their hands.  Future Pirates' outfield: Moss, McCutchen, McLouth.  The pitchers are a couple of live arms at this point.
  • The Red Sox might be downgrading a bit with Bay replacing Manny, but they get Bay next year for just $7.5MM.
  • The Dodgers will have Manny play every day.  That leaves Juan Pierre, Andruw Jones, Andre Ethier, and Matt Kemp splitting two outfield spots.  Not ideal, but they didn't give up a ton to get Ramirez.  One question - can they get Manny to agree to decline an offer of arbitration so they can net draft picks?

3:39pm: Bob Nightengale has the Bucs getting Craig Hansen and Brandon Moss from the Red Sox and Andy LaRoche and Bryan Morris from the Dodgers, correcting what looks like a typo in the Rosenthal report.

3:37pm: Rosenthal has details:

Pirates outfielder Jason Bay is headed to the Red Sox. The Pirates will receive Andy LaRoche and right-hander Bryan Morris from the Dodgers and outfielder Damien Moss and releiver Craig Hansen from the Red Sox.

He adds that the Red Sox will pay the $7MM remaining on Manny's contract.

3:30pm: According to SI.com's Jon HeymanJack Curry agrees.

"So basically what you're telling me here is the Dodgers Got Manny for nothing?
Andy LeRoche and Bryan Morris are grape jelly..."

That's a good point. This trade doesn't make a whole lot of sense if all the LAD gave up were those two washouts...

If I was Pittsburgh, I'd bust Boston for Lowrie too.

I'm confused. There seems to be a lot of positive talk with regard to the Pirates' end of this deal. I don't see it. Seems to me the only prospect of any consequence is LaRoche. The same people knocking Brignac are happy with LaRoche...? Why? He's two and a half years older, plays a less pressing position, and hasn't done jack at the big league level in between stints on the DL. Maybe I'm being harsh, but I'd look at his brother as a pretty good comp and that hardly seems worth it. Maybe someone else can help me understand the allure of this deal for the Bucs, 'cause I'm just not seeing it.

Brosius....Yes they are spending $7M, but my point is that they are spending $7M now to save $10.5 next season...remeber, they still had pay it even if they didn't trade him. So why not pay it now, solidify your outfield for next season and save $10.5M next season?

Ok, so the Sox traded Manny AND two major leaguers for somebody who has worse numbers than Manny?

"Happy day for Yankees? Nope. A happy day for the Yankees would be getting rid of the ridiculous contracts of Abreu ... and Giambi ... and Jeter ... and Pavano ... and Damon ... and how about that tremendous four-year deal for Posada? GENIUS! And wait until you dingleberries pony up four years and $100 million for Manny this offseason ... choke on it, yanker "

I think someone is a little pissed off that their team just had to give away Manny AND two prospects while paying for the rest of Manny's contract just to get back Bay.

"Lets go yankees you have got to be kidding me, this is a good day for you? you do nothing to help your team, we rid ourselves of cancer and get out left fielder of the future. stupidity"

we do nothing to help our team? what do you call getting pudge, nady and marte for no one except our own cancer of the future in tabata. if anyone didnt do anything, it was the red sox, who didnt even address the real issue with their team, which is the bullpen.

yes finally, now my yanks dont have to deal with his bat

hahahahahahahahaha its a great day for yankees all over the world lol

"Nady already has hit a homer and has been hitting pretty well since the Boston series.

As for Marte, he struck out your beloved Big Papi. Thats what the Yanks need him for."

nady is playing average. so what he hit some crappy orioles pitchers big deal. but marte sstruck out papi your right, he also gave up 2 runs in relief to the orioles in a game the yankees lost by 1

Alvarez if signed can play 1st base.

Sorry Sox fans. You don't have (Manny)the Yankee killer anymore.

Yeah, you got Bay, but he won't have an impact in a game like Manny does.

Manny killed Yankee pitching and Bay has never seen it.

"remeber, they still had pay it even if they didn't trade him."

True, though I guess they have to pay Bay something as well for this year - though not nearly as much.

"Manny killed Yankee pitching and Bay has never seen it."

Bay will be alright, but I think people underestimate the difference between him and Manny. Also, he's still got the knee issue - which could crop up again.

Manny's production has been on a decline since 06, and when you toss in Bay's defense this is a net gain for the Sox. Yeah a reliever would've been great, and Manny plus 2 prospects seems like a lot to give up. The thing is though Hansen is a bust in Boston and Brandon Moss would never be a starter in Boston.

"How can the Red Sox be winners? They traded Manny, Brandon Moss, and Hansen for Jason Bay. They also gave the dodgers 7mm. How can that trade be worth anything? That is the worst trade I have ever seen unless the Sox also got prospects."

Manny was pretty much a lost cause for the season if he stayed a Red Sox. He would have whined and probably sat out half the games with mysterious leg pains. Bay will at least give Boston a productive player. Also considering Bay is a right handed pull hitter, he should fall in love with the monster pretty quickly, fly outs in Pitts will suddenly be doubles. As for losing Hansen and Moss, well Hansen has been unproductive and wild, nothing like the "future closer" he was drafted to be. He still has nasty stuff, but maybe a change of venue will help him. And Moss, he was simply a 4th outfielder with Boston when Coco was already a 4th outfielder. I like the guy, I'd like to see what he'll do Boston kicked in was definitely to stop the headache.

Overall, Boston gets less whining, similar production, better defense for less money for Manny, a failed prospect, and a blocked prospect.

LA gets the power hitter they desperately need and fairly cheap, but the outfield has become a laughable conundrum with Manny, Jones, Kemp, Ethier, and Pierre all wanting playing time. I'm betting Ethier gets the shaft.

Pirates win though, LaRoche will develop into a good power hitter and third baseman of the future, Hansen is a project but could turn it around, Moss full time could be a solid dirt dog, and I know little about the last guy.

Well, I think this settles the whole deal for the Dodgers. They loved what they saw from DeWitt this year and want to develop him into their third baseman of the future.

"That's a good point. This trade doesn't make a whole lot of sense if all the LAD gave up were those two washouts..."

Don't be so sure they wash out. The lower pressure environment in Pgh, not to mention being around his brother (Karate Kid theme twice per game!), may well be what LaRoche needs.

"Manny killed Yankee pitching and Bay has never seen it."

This is true, though we really haven't seen Bay play half his games in a hitter's park.

"If I was Pittsburgh, I'd bust Boston for Lowrie too."

All the people who trashed them for the Nady/Marte deal are probably backing off a bit now with the haul they got.

Aubrey Huff is just as good as Jason Bay, too bad the Os couldnt swing this thing.

Colletti is lucky he works for a team with a ton of money, 'cause he really seems to be a moron. Let's see if I have this right...they've got kids like Kemp, Ethier, and Delwyn Young (OK, let's just stick with the first two) as well as a sinkhole in Juan Pierre. So what do you do? Sign a declining 'star' who looks like he's aged 25 years over the last two- Andruw Jones. Ummm...huh? Then, at the trade deadline, while talking to the team that has a SS- which you've been looking for- you get...another declining- albeit FAR better- star with a history of being a complete d-bag! Brilliant!!! At this rate, the Dodgers will have a whole roster of billionaire OF'ers and little else. Don't get me wrong, they're a pretty solid club, but it's DESPITE Colletti's best efforts to totally screw them from within. I was really hoping the O's would offer George Sherrill, Aubrey Huff, and a shapely pile of navel lint for Kershaw and Kemp just to see if- like some Pavlovian dog- Colletti would smell a chance to ruin his organization and jump at it.

I know hoping for Sheets is optimistic but it is false to say that trading Bay was a contract dump we could easily afford him so that's just a stupid assesment. Neil has to at least offer at sheets to show fans he is trying to seriously improve the team. Decent trade let's see how it works also Bucs fans I know you were waiting but it's finnaly time for Andrew McCutcheon.

ScottBrosius
you called a kid throwing in A ball a wash out? hm ok. laroche will hit, hes the third baseman for them now and he knows it. no trying to earn a spot, he will hit and be on base all the time.
really though when i heard this trade i really thought kemp was traded because thats the only thing that makes sense

aubrey huff is not jason bay in the least

"Aubrey Huff is just as good as Jason Bay, too bad the Os couldnt swing this thing."

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA. One puts up all-star numbers in a pitcher's park and the other puts up solid numbers in a hitter's park, and they are equals?

"Colletti is lucky he works for a team with a ton of money"

Theoretically, but McCourt mortgaged everything down to his underwear to buy the Dodgers, so don't expect Yankee or even Angel-esque spending till Andruw is off the books and some of the renovations have taken place.

"Kemp, Ethier, and Delwyn Young"

After this deal, I think Young is finally going to be fully converted back to 2B for next year. Plus, I think Torre has been told that the Jones doctrine (play the guy no matter how bad he is) is off and to field the best lineup.

George Sherrill, Aubrey Huff, and a shapely pile of navel lint for Kershaw and Kemp.

i would personally plant a bomb on collettis car.

I think the Red Sox did well considering their leverage in the situation. Obviously there roster isnt much better now, but Bay should be able to perform at a very similar level to Manny without the headaches, and club house distractions. Nobody can deny that the Sox needed to shake things up a bit with the way they have been playing. Another thing to consider is that if Bay does well, he could be the Sox left fielder for the next half decade.

The Dodgers did pretty well here. LaRoche has proven absolutely nothing and is not even hitting well in the minors this year. They receive exactly what they needed in the form of Manny, and the two compensation picks after he leaves this year.

The Pirates did poorly again, just as they did in the Nady/Marte trade. Its very possible that Brandon Moss is the only 1 in the bunch that becomes an average outfielder, and his ceiling isnt much higher than that.

BucSox...It was a complete Salary dump. Why else would you deal the best player on your team? They were looking to get rid of him for decent prospects before his salary went up next season. Also, while management in Pittsburgh has changed, the ownership's opinion on spending money on high-priced free-agents has not. If you think they will even talk to Sheets' agent, you are kidding yourself.

I'm very inpressed by the Pirates in this deal, not even having to give up Grabow they got a future closer, 3B, a surprisingly quality AA arm(Morris= 20 y.o. with a 3.20 ERA with 72 ks and only 31 BBs in 81 IP) and on OF who's proved he can hit in the bigs. I wish the Braves had gotten a haul like this for Tex...

Dodgers really lose here I think, they never seem to be rebuilding.

huff is 2 years older, played a career total of 8 games in left, has comparable hitting numbers but his obp isnt as good. i mean now that i look at it hes a decent dh/1b. i wouldnt throw in lf though

Steal for the Red Sox. Manny and Ramirez are about the same, but they get Bay for next year for Brandon Moss and Craig Hansen. I hate the deal for the Pirates. They give up Bay for only 1 good prospect, a stopgap outfielder, and 2 mediocer pitchers. This will probably make Neil Walker expendable. Alvarez could move to 1B and they could trade LaRoche. I could see Walker to the A's for a pitching propsect like Brett Anderson. It seems like a decent move for the Dodgers.

dude seriously though this is exactly what LA needed. laroche had no shot with us and we pitchers, young ones.

o plus id like to hear red sox fans say jason bay in the bostonian accent, huff wouldnt sound as good.

I love all the moron MA$$H0LES that are on here laughing at the Yankee fans for celebrating...and declaring what a great day it is in Sux Nation.

In case you didn't realize it....despite being a total tool....Manny IS a first ballot HOF'er...and a guy who has hit .407 with 17 hr's vs the Yankees in the last THREE years. He may be one of the most feared and clutch hitter of the last three decades...and along with Big Poopi, the reason why your team has ever gone anywhere. YES, he is personally a moron. However, even as a Yankees fan I can admit he's one of the best...EVER. You WILL miss this guy (not personally) at the plate.

Bay is a very nice player...but is hitting .206 with RISP this year. Manny, .309. Bay also has had knee problems in the past. Hanson has a nice arm and Moss was no sloutch of a prospect.

Between getting Nady, Marte and Pudge...getting rid of Fartsworth and Hawkins & getting Manny out of the division...this may be one of the best trade deadlines ever!!

Anyone else looking forward to seeing San Diego play LA in Petco? Manny in that spacious left... he'll be begging to play again in the much smaller Fenway.

Dodgerblue...remember they are getting two first round draft picks in next years draft to restock the system. They got a tremendous offensive upgrade in Ramirez without sacrificing the present or future. Pretty impressive if I say so myself.

i cant wait to watch jason bay start putting dents in the monster, hes never been able to play 81 games at a place like the fens

Worst Deal Ever

I love the comment by jjyankeesfan2. I think everyone knows that if this trade didnt go through, he would call Manny a declining hitter and terrible fielder, and Hansen and Moss 2 terrible prospects.

what are you talking about...finally Colleti did something right!!! he signed a big bat for the middle of the lineup...this is now a ligit lineup...who sits on the bench though of the 5 outfeilders...obviously not kemp or manny so that leaves eithier and pierre since jones sux

If you remember, in the early 90's the Dodgers seemed to have a Rookie of the Year every year. Nowadays they rely on the free agent market and using their young players as chips. Whatever works for them I guess but that's not as exciting as watching players come up through the organization I think and not as effective. Even the Yankees have a strong group of homegrown players. Martin and Kemp are all I really see when I look and Kemp has trade rumors all around him yearly.

themfightnwords

I've said MANY times on here that Manny is one of the best ever....because he IS. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to see it...just look at the numbers. I'm sure as a SUX fan, you probably don't like Rivera...but you'd be a freakin idiot not to agree that he is one of the best of all time.

'All the people who trashed them for the Nady/Marte deal are probably backing off a bit now with the haul they got.'

Nope...pretty much just trashing them for the 'haul' they got here AND the Nady/Marte deal.

I think the result of this trade will speak for itself. The Red Sox are the most sucessful franchise in this decade, so I think its pretty fair to say that Epstien knows what he is doing, and your childish "sux fan" comments dont change that.

This is an enormous haul for the Pirates. Way to go Bucs!

This frees them to spend more on pitching in the offseason.

Funny, I'm DEFENDING the fact that Manny was one of the best ever and killed the Yankees...and I have to defend myself against Sux fans?? LOL!!! You really ARE a Nation of Idiots. That's like me getting angry if you said losing Jorge for the year was a huge loss. CLUELESS!

Insomniac, the Dodgers haven't been giving up any of their top prospects aside from this trade with LaRoche, and that's because they prefer DeWitt. Loney, Ethier, Martin, Kershaw, Broxton, Kemp... Far more than just Martin and Kemp, and Kemp isn't going anywhere.

I'm sorry if I wasnt clear- but my point is that Stankees fans criticize the Sox whenever they can, even when criticism is not due. Im sorry that your organization lacks direction, but you dont need to take your anger out on the Nation.

Wow, this was a steal for LA. Would have acceptedted Ethier going (NOT KEMP) and they got both, and even showed their hand that LaRoche was on the block. Rediculously cool. 2 high draft picks after Manny walks? Awesome. As for the log-jam in the outfield... Andruw get DFA'd or could an Ethier trade be out there and unannounced?

jdubbs, i love it. i just dont know how the outfield will be dealt with i guess young will go down, and hopefully play second at vegas. i really think he will hit, and if he can play second its sweet. so im thinking..
kemp/pierre/jones chewing seeds on the bench
either/pierre
martin
manny
loney
kent..ew
blake
berroa/garciaparra moves to the six spot if ever comes back

Is anyone saying the Red Sox are paying the rest of Manny's 2008 salary? Some earlier reports said that, but not this one. If the Sox got out of paying that money (about $7m) then this deal looks a lot better for them.

So now the question is...

When Manny retires and goes to the Hall.. which team does he go in as?

Does either Cleveland or Boston retire his number?

hmm...

themfightnwords |

It'll be easier when you accept the fact you got fleeced.

JDUBB,

You make a good point except that we have new ownership this year and it is really untested in the free agent market so we shall see. Besides I'm not saying we offer Sheets 20MM$/yr just make an offer.

seriously wtf are the yankees doing. they supposedly are doing what the red sox are and going with the youth movement but they trade 4 prospects(although crappy prospects) for older players, they sign richie sexson....really? richie sexson? ok sure and then they lose jorge which is a huge loss because your paying him an arm and a leg and getting nothing from him. plus you get older at catcher just when molina was getting in a groove and handling the pitchers like a pro

No they didn't get out of paying his salary, but they paid for salary relief next season while making sure they don't have to go overpay for a left-field replacement. People they freed up over $10M to go after pitching next season, while filling what would have been a gaping hole next season, without mortgaging the future!

"Andruw get DFA'd or could an Ethier trade be out there and unannounced?"

Do you really think they DFA the money they owe him next year (which is actually less than one thinks, because they sunk a lot into the signing bonus) without seeing if Donnie and Pentland can fix his swing over the winter?

As for an Ethier trade, I sure as hell hope not. He may be quiet, but he is one of those guys like Carl Furillo or Paul O'Neil who do nothing but put up solid numbers and play excellent defense every year.

"i guess young will go down"

Young is out of options, so that is likely a no go.

I do wonder if they pull a Dontrelle with Jones and option him to Vegas with permission to get his swing fixed.

"kemp/pierre/jones chewing seeds on the bench
either/pierre"

I think Kemp will stay in the 1 or 2 slot for the rest of they year, as he has seemed comfortable there. Like I said, Ethier and Pierre probably platoon with Manny shifting between right and left.

"I'm sorry if I wasnt clear- but my point is that Stankees fans criticize the Sox whenever they can, even when criticism is not due."

Like you Sox fans don't do the same?????

We both criticize each other on every move we make. It's the greatest rivalry in sports, if you're not aware, idiot.

BucSox...Oh I know you have new ownership. That wasn't my point. My point was that your ownerships opinion on overpaying for free agents still hasn't changed. They will continue to build from the draft and might actually begin to be competitive in 5 years. Your new ownership knows that. And that is why they won't pursue high-profile free agents like Sheets.

Way to go Dodgers! You just made Fenway far less scary for the Halos!!!

"I'm sorry if I wasnt clear- but my point is that Stankees fans criticize the Sox whenever they can, even when criticism is not due. Im sorry that your organization lacks direction, but you dont need to take your anger out on the Nation".

I don't even need comebacks with you dude...you're just making an idiot of yourself! LOL!!

Feel free to go onto the NY Daily News chatboard and see at least 456 comments per day from ignorant "Nation" fans that didn't even know your team existed until 2004...because, it really didn't. Your fans are known to be the rudest, most arrogant tools on the planet. So cry me a river that the big bad Yankees fans fight back. BoooHooo.

You're right too...13 straight trips to the playoffs...four rings in the last 12 years...and being the winningist sports franchise of ALL TIME is really tough to accomplish with "no direction". So is being only ONE game back from the very (cough cough) accomplished (aka - 2 rings in 90 YEARS!! LOL!!) Red SUX organization.

On that note, I have better things to do than argue with some jagoff on why losing a Red Sux legend will be a problem for your team. Good luck with Bay and that lusty .206 RISP avg!! Your team will be golfing in October...just like they did for about EIGHT DECADES.

Great Deal for LA.
Think about it. we are giving up Laroche, who was not in our plans because of the emergence of DeWitt, and we gave up Morris who seems to maybe a decent reliever in the majors. We arent paying a dime for Mannys contract. So he will be in left, pierre in center, and kemp in right. my question though is will the dodgers try and keep him for a few more years or is this just a rentle? anyone have any insight.

"Way to go Dodgers! You just made Fenway far less scary for the Halos!!!" i guess you didnt watch the last series... it was like candy land for the angels

Way to go Dodgers! You just made Fenway far less scary for the Halos!!!

dude the angels do not fear the east..

it's addition by subtraction.

. . . and to the earlier question of who will retire #24; the Sox will for Dewey, and Manny will where the B in Cooperstown/

This is horrible I am going down on the bottle. I want Manny back now!

Honestly I hope Manny goes into the hall for the Red Sox or the world series will honestly be cheapened. I will never watch baseball again if Manny doesn't go into the Hall as a Red sock.

However....Jason Bay is really good, and I think he will jell with the team well. I am wishing Manny well...and hoping for an off season reunion...that would be so sweet. Then we could deal crisp, and make Bay sit in limbo just like Crisp. A happy world it would be.....with that said its going to happen...Manny might have told me........wow this messed me up.

jjyankeesfan2.
not one person remembers those 2 rings they remember losing in the 9th inning in the desert losing to a kid in the bronx.
and losing a 3-0 lead.
and yes redsox fans are rowdy i went to fenway and someguy made the mistake of wearing a orange boston cap. funny stuff

excuse me 26 rings lol..

"Way to go Dodgers! You just made Fenway far less scary for the Halos!!!"

"i guess you didnt watch the last series... it was like candy land for the angels"

"dude the angels do not fear the east.."

Burtis has a point. Manny was pretty much the only one who could hit them. I am sure Frankie is happy to see him gone.

"It's the greatest rivalry in sports, if you're not aware, idiot."

Not even close. It has really only gained steam in the last 10 years or so. Dodgers/Midgets is the greatest rivalry in sports.

"Way to go Dodgers! You just made Fenway far less scary for the Halos!!!" i guess you didnt watch the last series... it was like candy land for the angels

Dude, who do the Angels lose to in the playoffs? Redsox maybe?

So Tim---
Webhit stats for the day?

bruins/canadiens is the greatest rivalry

well in the playoffs the angels will lose anyways but my point is manny didnt change their outlook on it

Huff's as good as Bay?! Umm, dude, I'm an O's fan and I wouldn't go that far. Huff's had a great year and he's typically been a 2nd half player, so he may even be in for a career year, but he's been nowhere near as consistent as Bay and he's older. Still, I'm not sure what AA's talking about... Camden Yards isn't a hitter's park. It's actually pretty neutral from everything I've ever read. Where are you getting that?

CSIZZL3- Huff can play left. It's the least demanding position on the field, with the possible exception of first base. If he can handle third (on occasion, not as a starter obviously), he's fine in LF. You're better off with Bay though.

'I could see Walker to the A's for a pitching propsect like Brett Anderson'

What are you, crazy?! Walker is a B or C level prospect, while Anderson has emerged as one of the better pitching prospects in the game! Unless Billy Beane suddenly turned 'tard, I think it's safe to assume the Bucs would be lucky to get a guy like Craig Italiano for Walker (to stick with the A's system)...maybe (and I stress MAYBE) Henry Rodriguez. Inoa, Anderson, Cahill, Simmons, Mazarro, and Gio are all way out of Walker's league. Why don't you throw in Brian Bullington next time!

Dodgerlover- Manny's a step up, no doubt, but you must admit, there's a real glut of OF'ers now and you still have issues with the middle of the infield. Just seems strange that a more pressing need wasn't addressed. My point with Colletti was a more general 'he's a moron' thing; it wasn't really directed toward this deal, specifically.

Insomniac- You're 'inpressed'? If that's the same as impressed, I'm not sure why. In five years, I'd be shocked to find more than one of these guys on the Bucs roster. Despite giving up a legit star, they returned quantity rather than quality. Morris is marked for the 'pen unless we see a tremendous turn around, Hansen's already there, Moss is a nice 4th outfielder who could, perhaps start with McCutchen and McLouth but he doesn't have a Mc in his name which truly damages his credibility; seriously, though, I've never heard him described as anything but a league-average-at-best type. Hardly something to get too excited over.

Where will the Dodger put Manny in there lineup???

They already have a soild outfield:

LF- Kepp
.295, 12 hr, 57 rbi, 26 sb
CF- Pierre
.279, 36 sb
RF- Either
.271, 11 hr, 46 rbi
(covert one into a shortstop) jk

Tough call of who sits.

Interesting to see if Manny can be as suprising as Blake showing up on same day as trade. Doubt it, as it IS Manny, but it'd be cool tonight against Webb.
Beantowners, rest assured, Manny's going in as a Red Sox (how do you unpluralsise such a thing?) in HOF. Just make sure we get Piazza ;)

"Dude, who do the Angels lose to in the playoffs? Redsox maybe?"

Thats was the past!
Doesn't that sound familiar?
Thats what all you sox fans say about the Yankees.

Sal DO NOT ever friggin call me a Redsox fan!

Oh wow, with this trade, a west coast baseball team can now appear in the first 15 minutes of Sportcenter.

Kemp Moves to Right, Pierre in Cetner. Manny in Left. they will sacrafice pierres weak arm to keep him in the lineup and get on base for guys like manny kent martin kemp and loney to drive him in

I still think the pirates could have gotten more they had all the leaverage in the trade discussions because if they don't trade Bay the red sox are really hurting. Decent haul but they could've gotten more. They should've demanded Lowrie because now it seems that they will have a logjam in the outfield in a few years.
Moss McClutchen McClouth Tataba Pearce
I thought the Pirates didn't want outfield prospects.

"Sal DO NOT ever friggin call me a Redsox fan!"

So don't talk like one. lol

Dodgers/Giants is a better rivalry than Sox/Yanks?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's not even worth responding to. It's just too stupid (and for the record, I'm not a fan of either the Red Sox OR the Yankees).

Pirates did very good. They have gotten 4 MLB ready players.

Moss
Hansen
LaRoche
Ohlendorf
possibly Karstens

24, 42, 2, 4.
All retired numbers in LA.
So for the issues of other trivial unimportance, what other effects happen tonight or tomorrow? Dodgers have had a no facial hair rule until Sheffield came. Manny get the shears? Anybody care? Didn't think so... :D

Read the post bro. Comprehension is a wonderful thing.

"Dodgers/Giants is a better rivalry than Sox/Yanks?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Who said that???
We need to ban him like Guru.

You all remember him?

I still think Jack goes to Boston for Lowrie don't forget you can still make trades. You just have to clear a guy through waivers and no one will pick up his 7MM$ contract. If we get Lowrie too I think we are set up pretty nice for the future.

"Tough call of who sits.

Posted by: Sal from Tampa "

Juan Pierre is almost as bad at playing baseball, as you are at talking about it.

I don't think its all that tough of a call regarding who sits. If I were Torre:

The Dodgers outfield SHOULD be Kemp in Center, Manny, and Pierre and Ethier platooning depending on the pitcher. Statistically, that would be the most logical to me.

Andruw Jones should be DFA'd.

Sal,

'Pirates did very good. They have gotten 4 MLB ready players.'

Yeah, but isn't the point of dealing an impact player, to get back a younger potential impact player? I see a star leaving and a whole lot of mediocrity heading to the 'burgh.

anyone hear if manny is gonna make it for the game tonight?

It is a tough call who sits.
All of the Dodgers outfielders are playing well, except for Jones.

Don't be angry because you lost Manny.

"Andruw Jones should be DFA'd."

I slipped that into a post earlier too but you know it aint gonna happen (this year) ;)

"Dodgers/Giants is a better rivalry than Sox/Yanks?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's not even worth responding to. It's just too stupid (and for the record, I'm not a fan of either the Red Sox OR the Yankees)."

Well... technically Dodgers/Giants is an older rivalry than Red Sox/Yankees. Red Sox/Yankees is a lot more recent than people believe. Though to be honest, the rivalry between Dodgers/Giants true heyday was back when they were both in New York, you had the whole Manhattan versus Brooklyn thing going. But to be honest, the LA/SF rivalry is fairly intense, it just gets far less coverage than Red Sox/Yankees.

I feel really bad for pittsburg. They got Hansen who sucks, but got moss who is a very good and young player. i glad that the sox get bay but sad to see manny go. best of luck to manny and moss. welcome to red sox nation jason bay!

oh, and is it posible that bay will bat 3rd and ortiz will bat 4th? if not, who will bat 4th behind ortiz?

So how's this work now? Can the Dodgers decline Manny's options AND offer arbitration in order to get the draft picks? I guess so based on Tim's post and the way everyone's talking.

Also, how's the waiver thing work. Take a guy like Huff, who's a pretty desirable part, but costs a lot... Can the Orioles pass him through waivers, then trade him and eat some of his salary in order to make it worth the (prospect) price?

It's spelled Pittsburgh and I'm not tryin to be an ass but someone will say something stupid like you can't spell. Anyway I think Hanson will turn out to be pretty good I just think people were expecting him to be lights out don't forget this is his first full year he has time to develop. Ellsbury's numbers aren't spectacular but nobody is saying he sucks

milehigh,

Read the update they removed the options and Manny will decline arbitration meaning you get 2 sandwich picks.

"Juan Pierre is almost as bad at playing baseball, as you are at talking about it."

The thing about Pierre is the Dodgers knew EXACTLY what they were getting when they signed him and they got exactly that. A speedster contact hitter with a weak arm. But we all know that Andruw Jones will continue to be part of the everyday lineup besides putting up numbers that will go down this season as a war crime. So let's face it, odds are Jones will still be an everyday player with Manny in the lineup and Pierre and Ethier, two players absolutely superior to Jones right now will get the shaft. Torre needs to get a pair of brass ones, bench Jones and make sure Ethier plays everyday.

Idk if anyone's picked up on this, but once adam's off the DL, PITs gonna have two laroches starting for them.

Adam and Andy.

(They're brothers)

Huff would most definatly clear waivers but the O's won't trade him.
